Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Normally I'm against remakes, but this can't possibly be worse than the first one.

So what's worse?

The fact that they are making movies based on board games (Battleship) or that they are actually remaking a movie about a board game?

I enjoyed the first one when I was younger so I wouldn't be against the idea but if they are remaking the first one with the same characters and same basic plot outline then that would seem a bit stupid...

It would be cool if the majority of the movie took place inside the game... they could do where the game is passed down through a family (but never played) until some kids in the present find it and remember a family legend about a distant relative who was sucked inside. So they play it and get sucked inside too and they manage to rescue the relative..

I guess though, if they are probably hoping for a franchise they would probably wanna save an 'inside the game' film for a sequel..

Zach Helm Writing the Jumanji Remake

Heat Vision is reporting that Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium) has been hired by Columbia Pictures to write the studio's Jumanji remake.

Directed by Joe Johnston, the 1995 family adventure starred Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, Jonathan Hyde, Bebe Neuwirth, David Alan Grier and Patricia Clarkson. The film was based on the 1981 children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. In it, a magical board game causes jungle plants and creatures to invade a quiet American suburb.

Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler are producing the reimagining of the story. Ted Field and Mike Weber are executive producing.

a jumanji remake, they are really crazy.
jumanji is a really cool film who cant be topped.only the cgi will be better ofcourse.

Jumanji was great but I'm kinda excited for a new version. Like some others have mentioned, it would be cool if they went inside of the board game into the jungle.

Wasn't that what they did with the old cartoon?

I barely remember it outside of the characters being in the Jungle.

But...it wasn't even that great to begin with....

If it's a sequel I'm all for it, BUT if it's a remake, then I believe it's too early for this movie. I'd also say Hollywood is devoid of new ideas for movies.

if their just trying to remake the other movie, I wouldn't be all that interested, but, if are just making a new movie also based on the book, I might give it a look... if that makes sense

Eh they've remade movies in less than 20 years, which by the time this gets made, it will be.

Still I just don't see the reason for remaking this.

By virtue of being mentioned alongside the Dark Tower, none of these movies are happening.

I hope it's a sequel instead. Remember those people find the game on the beach at the end of the first one?

Great. A remake of a once good movie with a beloved dead actor.

I'm so pumped.

To be fair, Jumanji was originally a book. It only became a board game after the film came out.

So don't watch it then. Easiest solution in the world.

I'm just remarking how depressing the thought is when I thought about it, not suggesting I would or wouldn't watch it.

The cartoon was actually a lot of fun, from what I recall. It was Robin Williams' jungle fever character and the two kids trapped in the jungle.

There goes your sequel right there.

The premise is basically great. They can do a lot of stuff, I just think the original still works fine. I wouldn't mind a sequel instead of a remake.
