Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis

That would be *very* interesting! What ideas do you have for how Darcy's role could be further woven into the Thor-verse?

Here's one: she is a political science major. So maybe if there are a lot of diplomacy issues or palace intrigue, she could have something to contribute drawing on her education.

That would be very interesting, and also potentially hilarious. If it's something like this, I'd love it if Darcy will show some skills, as well as humor, in her field, as both Jane and Sif have been shown to be talented in their fields.

Actually, perusing pics of Hela in the comics, I've noticed that Ultimate Hela looks a hell of a lot like Dennings, a fact which a few posters here have jumped on (in other threads). I think it'd be golden if it turns out she was Hela.

(Just to be pedantic, if a female character has a relationship with another female character, then neither of them could be the *sole* female character with such a relationship :yay:)

To hang in there with one would mean to hang in there with the other one. It would be very cool for both of them to have ongoing ways to contribute to the (MCU) story (and not necessarily as love interest(s)).

Ha! I stand corrected!

That's basically what I meant, where they both are integral to the story of T:TDW and not simply "Jane = Thor's love interest" and "Darcy = friend of Jane's".

I've read bits and pieces that suggest Marvel has some interest in addressing this issue. Here's hoping they stay the course!

I have too :) I do know some fans are growing impatient, but I do believe that MS will improve in this area (as well as franchises featuring heroes of color.)

Yeah!

Oh yeah, doing an image search, I see what you mean. It's a little creepy. . .

Having her turn out to be Hela would be a bit of a strain on continuity, though. For example, there's the story where Sif is in Hel (because some giant made a deal for immortality) and Thor offers his life in exchange for hers. Hela is so impressed by the nobility of the proposed sacrifice that she lets them both go. This was before Sif trained to be a warrior, so it would have taken place at least 900 years before Darcy was born.

And if it's not to be for Jane to be Thor's love interest, then I hope at least she can contribute to the overall storyline in the MCU. (I think there will be a lot of portals in future movies.) But of course I would prefer for both elements to work out.

And similarly for Darcy.

Yeah, that would be awesome too!

Yeah, but we don't know which stories are movie canon or not. So far Hela hasn't even been mentioned in the films. Loki's only children to be shown have been Sleipnir which Odin rode but was not mentioned and Jörmungandr who was on Loki's armor in The Avengers.

It would be a really cool twist though...no wonder Darcy had the urge to taze Thor...

I really do not think that in MCU Loki have ANY children.
Sleipnir is just a strange other dimensional animal and snake (its nothing more its just a snake Jörmungandr), on the armor element is just a symbolic depiction of Loki`s sinful and treacherous nature.

Even in comic (MT 7) Sleipnir is not his son as he was tamed by Odin while he himself was just a boy.
In some resent JIM there is a scene where Loki speak about how Hela can`t be his daughter as she already existed when he was a child but how all believe that she is. In comic it`s probably leftover from the past cycles but MCU is too grounded to allow such a thing in my option.

interesting. Because Kat Dennings, in 2010, on IMBD, for casting, it said Darcy/Hela :O

I won't get excited for an IMDB posting b/c anyone can add whatever to a movie/actor page.

But if pics and/or trailers show Darcy is Hela somehow... cue me

but still, it was said in 2010. And her roll is back, and it is expanded.

For this, and for other reasons, I will go ahead and say it.

I think I was wrong about that alison actress, she is the dark elves queen maybe.

I THINK DARCY LEWIS IS HELA IN DISGUISE

Alice Krige?

BTW, when everyone was talking about Thanos in the "spoilers" thread, it crossed my mind that another potential casting for Krige would be as Death.

(I will attempt to cross-post this in your Alice Krige thread. . .)

(Can't edit the subject line. Sorry about that. It was an attempt to put the post into the Alice Krige thread)

Ahhh, could be. I wonder though, if death would actually be in the MCU. If she was, I sort of figured she'd be like, a hallucination that Thanos sees

I think the movie kind of screwed the pooch by having Thor and Loki apparently be born towards the end of the Viking Age...but then again Thor's Hammer has time travel properties.

Yeah, you're right. How can Thor be part of the Norse pantheon (and in the book that Jane and Co. look through) if he isn't born until almost the end of the Viking Age? Same for Loki.

While that oversight might give them liberty to do so, I still don't think they should compound their error by straining continuity vis-a-vis Darcy/Hela, though.

Too be fair, Jane already fills that role.

Maybe Thor 2 will have a Thor/Darcy/Jane love triangle? I mean, remember that behind-the-scenes drama when Natalie Portman was livid when Marvel kicked Patty Jenkins to the wayside without telling her? I assume Portman is fine with the new director now, but you have to wonder if Marvel isn't taking any chances if Portman doesn't return for a third Thor film.

With Sif around I don't see the point.

I'm sure the signed contracts adequately protect Marvel from any such risks. No need to make the story do the work of an attorney.

And, Natalie Portman is a professional. So I'm sure everything will be fine.

Its a pity they didn't dial the relevant date back just a couple centuries, it would have closed the plot hole just fine. As is, I suspect its better to just not think about it too much.

A love triangle between Thor, Jane and Darcy..... Dear lord what a terrible suggestion... Both in terms of pure taste, as well as reasons for suggesting it.

Of course I'm biased because I'm hoping 'extended role' amounts to nothing more than seeing/hearing of her very early, quick demise...

Love triangle is terrible. But I would like to see her crushing on Fandral after the kiss he gave her hand before they all went back to Asgard.

Look, as long as she refrains from covering those things up this go around, she be Hela, Hera, Frigga, whoever.

You know I was thinking the same thing..how old are all these asgardians? ..lol I figured its Hollywood just assume lol

If there is any sort of triangle it should be Thor/Sif/Jane. Who the hell thinks Darcy is a good match for Thor?

Well, Dennings is getting a bigger role in the movie because her sitcom being so popular now. I assume she'll be one of the following: 1) potential love interest (not ruled out), 2) more comic relief with her trigger-happy taser, 3) she and Stellan Skarsgaard have bigger roles in the story or 4) Darcy hooks up with someone else.

Option #2 almost goes without saying. Darcy's role in the first film was to help people who normally do not enjoy fiction involving science fiction/fantasy/supernatural elements in it to be more comfortable with this material. By all accounts, there will be more supernatural material in this film, so that segment of the audience may need more Darcy.

Option #4 is also possible, especially if it is written in support of Option #2 (ie, the couple has a lot of funny banter). I can see Option #3 happening, too. I tend to think that portals will continue to be important in the MCU.

Option #1 I see as a long shot. In addition to it being unclear that there's anything to build a relationship on, there are too many other potential love interests already in the story. It gets too complicated. Movies have to be a lot simpler with story lines and be a lot more parsimonious with characters than books or comic books.

But I can see a combination of Options 2-4.

How sad is it that "expanded role" for a female character automatically translates to "love interest"?

And that's not a knock on you mclay, you're right that it's how Hollywood typically thinks
