It's not an issue of could or should. WB did not expect WW to beat this at the BO. You don't invest 300mil to make 650 at the BO. Rule of thumb is movie needs to make double the budget just to break even (they don't get 100% of the tickets from the theaters...theaters take about half that once it averages out), so this movie barely broke even, and home video sales are not what they once were now. There is no sugarcoating the performance of the film: it was a massive disappointment financially by any metric. Liking the movie or not is entirely subjective. But, make no mistake, WB sees this as a failure.
