Well the thing that I found most insulting (and if I was i nBen's postition I woulda snapped over) was when Alpha Dog came out and everyone was hailing Justin Timberlakes performance when Foster stole the show on it. I mean Foster was just....f'ing nuts!

I thought JT did a pretty good job and was surprised but still..Foster was really where it was at in that movie and how people couldn't see that....thats sad.

Shia is terrible, he doesn't even act, he just plays himself all the time. He cracks juvenile jokes and acts like the dorky kid with a crush on the crush on the hot girl down the street...he's a typical after school special cliche, and the way he "acts" in his films is precisely how he acts on every talk show appearance he ever makes. He plays himself plain and simple, which isn't acting.

Transformers and Disturbia are the exact same performance with the exact same relationship with the female lead.
Transformers and Disturbia are the worst films I've suffered through all year, and he certainly wasn't doing anything to elevate them.

Foster was Crowe's right hand man in Yuma, the villain in Hostage, Angel in X3, the guy with the piercings in The Punisher.

He has more talent in his pinky than an army of Shia LeBeaof's.

I disagree with you totally but you have the right to your opinion even stated as fact:yay: And i know who Foster is, i just didn't know he was in this and as i said, he's a good character actor.

I wasn't stating it as fact, I was just stating why I loathe him so much as a so-called actor.

The way it was put was more reminiscent of how on the hype ppl tend to structure their opinion as though they are stating "water is wet" style facts as opposed to a view, no big deal.

I wouldn't tell you that you're wrong for liking him, I'm certainly not shy about vehemently bashing someone that I feel is utterly talentless though.

Ive noticed, I tend to just not waste energy on someone i don't like in movies.

As for Foster, you think he will actually end up a marquee name ? I just don't see it.

For me I'm passionate about a film or a person, whether it be love or hate, I can go and on about why.
If I'm indifferent that's when my responses to them are very brief.

I think he could become like Oldman, someone that's famous but not massive type of fame like a Gibson/Cruise/Willis, but is very, very highly respected by people that love film, more so than alot of vastly more famous actors.

That's a really great assessment IMO, The Oldman comparison is a good one, I can't see him as a guy that opens movies and the regular cinema fan throws their ten bucks down for just b/c his name is on the poster, but as a respected character actor i see him doing well.

"What can be broken, should be broken." which in my opinion is an awesome line.

exactly... that line was awesome..

so was the "no god" line... and when he
steps on the fat guys head

Saw the movie yesterday. I thought it was very good. The vampires as brutal and cool as they were, and yet again another memorable Ben Foster appearance,or the gorgeous cinematography, those elements(though great) really didnt stand out. What really stood out for me was Josh Hartnett(Eben). Really didnt care for the guy in the past but he carried this movie and was a relateable character. Eben had to become the leader/father of a group, that shouldnt have stand a chance. I loved the whole element about protecting your loved ones even if you had to make hard decisions and to sacrifice your own life by doing it. Oh and its safe to say the Vampires are scary again. I couldnt take them seriously after Buffy. I'm not saying this is the greatest damn movie in the world. But it really is a guys movie and IMO, its a story about what it takes to be a man and a leader. Thumbs up for me!

I think the weird language and the fact that none of them spoke except for the leader was what added to the scare factor. The graphic novel, they speak english, and more of them speak instead of just acting like mindless monsters.

That, to me, was one of the things that made them a bit creepier in the book was just how cold and calculating they were. I mean look at when they first show up to the satelite station..or just how awesome and creepy a visual it would have been when Eben first sees them comign through his binoculers.

Than you get Marlow the young punk thinks he has done this great thing then when Vincente shows up and tells him "hey no your an idiot" then you get the power struggle. That stuff was awesome.

Well, Hartnett can be happy. Got the number one flick in America, and he's banging Rihanna every night. Damn you, Hartnett. :cmad:

Lol...

Hey I don't have a problem with him like a lot of people seem too.

Oh and something I just thoguht of about the vamps...

The scene with the little girl in the store was one of the creepest and flat out best scenes in the whole flick. Those like 3 mins were what we should have had for the whole movie. So imagine if we had cool vamps like that instead of what we got....meh ones.

I think they're better as mindless monsters, it fit the theme.

But mindless monsters wouldnt have a mind to put together such an intricate plan to attack a town in the middle of nowhere.

I think they're more comparable to a pack of wolves. Grouping together and decimating everything. That's what made them scary. The group-think. If you ran into one, chances are you ran into all of them. THAT'S what made this movie so freaky for me. Very good movie. Nothing I'd watch twice but it was a nice way to spend a sunday afternoon. Something I'd watch on Showtime at 3 in the morning.

Haha this movie was great.
It feels good to see vampires like these, and the story was great IMO.
I do hope we get an extended DVD, because I felt I could have used a bit more fleshing out (see more "Day XX" stuff, for example.
A hell of a movie though, I give it an 8.5

I agree. One of the things that scared me about them was how vicious and blood thirsty they were. This wasn't a vampire film where they were elegant, seductive, and trying to get their victims to lust for them.

No, these things just wanted to rip their victims to pieces and just destroy everything in sight. I definitely agree with the vicious animal statement.

Well you have to remember, people's opinions of singers who decide to act (at least nowadays, because singers-to-actors have been a fixture of Hollywood almost from day one) tend to be somewhat skeptical. So of course Timberlake was gonna be under a lot of scrutiny, 'cause he's the one who has to prove himself.

Well what shia has that not many actors in general have, especially one his age is screen presence, Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise they aren't the "best" actors per se, but they all have the ability to dominate the screen like no one else and Sha has that, so all he really has to do is hone his skills and he will easily join the ranks of the three i mentioned

I think foster is better, but not that much

The issue with Shia is that he plays likeable characters. He can play a cocky dude but still come off unsure of himself, which is what a lot of people like.

He has charm

and many actors are short on charm

Very true!

As for Stormyprecious's comments about Foster...........lol! I plan on seeing 30 Days of Night either tonight or tomorrow. From what I have seen of him he isn't that great of an actor himself. In 3:10 to Yuma I couldn't help but laugh when he was on the screen as well as a number of other people in the audience. I just kept seeing the nerdy guy with piercings in his lips from The Punisher.

I have yet to see his range, hopefully he has a drastic change in character in 30DoN. I think it's mainly his voice, sounds too high and wimpy. That's the main reason why I couldn't take him serious in Yuma. Angel in X3 wasn't much of a role to judge him on either.
