Comics Keep the Mask on Supporters Only!!

I'm an ass too!!! I think that he should keep the mask on. I mean, come on, since the whole world will know who he is he might as well never wear the mask again! What would be the point? I think Joe Q's writers are running out of ideas, so unmasking him would mean more of his enemies would attack his loved ones/friends, since they now know who he is. Which in turn creates larger conflict for Peter.:spidey:

I want to be an ass too! :D

Seriously, ever since Uncle Ben came back (sort of) I've been clamoring for a retcon bomb.

Damn it, when will it be safe to collect Spider-Man comics again :( ?

I love how everyone's calling themselves asses due to a misunderstanding of a joke on the first post. But, I'll be an ass too, just to keep it going.

So here's an interesting thought. Joe Q doesn't like the Spider-Man marrage because it takes Peter away from a fundamental element that was a basis for his early adventures...

Umm... Let's let that sink in a second, especially since Millar said the unmasking was Joe's idea.

I'm still in shock. I can't believe Marvel did this. I won't be able to read a Spider-Man comic the same way until they find some way to undo this. I won't try to explain why this is wrong, but I just don't have the energy right now.

And it seems like every other month there is a new reason to say that. If they can't come up with interesting stories that keep mechanical webshooters, keep Gwen off Normans' desk, keep Spider-Man from being a wimpy stooge, then they should hand over the reigns to writers and editors that care and CAN write within the theme.

But they won't, because this is the greatest job they ever had, the moneys' good and they actually get fame for creating ASM.

It's just a shame. JMS is really not that good. Joe Q really works first for the suits, second for himself, third for his friends, and last for the readers.

Stan Lee worked first for the READERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go put that in your peace pipe and ponder that for awhile.

We're gonna send a little group photo over to the thread that thinks this was a good idea and we'll cc Joey Q. Okay Asses, let's have you all line up side by side facing the camera. Okay, turn around. Hold on while I zoom in. Umm, yeah, go ahead and drop the trousers... nice! (click)

Guess which side I'm on?!

I'm enjoying the hell out of Civil War, sure, but we all know that Joey Q pushed this forward in order to get people saying one thing: "I'd have rather them ended the marriage than do this!"

As soon as he hears that in abundance, he's going to take the oppurtunity to undo this at the expense of the marriage. Mark my words. This is nothing but misdirection.

It's deceptive, and it's the last motherf***ing straw. Spider-Man has been utterly destroyed in the last 5 years. The Clone Saga is a freakin' Golden Goose compared to this crap-fest. First, Sins Past, then The Other, Then Iron Spidey, now this crap.

That's 4 shots to Spidey's head, as far as I'm concerned. They've changed his origin, changed his past, killed him and resurrected him as SOMEONE ELSE, given him the worst costume in Spidey history (and it IS), and now he doesn't even have a secret identity.

Oh yeah, the relatable character we loved is dead and buried. They are just pissing on his grave.

Those bastards at Marvel! I would love to know how Stan feels about all this. How could it possibly feel knowing one of your greatest creations has been completely destroyed in 1 year.

Then chalk it up as another list in the long line of bonehead decisions done for shock value and sales like:

AzBats

I am a big ass

The AzBats thing wasnt done for shock value. Once ayear the Bat writers would get together to discuss their big plans and all the time someone would say "Lets kill off Bruce Wayne." So they decided to write a story showcasing why Bruce Wayne is Batman and no one can replace him.

The Clone Saga had redeeming qualitys hence the Golden Goose comparison

1/ The concept was strong (that's my opinion only)
2/ Some of the stories within the Saga itself were nothing short of Magnificent. The Trial of Peter Parker, The Lost Years etc (once again my opinion)
3/ Pete's characterization throughout the whole storyline was relatively consistent. (Except when he initially finds out he's a clone and decides to join The Jackal...that made no sense)

....Iron Spidey, The Other, Sins Past...no redeeming qualitys...(one could argue the art was good...but Deodato's gone now anyway.) These stories had one purpose and one purpose only....to cause Sales spikes by creating a frenzy of activity enjoyed by youths who spend all day crashing their Evel Knievel Stunt Bikes into the side of their Parent's garage...."it's exciting, it's new, it's earth shattering"...does it make sense at all?...."Did I mention it's earth shattering??"

