Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Saw it today and have to say it was quite enjoyable, 7/10

You know Sony is going to take this success and screw it up by trying to do a Jumanji Cinematic Universe.

No worries,in 2019, you can skip Episode 9 and watch Jumanji 2 instead, when they do battle again in December of that year.

if that is indeed the case I will see the Jumanji sequel I have no interest in the saga films anymore

If this holds for another week, it'll beat Deadpool domestically.
And it's made more than Thor Raganarok worldwide.

Its will make more than all the Comic book movies of 2017. All hail SONY and Tom Rothman lol...

Not bad for a movie no one asked for. Its why films like Venom and the Men in Black Spin-off is in development. SONY will keep on making these film, some of them will eventually breakout.

I was able to finally see it yesterday and was surprised how good it was, even with the longevity hype behind it. I don't know where a sequel would go but if they can bring that kind of fun to it then I'll go see it.

This is also by far the best ever video game movie to grace the screens. Ironic since the video game it is based on is solely from within the movie's "reality" setting and not even a real game.

I never saw the original so I really kind of went in cold. It was actually pretty funny and my son wants to see it again. I was surprised that I got a little teary eyed near the end, don't tell anybody. :/

It was... fine. I have a lot of affection for the original and some things just don't add up.

The guy has been there for 20 years but only three months have passed? Then how come Alan Parrish was in the jungle for the same amount of time that he was gone in the real world?
Where were all the big spiders, giant mosquitoes, the funny monkeys, the ever-growing plant from the first film? Those were all from the same jungle but there was no sign of them. And the animals were all normal, nothing scary about them.

I like that there's a sequel, I hope they can expand some of the ideas and explore the jungle a bit more. I have no idea what they can do from now on though.

They said that apparently the game will evolve into an app that multiple people will be downloading. It's a theory but I've heard it in more than one spot.

Mmm. Ok, that might work. I miss the concept of the game bleeding itself into the real world. Maybe they can do the opposite? I don't know, I miss the "oh no, what's gonna happen next?!" from the original.

This was a solid, fun movie. Very funny and I would say easily better than the original Jumanji.

Has now passed Spiderman: Homecoming both domestically & worldwide.

Still has a shot at $900m

Why are you saying that 'it has a shot'?? It's a done deal. It has been like that for the past 3 weeks. :D :D

Here's my reply to one of your posts on 30th Jan http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?p=36277035&highlight=jumanji#post36277035

Night at the Museum legs (3.55 x 6th weekend) from here on out will get Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle to 396.37 million. Let's assume it'll have a mini collapse (BP takes steam off J2's domestic BO run next month) and achieve a 3.2 multiplier after the 6th weekend. Then it'll finish with 390.5 million.

OS figure is a bit harder to predict but 1.5 times the most recent weekend (China will cease to make a significant contribution) doesn't seem a long shot. So (1.5x17.7) gets the OS total up-to [484+26.5]=510.5 million.

World-wide total becomes [390.5+510.5]=901 million. It still hasn't opened in Japan yet so Jumanji 2 should easily clear 900 million when all is said and done. The movie will release in Japan on April 6th so it's going to be a really long wait.

BTDubz, Jumanji 2 is Sony's 5th biggest movie of all time atm.

SM:H, Spectre & SM-3 are toast as Jumanji 2 is going past 900 million. So #2 (behind Skyfall) in Sony's all time list is guaranteed (domestic and WW). On the international front, Jumanji 2 is likely going to finish at #6 (Skyfall, Spectre, SM-3, SM:H & Da Vinci Code).

Ah right, didn't realise it hadn't opened there yet!

Thanks for clearing it up

I'll post my thoughts on the updated BO prospects later this night but I think at the rate Jumanji 2 is moving, it won't need Japan to push the world-wide cume over 900 million. It's not gonna be a close call without Japan. Jumanji 2 be well past 900 million by the time it opens in Japan.

Lol at the 10% drop this weekend. An absolutely redonkulous box office run for this flick. Yeah, 900 is way locked. I’d say a billion is out but I wouldn’t put anything past this movie now.

This movie's legs are silly.

Jumanji 2 actually dropped 8.3% this weekend. It's also the 6th biggest 8th weekend of all time. This is absolutely insane. F**king ridiculous.

The movie's WW total is at 883.44 million atm. After accumulating 8.2 million in the OS weekend, the movie should be able to hit the 900 million mark just with the OS gross that it has left in the tank. Add the rest of the domestic and Japan to the OS cume and Jumanji 2 could finish with 940 million+.

I loved this movie! The crew was great especially Jack Black and I liked the “tribute” to Robin Willams’ character. Not at all sure about a sequel though, but when this type of film makes as much as it has it’s a no brainer.

There goes the $900 million marker.:tmm:
