Daredevil Jon Bernthal IS Frank Castle / The Punisher! - Part 1

The best moment was the direct quoting from the Garth Ennis DD/Punisher fight:
"If you don't shoot you've got a death on your conscience. A death you could have prevented. If you do shoot, you're a killer."

"What kind of a choice is that?!"

"The one I make very time I pull the trigger."

SO perfect.

Also loved the prison fight scene (obviously) and the blood pooling up into the skull motif at the end.

Another favourite was just after he gave Karen "relationship advice" in the diner. I felt like that scene was when he really became The Punisher; he had one last human moment with Karen, and after that he pushed her away and fully embraced the darkness (and took it out on the hitman's face in brutal style). He didn't have the skull yet, but that for me was the moment when Frank Castle died and The Punisher completely took over.

All great moments. Lost my mind a bit at hearing Bernthal deliver Ennis' words. Gotta admit that as much as I think Cox is a near flawless Murdock and as much as I lover almost everything about the show, Bernthal really steals the whole thing for me.

I would add a few moments from the trial, like when he first enters the courtroom. The music and when he crosses in front of the flag. Felt like it could've come straight out of Ennis. And when he loses it at the end of the trial; "I am the Punisher!" Love it.

What I loved about Beranthal's Punisher was that FINALLY, FINALLY the Punisher is written with some damn personality. I've been saying for years that the reason why Punisher's comics don't sell well is because the writers refuse to write Frank with any personality, motivation or character arc. They just write him as a mindless, killing machine and while that may be cool to read for a couple os issues, no one is going to want to follow a character that has no character journey.

I always knew there was a way to write Frank in a way where he retains his dark, stoic nature but still give him a personality that you could sympathize with and root for. Beranthal's Punisher is the Punisher I've been waiting for. I would like to see him written more like this in the comics.

I'm curious to see, if he comes back in another season or (HOPEFULLY) gets his own series, how they wold keep that up. I think if they make things personal from time to time (adapt, say, Up is Down, Black is White) or by having him go up against truly heinous criminals (by adapting the likes of Slavers, maybe) we can keep that rawness.

I hope he gets his own series. Would only like him back in daredevil for one or two episodes at most, or maybe the defenders. Matt has his own adventures to do and so does frank. This is not arrow and flash. Their methods will clash too much and with 13 episode series they don't have the time to have filler episodes unless thry are to build for the future (as stick was in season 1) or tell of his past.

There was something off with the characterization. Or the casting. I love bernthal as an actor, but just thought it wAs average to good not great. Thought the voice was off, sort of small in build, and way too sympathetic.only scene I truly liked was his outburst in court. Way too much getting in his head. I was hoping to truly show more of the monster less the human. He was all hero outside of hooking guys in a freezer and not so much anti hero.

Agreed, I loved Jon's performance as Frank Castle. He was a scene stealer the entire season and I hope he gets his own solo.

Unless someone new contender comes along, I think he has a decent shot at an Emmy. I think Bernthal's performance stands up to the holdover nominees.

D'Onofrio's character didn't show up until the fourth episode, his role isn't as "flashy" as Bernthal's, and it's functionally similar to another nominee (Spacey). Bernthal's role just might be different and hard-hitting enough that it could bet the nod, barring any surprise new contenders.

Agree. They should have had the guy in prison be the last of the irish gang or bikers. It should have been franks idea to get caught and go to prison in order to get at him, then to escape. I understand why they changed it as they wanted kingpin to be in there and show how badass he is.

Don't really care about emmy's. As long as we get a dd season 3 and a punisher series they've done their job. Think they are both great.

i have without a doubt believe that this is Marvel's and Bernthal's pitch for a Punisher series.

Bernthal's done with that other tv series right? i worry about his availability. all the leads of the other Netflix series (Cox, Ritter, Colter) are pretty dedicated to their franchises and Finn isnt always on GOT, so he can make room for Iron Fist.

Pretty sure he showed up earlier than episode 4.
