Back in the 8 bit days of gaming (Think yie ar kung Fu, centipede, etc) I need 3 meaningful letters to enter for high scores so DAK was born.

not at all mate - have seen it since the way to vote changed - not every contest but all too often you get people going round getting other members who have never posted in the fan art forum to vote for their piece regardless of quality, you see alot of pieces do well when there is quite often 2 or 3 miles better - I know its not againt the rules but for a friendly fan art contest it kinda just ruins it a bit

thats why I dont go out of my way to enter - If im working on something or already have somethign that qualifys ill enter it

Im sorry you feel that way.

I haven't missed a contest in about 2-3 years and I can't remember when a piece won that didn't merit the win.

If you know of a month please give me an example.

"fiddle the voting" - ? - Voting is open to ALL members of the Hype boards regardless of whether they are frequent posters to Fan Art - generally voting turn out is sparse at best - winners are often determined by a margin of 1-2 votes!

NOT entering a contest because you feel the voting is somehow fixed is a poor excuse - I've been running these contest for too many years to count, and we have gone thru several different ways of voting, NEVER has there been any fiddling or fixing...

Just add a bit more, from my observations over the years...

Winners are NOT always the BEST piece...
Several factors come into play - sometimes a winner of lesser technical quality will win over a superior piece.

I've noticed that there are occasions where an artist continuously enters top-quality pieces month after month - and it becomes almost expected that that artist will do just that - and at times this can get 'boring' - it does NOT reflect on the piece in any way or the atists talents - but when an artist of "lesser" talent shows up with a bright and promising piece it gets noticed - sort of the UNDER-DOG factor!

I'm NOT saying vote for the under-dog - I always ask that you vote for your favorite piece, no matter if it's executed good or bad...
I sometimes appreciate the effort over the technical quality!

It's all subject to everyone's own personal taste as well!

Bottom line, you will never know unless you enter - not entering because you think your piece doesn't live up to a certain standard - is foolish!

I've always encouraged artists to enter NO MATTER WHAT - the whole point of these contests has been to get you drawing - period!

I think what he means is that Poster061284 will get all his friends and even pm random people to vote for his piece so that he wins, as opposed to just letting the chips fall where they may.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone at sometime has tried to rig a contest in favor of their piece. I don't put anything past people now a days.

IMO- What makes these things fun is seeing the different interpretations of the subject. I think getting too caught up in the voting part of it takes away from that.
I think its much more enjoyable if you just contribute, comment, and critique (respectfully of course) and not worry about the rest.

i dont know of anyone ever pushing for votes. i've never been approached to vote for someone, and i've always voted for the one I thought was my favorite

i have put the link to the voting contests in the community before to encourage people to come check out the contests.
