I don't have some deep attachment to JW but I am getting a kick out of how it's success is annoying a certain kind of fanboy.

Some were expecting it to fail, basically. And when it didn't you have to justify with "frontloaded", "viewers are morons" type diatribes.

It was dumb fun, but damn it all if I didn't have a good time. But then I'm a 90's kid, so I'm probably wearing rose-tinted glasses.

D'Onofrio's character was frustratingly stupid, as was that whole subplot. If the next installment involves [blackout]raptors being used in warzones[/blackout], I might have to check myself out.

I also didn't like how [blackout]the T-Rex just kinda laid down and accepted death before Blue came in for the rescue[/blackout], but I am an admittedly biased Rex fan. It was great to see the old girl again.

I liked the idea that the entire premise behind the I-Rex was that audiences were bored with dinosaurs and the park needed something new and shiny to rejuvenate their interest. It kinda speaks for today's world of excess. Sadly, it felt like this theme was dropped once the I-Rex got lose. Would've liked to see it expanded upon. Hell, they could have used this as a reason to feature feathered dinosaurs wandering around the restricted regions of the park. Management tried to make "realistic dinosaurs" as a way of creating new interest in the park, but customers were only interested in the big, scaly monsters - simply because they look cooler. The deeper Owen and company went into the island, the weirder and more prehistoric things became - in contrast to the flashy and commercial aspect of the park itself.

After hearing some reviews here, this seems like a wait on DVD/Netflix type of film.

I disagree.
This is a great movie to see with a big crowd.
Everybody gets into it, great fun.

Every year there are the decade plus old reboots.
Almost all are dragged though the mud(deep in the ****) by the geek/blog community before the fact on principle.
Except mad max, Miller being attached gave that one a pass from the outset.
However, every year this happens and there is always at least one that not only succeeds but really get's it's franchise going again.

Apes was a recent example of the succeeding, First Class even, The Verhoveon ones the opposite.
I fear the worst for the rest of this years reboots seeing as the quota has seemingly been filled. That is, both StarWars and T5...

If neither happens they find themselves in the Godzilla indifference zone.

That was like the predator also yes! And loved those nods to JP too.

The way the i-Rex went after the Gyrosphere was such a neat parallel with the way the T-Rex systematically went after the SUV in JP, moving it around to get the best angle to attack, and how it almost fell on the kids as they slipped out.

The film did a lovely job opf balancing the reverence for scenes in the first film with takes that still felt fresh. As you said the scene where Owen and Claire comfort the dying Brachiosaurus was very much a sister scene to the scene where Alan feels the Triceratops breathe while Ellie tries to see why shew is sick.

Love these Hunter.
That visitor center sequence gave me nostalgia chills, and then they found the night-vision goggles and the gas powered jeeps! :awesome:

I cannot get enough of Giacchino's score. Simply beautiful.

I am currently listening to it, I must be in double figures for listens since I came back from seeing the film on Friday lol.

Im sorry but whoever expected this to fail is...well I cant use that word.

I tried to stay out of this thread in order to not get spoiled, but really? There were people who thought this would fail.

Cmon son. Getouttaherewiththat

I disagree. I think it's something that you should see in theaters. At least at a matinee price. I saw it for $6.50 and I felt I got my money's owrth. And even though Im not crazy about it it's worth seeing in theaters for a cheaper price

How the heck did this film make that much amount? It was awful. I guess they're starting to head into the direction of the TF franchise where no matter how bad the film is, it'll make bank.

It's a monster movie and a pretty good one at that. There haven't been many good movies in the genre lately (at least not with this scale). The last ones I remember are Godzilla and Pacific Rim, both on Jurassic World's level.

Holy **** that opening weekend is freaking amazing. With actuals it might break the opening weekend record.

I'm still shocked JW made over twice than expected. People are responding to it like the first "Avengers" three years ago, it just keeps getting bigger.

I wonder if it'll break the 2nd weekend record too, or be a close second.

Wow! I am pleasantly surprised by how well this movie is doing!

Sure it's an imperfect product and kind of a disappointment after 14 years of waiting, but I haven't seen a movie this ridiculously fun since The Avengers.

But I don't understand, you guys say the characters are bland and/or cartoonish and the plot is thin. Plus, annoying kids and cheesy dialogue. The only thing I have seen from the reviews here is the action sequences, score, visuals, and the climax are the only things that are good about the film. So I'm not sure I would pay theater prices just to see dinosaurs fight and a glimpse of nostalgia.

I dont think I said any of the bolded.

And good action scenes, a powerful score, and good SFX are very good reasons to see a movie in theaters rather then at home. In fact, that's why I mostly go to the movies.
To me I'd rather see a movie in theaters where I can hear the sounds louder, get to see the visuals bigger and clearer, then going to watch a small personal drama where I can watch on DVD and get the same experience as a theater.

And that's not a knock at personal small dramas at all. I just dont mind seeing them at home rather than the theater

This is worth the $6.50 price I paid

I'm generalizing there. Not specifically you. Now if Chris Pratt gets naked, or at least shirtless then my interest may go up. :hmm

This is LOL worthy haha

Was listening to the score today. I really need to download it though so I can listen non stop haha. So good man!

Although I was excited for this movie many months ago, I will definitely be waiting for the home video release. Too skeptical at this point.

The characters are simple, but effective. The main stars are definitely the dinos, though, you could even argue some do have true characterization.

Aren't action sequences, score and visuals enhanced by a theater environment? I didn't love the movie but it's definitely intended for the big screen.

I just saw it a second time. I actually enjoyed it more on my second viewing knowing what I was in for in terms of how annoying the kids are in the first half.

It'll make a lot next weekend too, but unlike Avengers, JW has a Pixar movie to contend with. A well-reviewed Pixar film, at that.
