Judge Dredd Reboot!!

Does Judge Dredd even have a following anymore? Even if this reboot is good, my fear is that most people who aren't familiar with the comic will just figure that this is a sequel or remake of the crappy Stallone film.

I can't wait man Judge Dredd is badass!

"Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later"

Great Sci-Fi films??? Give it a rest... it's just another comicbook film. Obviously anything will be better than the Stallone crap but still... guess these guys are just out of material.

The production design of Stallone's 'Judge Dredd' was incredible. It was also heartbreaking that it was totally wasted on that turd of a movie. I'm interested to see where they go with this.

Rebellion and 2000 AD are proud to announce that Judge Dredd is coming to a cinema near you soon!

Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.

Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’

Great find Aeghast.

I think Ron Pearlman would be PERFECT for the role, it doesn't matter that he is getting on a bit, Dredd isn't exactly a youthful and handsome chap is he? And that picture of him in that 2000ad forum cements that opinion.

And as I said before, the only way to go is to make it the way they made Sin City and 300. Ultra violent rated-r/18, there should be no compromises when it comes to a comic adaption like this.

a) dredd v the dark judges

b) rated R

c) keep his helmet on ALL MOVIE

d) keep sly 'I AM DA LAW!!!' stallone the heck away from this movie

do that and you'll have a massive hit.

This is great news. When I first heard that Stallone was Dredd I was really hopefull and was eventually let down by the whole thing when I saw it. Please no comedy.

I think censorship is pretty much non-existant today which is a good thing for a film like this. Lets hope they choose a suitable director and a worthy actor to play Dredd. Even if it were not live-action like Beowulf, but really bloody violent that would be cool. That way would could base Dredds look on Clint Eastwood!

As I've stated in a number of Dredd threads over the years - it's a crime how 2000AD has been largely overlooked in terms of movie adaptions; A huge shame given their massiveb cinematic potential.

It's about bloody time that Dredd gets the movie he deserves; then hopefully, other characters like Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper will be given a chance to shine (I still irks me that the closest we've come to an actual Rogue Trooper movie is the dire Paul Anderson directed 'Soldier')

Okay.

But Judge Dredd is Judge Dredd. You can't humanize him. THis can be nothing more than an action celebration.

Agreed. Dredd can have action but can be a whole lot more.

Make it a violent satire on fascism and policing in general, just the way the original comics were.

Hell, the satire thing worked so well for Robocop (who JD had a major influence on)

Excellent news that we are getting another Dredd movie, used to love his and Rogue Troopers comics, hopefully Rogue Trooper follows this new Dredd movie. I agree with others on here they would be best doing it like Sin City/300 and stylise the action and violence.

Also, the person who suggested Neil Marshall to direct is a GENIUS!

i just hope they don't have a rob schneider type of sidekick this time .

"Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later"

Great Sci-Fi films???
28 Weeks Later was a great zombie flick but i don't think it was all that. Sunshine, on the other hand, i would consider a masterpiece and severely underrated.

Awesome news ...

There are hundreds of epic tales waiting to be told.

Everything will ride on the choice of actor to play Dredd ...... The helmet MUST stay on.

If this is done right, it could be superb, used to love the comics as a kid, hopefully we';; get to see Rogue Trooper somewere down the line also.

What so it should just be a soulless action fest? Thats some great logic.

I'm talking about the character, not so much about the message.

And the people would do the same they did with P:WZ. RoboCop was mentioned, but there is much more to RoboCop then to Judge Dredd. You cannot compare them. Deconstruction of Judge Dredd is the worst thing to do.

Yeah, that was the only downer for me in that movie. I remember hoping that he would get killed off somewhere before it ended.

No comic relief sidekick in the next one please... :whatever:

On the plus side, the dvd of Stallone's Dredd includes an extra where Schneider falls down a flight of steps and lands on his face.

That always raises a chuckle.

Inspired choice for Dredd.

Perlman's got the perfect attributes (character acting ability, voice etc) for a badass Dredd - plus, it's one of the few non-makeup roles were Perlman's jaw can actually be considered as an asset :woot:

i still don't know how we went from the badass baseball bat swinging fergie king of the big smelly to rob schneider

but basiclly there are 3 words that can make sure i'm there to see this film
