Justice League Justice League Box Office Prediction - Part 7

I loved Red Son, but every interview I've seen with Millar has given me the opinion that he's nothing more than a BS-peddler who doesn't even believe half the stuff he says himself. He's just saying whatever he thinks sounds good at the time.

At any rate, I fundamentally disagree with pretty much everything he said here.

Millar is spot on, not matter how ******** fanboys feel by his replies. There’s a reason why Batman is the only dependable bo draw for Warner throughout the years, while marvel is creating mega franchise after mega franchise for just about every character they push. I always felt the same about the comics, marvel was really pushing the envelope in real world problems from stark’s addictions to peter parker’s never ending financial problems.

Yeah, that's pretty much nonsense.

Can someone please expand on this? I've seen a bunch of "that's BS" comments about Millar, but nobody is giving counterpoints or examples. I'm honestly curious, as I tend to agree with Millar, but I admit I am very ignorant about the subject. The DC comics I read were decades ago, but they had no personalities to compare to Marvel.

Can somebody enlighten me with a few of the personalities/real world problems in the comics of Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Flash, Wonder Woman, Shazam, etc? And also, specifically how they should apply these to the films? I kinda remember Green Arrow was a bit of a hot head, that's about it. And the Metal Men tried to show a bit of differences between them lol. Mercury was another hot head :)

I've said the same thing for years. DC tends to make their characters like gods while Marvel tends to humanize their heroes. Who's DC's most popular character? Batman who's the most "marvelized" DC character there is. There is some truth to what Miller is saying. I don't agree with him 100% but there is truth to what he is saying.

I have no idea why Marvel Zombies hang out in a DC thread like this.

I'm talking about the people who clearly have shown no real interest or knowledge in DC, but they post in here anyway.

The problem is not that DC's characters are not cinematic. The problem is they keep making bad movies about them. It's really not that complicated.

We had two massively successful Superman films followed by two badly received ones. Not because Superman suddenly changed into a hard to write character, but because they changed the direction of the franchise and gave it to a less competent director (and IV specifically was made on a shoestring budget). And on the Marvel side of things, audiences absolutely love Steve Rogers, whose personality is quite similar to classic Superman's (in fact he is often positioned as the Superman equivalent in the Marvel Universe).

Wonder Woman was a massive success and people liked her character just fine.

Perfect summary.

Really? Is that why a Batman centered JL flopped like cleopatra at the box office?
Batman is just like any other character, do him justice and he'll deliver the green, screw him over and turn him into a psychotic killer and he'll have a hard time getting a solo film green lit.

I'd actually say JL and BVS doing as well as they did at the box office despite horrible word of mouth does show just how popular Batman is. I mean for a film made by a studio not run by idiots (and therefore not given a 300 million dollar budget), Justice League's box office haul would've been considered pretty successful.

Batman v. Superman having a record-smashing opening followed by a historic drop-off the following weekend just shows how massive the hype was leading up to this movie. People were seriously jazzed by the idea of these icons meeting on the big screen.

It's sad because that was the first time we saw them together.
Same for the JL film, another screw up that we can't get back.
They ruined what could, and should, have been two great firsts.

Yup. You only get one chance with something like this. The shot of the Trinity united on the big screen for the first time in history got overshadowed by Sad Affleck.

Meh, do it again in 20-30 years, that DC itch will be back.

The moment's been ruined for this generation, but the next ones still have a shot at that magic. :o

Can the mods please write this in a massive chunky black font at the top of this forum, so that everybody can see it and remember what the actual ****ing problem with DC’s movies are right now.

Oh you'll get no argument from me, the bat is massive but I have a problem when people start talking about batman being the only profitable character for DC when MOS's opening to 129 mill in ticket sales and breaking the (then) june record and doubling both batman's (BB) and spiderman's (ASM) reboots opening weekend numbers clearly shows that superman is (was?) a massive IP as well and would've been much bigger if he was handled correctly.
BvS, JL and marvel's (then) B-listers clearly demonstrated to all of us that it's not so much the IP as it's how it's handled.

Wonder Woman was successful too. There's an audience for DC characters. They even came out for Suicide Squad. Make a good movie and they'll come back in weeks two and three.

Suicide Squad was trash, and it still made money.

You'd have to be clueless about DC and their characters to actually believe what Millar said. Hell, as FlickChick mentioned, even Millar himself probably doesn't believe what he said.

That is Oscar Winner Suicide Squad Trash.

Please use the proper title next time. lol

Suicide Squad was a bad movie, but at least it was a good time. You can go with your friends to the theather, watch the movie, and complain or laugh about how bad it was (you can like it too :D ). Superman in MoS and BvS was not a good time. At all. It is painful to watch him try to be something he can't be: a regular "believable" superhero.

Superman can't be a hero that fails or make moral compromises. I think it was Mark Waid who said something like "Superman is here to make possible what is impossible". To be "super" is his thing.

I'm still waiting on a HDTGM Suicide Squad podcast show.

I feel like in 20 years there is gonna be a fascinating documentary about what the eff happened behind the scenes with this franchise.
