What a load of bollocks this is,Oscar nominations. I now officially hope that Pat is rolling in his grave over this if he hasn't already. Not only has my faith in humanity been destroyed again, but my respect for humanity has went down some more notches, they are out of their f***ing mind!!!!!

So it's a plant because the guy likes the movie & expects Oscar recognition?. Why do you guys got to bring everything about this movie down?. So what?, a movie that teaches honor, respect & good values through kung fu to the younger generation who may not have watched the original karate kid doesn't deserve it?. So Chan doesn't deserve it because you all think he's a hack & have jumped on the bandwagon?. From everything I've seen in the trailer's if James Horner or Jackie Chan don't get a nod at the Oscars, I'll be majorly pissed. Cinematography Also deserves a nod clearly as the shots from the trailer displayed the real beauty of thier culture. I hope this movie blows everyone away & teaches people a lesson about jumping the shark on a movie because it's got a privilidged Black kid in it.

"Kung Fu lives in everything we do. It lives in how we put on the jacket, take off the jacket & lives in how we treat people. EVERYTHING IS KUNG FU!"

Hardly oscar winning material

This coming from a guy who's got "& here......we.....go!" in his Custom User Title. Hmm funny if I remember that's a pretty generic line & delivery, yet he won an oscar didn't he?. See? I can pick out one line of a movie a make an example out of that to. You & I both know that whats written on the page is not what always gets the recognition, it's the delivery & honesty of the actor saying it. When the movies out & it's a flop then we'll talk, until then I wouldn't get to cocky my friend.

I don't think it's a shot at 'you' I think it's an illustration of how your analysis is not logically carried out. There's nothing wrong with liking the quote, but deriding a different movie for having similar dialogue isn't really logical. It's an attack on your statement, not you as a person, and if you're not trying to be logical, then you really shouldn't care anyway.

If anything, the Kung Fu quote is kinda deep, and you don't get "this badassery is our way of life" type quotes every day.

Recently saw the trailer for the new version and I was pleasantly surprised. This lead me to rewatch the original which I love and is part of my childhood. I thought a remake was totally unnecessary but after watching it tonight I saw that it was not without its flaws and that its really dated. If they can retain the basic theme of the movie and improve on the fight scenes, dialogue and cinematography and present a real chemistry between Chan and Smith it could be a big winner this summer.

I just want to know why Jackie Chan is talking about "Kung Fu" in the commercials? This is the "Karate Kid" right?

Figured I'd Bump this since somebody created another thread.

What am I missing here ..... Chan is talking about "kung fu" but the movie is about "karate" ....

Hopefully this is a hit for Jackie Chan as he needs a major hit in the worse way.

I think its everybody in China only know Kung Fu as a Karate style so he has to teach the new kid Kung Fu in order to win. If you remember at one point this was suppose to be called the Kung Fu Kid which would actually make since when he says I will teach you kung fu. Who knows why they called it the Karate Kid instead.

Anyway I think this has potential to break out cause there has been a lot of disapointments so far this summer.

The movie is called the Karate Kid for marketing reasons. In the movie the kid already knows Karate. Or at least thinks he does. When he goes to China he gets bullied and "mocked" of his so called Karate. But he meets a teacher and learns Kung Fu. It's that damn simple. The movie knows the difference between Kung Fu and Karate Kid. Would it have hurt to call it Kung Fu Kid? Of course not. But it in no way insults and culture or intelligence. It's just a title. "The Karate Kid" is his character.

If anyone thinks this movie will be nominated for an Oscar, they are high. I'm not saying the movie's gonna suck or anything, but let's get serious here.

it sincerely makes me sad that film "fandom" has become such a joyless, hateful, cynical thing that someone liking a movie made to be liked is now some suspicious crime.

The movie is 2+ hours long. It wouldn't surprise if it has some great performances in it. This may be the break through serious we been waiting from Jackie Chan. Not to mention Taraji P Hension is a excellent Actress. The movie is beautifully shot, so far, trusted sites who have seen the film and giving it positive buzz. But then of course people find it hard to believe them without them being a "plant" or some other naysayer excuse.
Maybe this movie is really that good to get Oscar buzz, I don't know. See the movie and pass judgement. Instead of pondering on the marketing title for the movie and the fact that it's a remake.

I just came back from watching this. I work for a radio station and we were promoting the film, so we got to see a screening tonight.

This is a classic example of ppl on the internet, particularly film snobs, who think they already know everything there is to know about a flick before seeing it so they dismiss it without thinking twice. OR when someone comes along and tells them "Hey you know what? This movie was actually pretty good!" they REFUSE with every ounce of their being to believe that it can be possible.

Well let me be that guy that says THIS MOVIE WAS ACTUALLY GOOD. In fact, it was FANTASTIC. Jaden Smith owned his role and Jackie Chan never played stupid-funny, which I find annoying from time to time. I hope this movie opens huge this weekend because its very well deserved. The fighting is way better than the original but also it tells the original's story while changing and adding more depth to some areas. I had no idea the film was going to be over 2 hours, and it was a pleasant surprise since it never felt rushed or too fast paced. There are quite a few quiet moments in the film, where just enough emotion is left hanging in the air, and I gotta admit it really got to me. Such a great messege in this film! Not only was this a good remake, it stands on its own 2 feet.

I hope some of yous go out and see it. If you have kids, bring them too. Everyone in the tehater clapped after the film was done.

This movie's trailer to me just demonstrates what I loved about the original Karate Kid. It's a fighting movie to soem degree, yes. But at it's core, it's about the emotional journey, it's about honor, respect for others & yourself & respect for the art form & the beauty of chinese culture. Also as the reviewer above me just said. It stands on it's own 2 feet. It doesn't rely heavily on Nostalgia to win over it's audience. I hope ppl go into this movie with a clear mind & judge this movie as a stand alone film, not compared as a remake.

You said it better than I could have. Thanks for that!

I'm proud to say this remake really is more about the characters and the journey they're on, not to mention all the major characters in the film have flaws and demons to work out. It's not all about fighting and martial arts. This is a great flick!

will i see this movie.........probably
will i pay for it.........not a chance in hell

No more money for jada pinkett smith so she can make more episodes of Hawthorne

Yeah, I saw this at a promo showing, and it was quite good tbh.

Yeah it's also a marketing ploy for the title but at least there is some elements of the plot referring to it...so it is hardly, 'random'.

When I first heard about this remake I was definitely one of its biggest haters...but after the trailers, clips and positive vibes i've been hearing, i've pulled a complete 180 and will DEFINITELY be checking it out.
