9/10?? either you guys are REAL giving or you've never read the comics.

So here is my actual review which has no spoilers for either the book nor movie.

30 days the film is.....meh. Thats it. Its ok. Not terrible but it is no where near as good as both it could have and should have been. I was really excited for the film after reading the book because I could see how easily it could translate to the screen s oimagine my excitment when I heard they were actually making it!.

Now what the film seems to do is take a lot of the real good, inventive, great ideas (some of which lead into and are the reason for the next 2 books) and leave them in the comic. It got to the point where I was thinking "my god if they left THAT out, then there is no WAY they are going to actually end it the same". (luckly I was wrong and they end it pretty faithfully to the book)

What we also get is a movie that comes off not quite sure what it wants to be. Instead of being a great blend of gore and psychological (ie; excorsist) we get a film that tries to be either one or the other.
It also looks like it was shot by 2 different people which is a real shame as some of the stuff looks real beautiful while other stuff looks very middle of the road.

The vampires... ok they LOOK just like Templesmiths artwork which is really strange when you think about it but thats where it stops. They merge the 2 lead vampires from the book into one character and this means we lose motive and alot of explination (as well as the afermentioned set up for sequels) and instead of the vampires speaking english they speak.......KLINGON?!? WTF?!?

The film as a whole is enjoyable and its not terrible but it isnt going to blow your socks off either. It does itself a diservice by not being as faithful to the books and actually giving a great new twist to the genre (like the comic sucessfully did) and comes off as a bit ..average really. It gives you the feeling that this movie could just bleed into other horror films instead of standing on its own like it should.

I would rate it 3 out of 5.
Good review. Looks like I'm not gonna enjoy the movie as much as I'd like to. Lots of unnecessary changes. :csad:

this movie was awesomeness

didnt have to deal with the vampires saying ANY cheesy lines... they had awesome lines.
viually it was purely amazing.... havent seen gore scenes like that since george romeros movies..lol

Your kidding right? The vampires had nothing BUT cheesy lines.

Not only are they speaking klingon and we get to read subtitles but man it is some of the cheesiest s**t. You'd think David Goyer was writing the vampires dialogue from all the "deep" comments that MarloVencent (combo of the 2 leads in the comic) says throught the flick. Here is a paraphrased example of one line.....

"What is broken is broken." wtf? not cheesy eh?

And don't even get me started on the horrible shriek they use throught the movie....ugh...

very good film. it's kinda refreshing seeing a good vampire flick

i liked that line...

i was anticipating something horrible like " you are weak... i have no use for you"

lol they might as well have it's just as bad lol

Though I wasn't expecting a line like that just that he was going to get mad at Eben for hurting his vamp-woman...which was cheesy.

I thought it was cheesy how marlow INO and the female vamp were kind of together.

Did anyone else feel the timeline was a bit off as well? Im hearing a lot of people confused about it..they all seem to think the end is on day 27 and such.

I thought the timeline was a bit muddled as well.

no it was right...

the only thing that was off is how [spoilers] josh didnt turn into a vamp over night like everyone else... he last til morning

Just saw the movie and thought it was really good definately alot better than i thought it would be.
The line he said was something like this
"What can be broken, should be broken." which in my opinion is an awesome line.

I saw it yesterday, I thought it was a decent film.

The most brutal, unrelenting, sadistic vampire film I've ever seen.

I was shocked how visceral this was. I don't think any vampire film has ever done anywhere near as good of a job at making me despise and loathe the vampires and anxiously await seeing someone fight back against them and give them their much deserved come-uppance.

The snow plow vamp massacre and Hartnett punching the vampiric Hitler's brains out are beyond awesome.

I loved the isolated and hopeless atmosphere, the very unique and unconventional score, the cinematography, the performances were very good all around, even from Hartnett who I usually think gives wooden, phoned in performances;

I would've liked a little more of a part for Ben Foster, but he was great while he was there.

The movie felt like a Holocaust allegory, with the bloodthirsty monsters that mindlessly follow their leader on his sadistic quest of extermination with the frightened humans hiding out in small, boxed in areas as the carnage ensues.

The idea of vampires being responsible for many atrocities throughout time and passing them off as "accidents" so that people would continue to believe that they only exist in our nightmares was a very nice touch.

Slade's delivered big time again, I'm really looking forward to anything this guy does now.

When I first heard Foster had been cast I thought "Aw man he'll make an amzing Marlow!" then I saw the trailer and that he was playing the stranger and I was even more impressed.

Foster was one of the best things in the movie and he always gives a great performance. Someone recently compared him to Johnny Depp and I thought that that was a bit of a dumb comparrison. I think Foster is more akin to Gary Oldman.

He may be the best actor of his generation, he's definitely right up there.

Freaking Shia the mirror actor LeBeaof gets hailed as the future of Hollywood with a guy like Foster out there...pathetic.

Shia is awesome:o I had no idea Ben Foster was in this:huh: good character actor.

Shia is terrible, he doesn't even act, he just plays himself all the time. He cracks juvenile jokes and acts like the dorky kid with a crush on the crush on the hot girl down the street...he's a typical after school special cliche, and the way he "acts" in his films is precisely how he acts on every talk show appearance he ever makes. He plays himself plain and simple, which isn't acting.

Transformers and Disturbia are the exact same performance with the exact same relationship with the female lead.
Transformers and Disturbia are the worst films I've suffered through all year, and he certainly wasn't doing anything to elevate them.

Foster was Crowe's right hand man in Yuma, the villain in Hostage, Angel in X3, the guy with the piercings in The Punisher.

He has more talent in his pinky than an army of Shia LeBeaof's.
