It was a carnosaur (I think) in the second book, not a raptor, but yeah, most definitely a nod.

It was indeed. Heck the I. Rex actually looked somewhat like a Carnotaurus. It even had the horns.

Is anyone else in a big JP mood after seeing this movie?

My whole family is at the moment. I went and bought the 1st three movies at BestBuy today. Each movie (Bluray +digital copy) is only $10 and comes with movie ticket cash. My wife plans on taking the kids to see it again with the free tickets. :)

Kane's post with the big baddy dinos from each respective movie is interesting from a meta standpoint in the film. Wow enough.

I thought it was great. 2nd best of the series...

The 3rd act was absolutely EPIC. Enjoyed every second of it.

This movie seemed like Spielberg could have been directing it himself. Trev had the aesthetic down! Genuine scares and characters. Perfect addition to the franchise really, without feeling repetitive like III did at times.

I guess I should get the JP trilogy on blu-ray as well.

Yes, but in the 1st book I believe there was also a Raptor that Grant / Ellie come across that could change color / camouflage itself, lol.

got my JP/LW hardback from BN earlier today been reading that. I saw JW 3D today by myself gonna see it with some friends tomorrow but in 2D.

This was ok. 2nd best JP movie for sure. Loved the dinos fight at the end. Got teary when the velociraptors were getting killed by the I-Rex protecting Owen. Loved when actual people were getting killed. Liked the control room guy and gal.

BUT:
-they didn't use the JP music effectively. Instead of it playing when the boys are in the train and showing the park buildings, why not start playing it when it pans to the dinosaurs to really the tug at the nostalgia heartstrings?

-the parents getting divorced was pointless and unnecessary.

-the boys in the beginning were annoying, if only one or both died, but it's a family movie.

-first scene of Claire and Owen could've been better written and was a bit cliche and sexist.

I got that some hardcover last weekend. It is pure :hrt:

Just noticed another similarity to the original, the kids parents in JW and JP are going through divorce.

If I was seven years old (the age I was when Jurassic Park came out) when I saw this, I'm pretty sure I probably would have loved it. Unfortunately, I'm almost thirty and I've seen one of, if not my most favorite movie Jurassic Park dozens of times, and I've seen sequels and imitators come and go. None of which were able to fully capture the magic of the original. That would include Jurassic World.

The writing left a lot to be desired, and many scenes felt way too familiar. Having said that, I did enjoy it overall. It was way better than Jurassic Park III, and I would rank it just below The Lost World, which is a movie I like and feel is somewhat underrated.

And I hope Jurassic World beats The Avengers for biggest opening weekend.

They did make the i-Rex something to fear by being such an effective, unstoppable killing machine. But I also felt sympathy for it too, strangely. How Owen described it being in isolation its whole life, seeing everything for the first time. Not to mention the fact it was engineered to be a perfect predator. It's like The Ghost In The Darkness, where the lions go on a killing spree.

And by it attacking and killing the other dinosaurs it really hit our hearts. Dinosaurs usually attack other dinosaurs, but this was different. This was killing for the sake of killing. It made us appreciate and side with the 'normal' dinosaurs, which we all know and love. They were on the back foot, and they needed our support.

You know, in a way there are similarities with the i-Rex and the raptors from the first film. Raised in isolation, no imprinting at birth, fed by a machine. Just goes to show why there's such a big difference between the raptor pack in JP and the raptor pack in JW.

Just saw the movie and I really enjoyed it, I had some doubts but the movie ended up being better then I expected. The characters were not the best but they could of been worse, besides the quality of the dinosaurs and action is what you really go by anyway.

Did not care for the T-Rex breaking the Spinosarus skeleton. I saw it as unnessary fan-service to everyone who complained about a certain scene in JP3. It doesn't really matter though because that was just a skeleton, the real deal already settled that fight.

The Lego game is a lot of fun! I'm up to the sick Trike from the first film :word:

I agree. The Lost World is crapped upon by everyone, but I have fond memories of it. I won't deny that it's one of Spielbergs weakest movies, but I think there were some good things in there.

Meh I think Mad Max is extremely overrated. I knew nothing about Mad Max or the world/ lore when I saw it and the movie didn't make me a fan. The fact that it's praised as some masterpiece is beyond me. I rate it like a 7/10 and that being generous. Definitely preferred Jurassic World.

Agree. Mad Max is way overrated just like how all the Nolan fanboys were gushing all over Interstellar last year. Sorry for the rant. Back to the JW discussion!

I still love TLW, and I love the San Diego stuff too. It definitely now though has fallen to third in my line of favorites for this franchise.

and I thank you for bringing it to my attention, I have not read either JP books in like over 10 years wow.

I haven't re-read the novels in a long time. And now with the Barnes special hardcover edition I am so excited to read them again.

I've been in a JP mood for weeks, because they're playing each movie on TV... twice. TLW's on for the second time tonight. And I've been reading the novel for the first time since Monday night, about 150 pages in. And since JW I haven't been able to get the theme music out of my head. :D

Just got back from a late-night showing (because every earlier one not in 3D was sold out). It started off a little "meh", because the people are, let's face it, two-dimensional and pointless. But it got progressively more fun. The sense of total wonder that the first film had so well wasn't really there, because, let's face it, the first one came out two decades ago and there have been two other sequels in the meantime, but they were FUN. The pterosaur attack was genuinely tense, the T-Rex wasn't overused, and the easter eggs to the original were amusing (anyone catch somebody reading a book written by Ian Malcolm?).

Things I didn't love:
-The kids. They never stopped being annoying/overly precocious.
--The random "Omg our parents are gonna get divorced." Mentioned and cried over once, randomly, never brought up again. Like, this same sort of plot hole is one of the most mocked things in "The Room". There is something in this movie you can compare to "The Room". Think about that.
-Without going into detail to avoid spoilers, the Mososaur. I knew what role it would play pretty much the first time it appeared. It was Chekhov's gun.
--Actually, "Chekhov's Dinosaur" might be more appropriate, and that does sound kind of badass.

One last thing, and I'll put tags on it, but I just need to exclaim about it somewhere:
The final fight with the Indominus. How fun was that? Seriously, a T. Rex/ Velociraptor TEAM-UP. Yes, it was blatant fan service, and no, I don't care.
