I loved POTC 1&2...but 3 was terrible. CotBP is the best of the series, imo.
Agreed, i know i gave 3 a 9 (though i think it wont hold up well to repeat viewings) but the 1st movie is by far away the best in the trilogy.
Agreed. CotBP was a great movie, and I thought DMC was very entertaining (I didn't mind the cliffhanger thing). AWE just annoyed me for many reasons, especially with the sloppy writing. The first two movies were made sense and worked out fine, while AWE I felt was a jumbled mess with lots of bad writing.

Looking back i think the fantastic final battle in AWE was a big influence on the score i gave the whole movie, i do think my rating will lower on repeat viewings.
Agreed. However I still enjoyed it, specifically for the climax. I thought it was one of the best final battles on screen in awhile.
Pirates 3 is getting praise because it had a lot of sfx and people love drooling at either Knightley or Depp and Bloom.
The movie was just poorly written, put together and told. The plot made little sense, there were enough plot holes to drive an army of semis through and worst of all nothing was concluded ina satisfying manner. It was either rushed (Norrington, Elizabeth's father, etc.), handeled in a limp, lazy and boring manner (the Pirate Brethern and EITC Navy doing NOTHING in the final battle, the Kraken dying off screen with no more appearences and Calypso turning into a giant and then a giant SFX who did nothing) or just was plain ignored (Jack's history with the EITC)? And the conclusion to the characters was just a pathetic attempt at being deep, but came off contrived and annoying.
I really hated that movie.

Agreed. I expected so much more outta AWE.
They lost me the minute they got to the multiple Jacks sequence at World's End which in actuality, didn't really seem that bad and easily escapable...
Personally,I liked the first "Pirates," but hated the second. The third was decent. Overall,I agree with some when they say this series is overrated. These films are kind of a one character series. If not for Johnny Depp's Captain Sparrow, this series probably wouldn't even be worth most people's time.
I watched all three Spidey movies on Blu-ray this week, and I have to say that I did find 3 to be much better than I remembered it being in the theater. It's still overstuffed, but the things that work-especially the Peter/MJ/Harry stuff-is good, and does end the trilogy in a satisfactory way. A solid three star flick.
The problem with Part IIIs is that they often have to be the climactic third act of the series, so it is just one long finale. Return of the Jedi is, especially in the last hour, precisely that. Thing is, Lucas does at least know how to execute a thrilling climax. Few would argue RotJ's final battle is a worthy end to the saga.
Movies like Pirates 3 and XIII are seriously lacking in this regard.
Agreed, ROTJ's last hour is just a non-stop and thoroughly enjoyable rollercoaster ride, and thats why i find it to be one of my favourite Star Wars movies.
I didnt think P3 lacked in the final battle though, i thought that sequence was visually stunning and quite exciting in the cinema, i may feel different when i watch it again on DVD tomorrow, but i did find its climax thrilling.
X3 was just poor from start to finish so we wont even mention that.
I can agree with thatThe climax to ROTJ is my favorite part of the whole trilogy, and ROTJ is the best movie of the whole series IMO.
.Difference I see with AWE and ROTJ is that ROTJ had not good, but GREAT storytelling behind the climax of the movie while AWE had poor storytelling, which I feel cheapened the final battle.
Watching AWE again on DVD for the first time today, i still have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it, sure, some things we should have found out were missing and the way some characters ended their arc's was dissapointing (IMO Jack should have ended up with the Pearl and Barbossa become the Captain of The Flying Dutchman, or vice versa would have been fine also.
I still think ROTJ is a better movie than AWE, but between Spiderman 3 and POTC3 i dont think there is much between them in terms of quality and enjoyment.
In fact for me the trilogies are about equal overall.
I thought too much was rushed/not developed and things (like Calypso) went nowhere. Some funny scenes, but overall very weakly written.
Your avy does remind me that I need to see Beowulf though.
