Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Part 1

I honestly don't think Lost World is as bad as people make it out to be. I genuinely love that movie.

Holy cow, I'm not alone.

The Lost World has good parts and some pretty dumb parts.

Malcolm's daughter is annoying, Sarah is kind of annoying (she goes on an obnoxious tirade about not so much as bending a blade of grass right after petting a baby Stegasaurus and almost getting herself killed, and she's supposedly this Dian Fossey-esque wildlife expert but is clueless enough to leave a bloody shirt hanging up in the air?), Nick is basically actively getting people killed but is viewed as a good guy, etc.

I liked Ebert's comment that Pete Postlethwaite is the only person in the movie who really seems to have conviction that he's actually on an island with dinosaurs.

I hope it doesn't take the whole movie for dinosaurs to get loose off the island.

They’ve already said if I recall the whole volcano and them being taken off the island happens in the first 15-30 mins of the film.

I also love TLW. Pretty much my only problem with it is Kelly. Very annoying and I really didn’t need to see her do gymnastics to kill a Raptor.

All true, but I watched the Lost World and 98 Godzilla at such a young age that they've basically been cemented in my mind as awesome movies when I know they aren't lol.

That said - the Jurassic Park series is basically the one franchise I will give a forever pass to as long as they're good enough. Did I like Jurassic World? It completely slid off my brain after I watched it....but dinosaurs. Am I excited about this new one? The premise doesn't really grab me and I don't particularly care for any of these characters outside of Ian Malcolm..... but dinosaurs, so I will be there opening day.

The first one will forever remain as one of my all-time favorite films, but the rest is just garnish.

Could be a whole montage of a lot of the Dinosaurs out in the real world towards the end for sure.
They'd still be endangered though, surely? Even if each and every Dino on that island is rescued, they'd still be in the minority to most other animals around the globe.

I can't quite imagine a herd of Stegosaurus wandering around Africa though, or a couple of Diplodocus walking around Texas. Surely they'd be hunted as per the Rhinos and Elephants of today? Rexy would certainly change the food chain however, and (I guess) it would (or could?) be interesting to see a Lion (or four) try to take down a Triceratops.

Well from the quick clip of the Rex and the Lion there it seems you can see behind the Rex a fence/barrier it has broken through. Perhaps a zoo or wildlife preserve.

It also depends where on the mainland this Mansion it that they’re having the auction of the animals

Yeah, I gotta say I hated The Lost World :o

Awful movie.

is this your king?

Yeah, there's no real "world ending" scenario here unless they end up showing that there's been at least several hundred indoraptors already bred and running around. This pseudoscientific "chaos theory" that dinosaurs will take over the world is just a bunch of doom-and-gloom. That's not to say that letting an adult T. rex loose would be a great idea, especially in an urban area, but these are ultimately just a few animals that could be gunned down by some dudette with a high-powered assault rifle. The only creature that's really a potential problem is the oversized mosasaur; but even then you could either find some way to kill it (it's like we don't have the means) or you just let it live out its life and let it die.

I'm just having a hard time getting past how much this looks like a Lost World remake/re-imagining, just with more mainland action.

Well I was talking about the latest spot, but they all look bad in my opinion.

I completely disagree, but I am not going to argue about your opinion. I think it looks fantastic, far better that Jurassic World did.

Im looking forward to this myself. You can never go wrong with giant lizards eating people. :p

Yeah, The Lost World isn't all that bad. Love all the INGEN & hunter stuff.

But yeah, the "T-Rex on the mainland" stuff here does feel like an unwanted re-tread. Not loving a lot of the ideas of this film, but it all just depends on the execution. Bayona gives me a lot of faith, way better than Trevorrow.

Me, too! I have enjoyed all of the Jurassic movies.

I have to say I'm having a really hard time mustering up any excitement for this one, despite the fact that I like Bayona's work.

I miss the gritty, pulp-y feel of the old films. These new ones are far too glossy, clean, and textureless for my tastes.
