I can't remember Lost World well enough but I'm pretty sure the general public knew of the original incident, and if they didn't, the rex escaping in LA a few years later would have probably brought up the original incident and deaths that occurred.

The public does know by JP3. Everyone at Grant's event wanted to ask him about JP or San Diego. I think Hammond came clean at the end of Lost Word when he announced that Site B would be a preserve.

How the heck did this film make that much amount? It was awful. I guess they're starting to head into the direction of the TF franchise where no matter how bad the film is, it'll make bank.

Same could be said for any big film you don't like.
For example a certain other may release this year scoring in the 70's on RT.
How indeed.

What a Box Office! WHAT A LOVELY BOX OFFICE!!!

See if you can top that, Marvel and WB

You said it before I did.

It's a gift I think.
Still, people always do this thing of questioning how something can have fans only to then fall into the same thing in their own fandom. Some fans have it harder than others unfortunately but it's always safe to assume there is always a crowd looking down on what you love.

I haven't been perfect on the subject but I'm trying to get better. At the end of the day you are correct, there is always someone looking down on what you like and people (myself included) would do well to remember that before they get too snarky.

In particular at this point I'm sick of the cult of Marvel elitism the most out of any sort. Furious 7, Jurassic World and hell Transformers don't deserve to make over a billion but for some unknown reason Avengers does. Because fanboy land has ordained that Marvel's big dumb action movies are the right kind of big dumb action movies.

The True Box Office Legacy of The Avengers is that other movies will follow in its footsteps and eventually surpass it.

This was ok-pretty good movie

THe dinosaurs were cool of course.
I liked the little nods to previous films. I think I spotted a Jeff Goldblum easter egg/cameo on a book in the control center.
The whole skeleton of screenplay was good. It was a good concept.
The performances were nice (I was really worried about Pratt going into this) and they balanced the tone well

However
I thought it took way too long to get into gear. The pacing and editing were pretty bad in the beginning. And then there were times in the middle where I thought it slowed down (my main complaint)
The whole romance between Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard's character was f***ing terrible.
The whole Raptor [BLACKOUT]turning evil just to be good again in 15 mins/at the end[/BLACKOUT] was pointless to me
It just felt kinda generic and dated to me. Like a throwback to the 90s movie and not in a good way
Those were the main things that made me take points off.

Just little things that didn't affect how I'd rate this: I thought Omar Sy was wasted didn't have crap to do. Waste of a good actor.
Also did anyone notice how much people cried in this? Weird observation but I felt like everyone cried too much especially Judy Greer's character

If I had to put a number on this. 7/10

It was good but I cant see being in the mood to watch this again. I wouldnt even buy the blu ray other than the fact that Im a completionist

Then there's Infinity War 1 and 2 that may attempt to one up JW. If not that then SW Ep. 7 though it is a long shot

Nostalgia rules the day, Star Wars is going to be a ****ing monster at the box office. No doubt about that.

Just saw the movie and I really enjoyed it. Sure, it's not perfect but to be honest I enjoyed it more than fast 7 and AoU. The film did a great job in entertaining me especially as we see Dinos all the time on lesser spectacle mediums and it helped I didn't follow the production or watch any promotions materials other than the trailers. It's a very good movie and I'm both happy and surprised at how well it's doing at tge BO.

Certainly.
But JW has shown us the potential of Non Disney/Marvel movies to do the same or better.

Furious 7 showed us that first. Disney doesn't have a monopoly on big box office numbers anymore.

That was my first thought upon seeing the JW numbers this morning.
Once again,
Star Wars is going to rule universe.

I personally like seeing MCU's success because I have been emotionally involved with those characters my whole life.

It is surreal to go see a new Jurassic Park in the theaters; I can recall seeing the original as a child, and have the movie be a huge success. It hits all the right nostalgia notes, which undoubtedly is a factor in it's performance this weekend. It's a standard blockbuster that is made very well, it suffers from the usual problems people can pick apart to death if they want, but none of that bothered me walking out of the theater. It was a fun ride, and bare minimum that is all a Jurassic film has to deliver. Do that exceptionally well, and you will get an exceptionally good return. I mean, the idea of genetically altered In-gen dinosaurs was brought to us by the Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect toy line.

My worry now is they will want a Jurassic film to rake it in every other year and run it into the ground, not leaving well enough alone.

But then Disney never did have a monopoly because their one big movie (Avengers) is behind both Avatar and Titanic, both of which were done by 20th Century Fox. Plus they only have 4 of the top 10 highest-grossing films.

I cannot get enough of Giacchino's score. Simply beautiful.

Really proud of what this film has accomplished. Half a billion in one weekend? Epic. Congrats to the cast and crew!

My post was mainly addressing their short term success over the last 3 years, not necessarily overall performance across time. Besides I personally think having 3 films in the top 10 is a lot for one franchise anyway.

And I've officially seen this movie 5 times so far, 3 in IMAX and 2 in 2D, what an absurdly fun movie.

I got back from seeing this not too long ago. I really enjoyed it I thought it was a good film. Obviously not perfect and some things were a bit silly imo but I enjoyed it none the less.

7/10

So much interest and hype and cash for such a blah product.
