Comics Keep the Mask on Supporters Only!!

If wanting Spidey to keep his mask on makes you an ass...than I'm an ass too. :)

Now that I'm calm about it...

Yes, he should have kept the mask on. It's alot like when they made the Lone Ranger took his mask off. The character was NEVER the same and still hasn't recovered.

That's not to say that no characters should de-mask. Warren Worthington outing himself as a mutant was a very cool take on that. However, Peter Parker is the outcast of the Superhero set, and should stay that way.

Where's the great responsibility in putting all your loved ones at risk? And no, not just MJ and Aunt May, either. Pretty much everyone who's known him is doomed now, unless they go into hiding for the rest of their lives.

This is a VERY out of character move, spurred on by films and the Ultimate line, where his mask is truly optional these days. If I wanted to read Ultimate Spider-Man, then I would.

I'm joining the fight guy's, I'm baffled that there are people who are actually praising this tripe. "Yeah its no big deal, its going to get retconned anyway", listen if the story ends with a retconn it is obviously a ****ty idea.

We need one of 'em Civil War banners

"I'm with keeping the mask on"

Count me as an ass, too.

Also, I'm in favor of keeping the mask on/keeping secert ID. The whole idea's garbage.

My husband thinks it's great. Phooey.

I get the impression that people (based on my husband and a number of people in the Marvel forum) who like it are not regular Spidey collectors/fans, more casual/"fair weather" fans for the most part. He doesn't understand why I'm so upset, but he hasn't read the truly great Spider stories, either. All he knows is what JMS and Bendis have written, so he's really not offended by any of it or how those stories have destroyed chunks of Spidey's history. Blech. After those stories, I just don't trust Marvel to do a good job with this; it'll get bungled like HoM, SP, the Other, New Avengers... *sigh*

And did ya'll see the Drudge Report even had a story on this? I try to get away from this for a while and still can't get away.

I'm in favor of Joe Quesada getting his fat as s fired.

What a Hype driven loser he is.

Bye Bye Comic Book counter culture, cult lifestyle.

Hello shock value tactics that s**t on continuity or flat out ignore back issues in search for squeezing more dimes out of the kids in the pursuit to please the suits.

What a joke.

Hope this is good enough guys!

Not True! I'm a die hard fan/collector/reader and I like the idea (sorta, kinda, maybe)

Amen to that.

It's okay. Knowing Marvel, it will be deleted somehow.

Okay just so we're straight....I wasn't saying I was an ass for wanting the mask to stay on....I was saying I was an ass for starting the thread in the first place :).....sort of a silly shot at the original Thread......but since we seemed to be forming a cozy little self-help group here......Ddamn it!!...I'm an ass too!!!!!

....that could be our war cry!! ASS!!!! "A Simple Spidey"

...but I digress...it's July 15th and in Canada that's the deadline for Single Propriety Business Income tax returns....and I'm wayyyy behind :(

Looks like like I split the Internet in half :p

I formed one side.
WhatIfTales Started the other.

Hey, count me in as an ass as well, even though:

1. Peter's been unmasked dozens of times in the past. "But this is different," say the Marvel Zombies. "This time everybody knows." Yeah, well the point is he was unmasked before and he's been unmasked now. See this for an example:

http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9120936&postcount=59

2. Most likely Peter ID will get restored one way or another because one of the templates of Spidey is that he's an ordinary guy behind the mask--not a celebrity. Give MAYBE one or two years at the most before something looking like a traditional template is restored. Then chalk it up as another list in the long line of bonehead decisions done for shock value and sales like:

AzBats
Electric "Red" and "Blue" Superman
Wolverine w/o Adamantium and bone claws
Ben Reilly as the "real" Spider-Man
Hal Jordan becomes a super-villain
War Machine
The African-American Punisher
The Punisher as an Angel of Vengence
Thunderstrike
The Merged Hulk
Joseph, the good and younger Magneto clone
etc.

All of which were results to change the status quo, all of which ended up failing miserably, and all of which ended up resulting in convoluted ways to fix.

Oh, I know there are exceptions; TMOB seems to love this... It was just a general observation.

What I don't understand is how cavalier everyone is about how "this'll all be undone anyways" as if somehow that makes it okay. You know what? It's not okay. I'm tired of retcon this-ignore that. It's not like this is just a change of uniform, which didn't bother me at all, as ugly as it is, because Pete at some point can just choose not to wear the Iron Spidey suit. No big deal. But there is no choosing not to unmask once it's done. They will have to do something very drastic if this is to be undone, and it just feels cheap as far as I'm concerned.

As much fence sitting as I prefer to do on Civil War, I don't think I can really just settle myself on knowing it can just be retconned (Hobgoblin could make a killing off of selling those bombs though, couldn't he?), as it'll just feel as shallow and empty as him taking off the mask. Just because anything can be swept under a rug doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it.

So, I report in as an ass as well.

Asses Unite! Keep the Mask!!

Spidey should have NOTHING to do with the government's stinkin' agenda.

I did not see that coming at all. I thought we were going to get the Super-Villain busting-in-at-the-last-second business. I'm stunned. What a great story though.

"Spider-Man No More" for Real.

http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/CivilWar/CivilWar2_End.html
Pete wants MJ, Aunt May DEAD.
He wants to be sued by J.J.
He wants to never be able to get a Job.
Nobody would want to sit next to him on a bus or train
in fear of his enemies.
There is absolutely no reason for a costume ever...
Thus no reason to buy the book.
Marvel F**ked themselves...
Lame.:down

In these past few years Marvel has done a few BAD ideas and I wouldn't put it past them to retcon everything.

Spidey's identity has been revealed, in what I feel is the stupidest move in comic book history. Now, fans are left wondering "How in the HELL is Marvel going to make this work?" I think I've come up with a semi-solution (or potential solution).

Spider-Man: BORN AGAIN.

Yes, that is the title of the CLASSIC Daredevil story, where his identity was revealed to his greatest foe. And what happened to Murdock? He disappeared. Nobody knew where he was. He was REBORN.

Spidey's enemies know his true identity. I think it could be time for some brilliant story telling. Whatever the story may be, I think that Spider-Man needs to "die" and be "reborn."

He needs to be BORN AGAIN.

This, I feel, may be the only way to save our favorite hero. I can only hope that whatever Marvel does, they pull it off.

The only way to save Spider-Man is to get rid of Joe Q and his army of hack writers.