...Civil War doesn't fall into the category of the aforementioned because it does have redeeming quality.......there's no doubt about it...Pete taking off the mask makes no sense whatsoever.....but not unlike the Clone Saga....Civil WAr has redeeming quality....thus far it's been well written, I'm interested in seeing how Villains and the like react to the news (even though what precipitated the action was simply non-sensical)....and it's just an intriguing plot that I look forward to being played out as opposed to the "Other" where I was simply looking forward to it ending!

All I ask of these lame brain's is..

1/ Write a great Civil war
2/ Have Pete at some point beat Stark so bad he'll think he's back off the wagon (If he's not already)
3/ Give us back (hopefully after he beats out Stark) the confident never say die hero we've all enjoyed reading about.
4/ Gives us a tender "I may be leaving the Avengers Steve but you'll always have a friend and an ally in Peter Parker -Spiderman" moment
5/ Retcon that f$#%ing unmasking to hell!!...immediately after Civil WAr if not sooner!!

No I still won't put the Spidey stories back on my pull list...but I won't fire bomb your house either....ya see...ya give a little...ya take a little!!

Hmmm you think our theme song should be a remix of the Alice Coooper Classic "We're all Clones"?? :O

Edited to add...can someone make us an A.S.S banner for the club house?

Well, let me for one relieve him of THAT notion!

I just MIGHT keep reading in hopes that the ID will be restored... kill MJ or violate the marriage, and that would be a TOTAL DEAL-KILLER.

I'm sick of this CONSTANT tragedy/torture thing they have going on with him. Kill MJ and seriously, how does Peter go on? Truely, EVERYONE he loves DIES! Or, if they have him just quickly move on to be some, out-of-character shallow love em/leave em type, or just too angst-ridden to get "close" to anyone... BLAH! BORING! Characters like THAT are a dime a dozen. And that's NOT Spider-Man.

Oh...don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying Civil War. The ending for the secodn issue not withstanding, I'm enjoying it to an obscene degree! The thing is, in the context of CW, the Unmasking doesn't bug me. If it fit neatly into these 7 issues, didn't run into the ongoing comics, and it was undone by the end of it, then I would be thrilled.

Unfortunately, it's bleeding into the regular books (2 of which were shot anyways), and the odds of it being undone by the end of CW are not too good.

Mark Millar running with this concept in Civil War doesn't bug me, it's what JMS and PAD are going to do with it in their respective books that has me worried.

agreed...emphatically:up:

Being a long, long time reader of Spidey,...this unmasking totally RUINS the character/comic for me. I am highly annoyed by this.

It goes against so many past stories and logical sense for Peter Parker.

THey can at least shorten their "Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider Man" title to just "Peter PArker" now. They made him a fool.

He is an everyman...a hard working normal person...how cna he be that now? How can he get a job or keep one? HE is a danger to everyone. He had money problems before and now his whole life is down the crapper. His family and anyone that knows him is in danger. Wow-clever story writing here.

Unmasking may be "ok" for some people...and i don't mind it if it makes sense-but it just doesn't for Peter. This is as dumb if not dumber than the clone saga and i hope someone is remembered for ruining and betraying a character for a few extra bucks.

The Clone Saga was far better than this drivel. Than all of this JMS JoeyQ drivel.

I don't know why I didn't do it before, but now I'm definitely dropping all things Spidey except for Ultimate (which, appart from the Peter/Kitty relationship, has seriously been testing my patience since the Carnage arc).

at least I still have Invincible, which is everything Spider-Man was, should be, and hasn't been for quite some time.

I can't say I didn't see this coming. Spidey's been a sell-out for a long time. It fits with the character that he would do this, I guess. For me, though, it ruins what the character is supposed to be. There was a reason Spidey was one of the most popular heroes. You know what that reason was? cuz he was RELATABLE. That's what makes a good character. As soon as Spidey started getting over his problems, he started alienating readers. I'm one of those readers. I'm one of the people who think he shouldve never even gotten married, but maybe there aren't any others.

After sleeping on this whole unmasking thing, I can definitely agree that this move doesn't make sense for Peter and the reasons for him to reveal himself on live television is beyond me, but I do believe this unmasking makes Civil War more interesting in terms of the story. I'll admit I enjoy CW. I didn't enjoy Sins Past or The Other (a few more, but I just don't want to go there). After the smoke clears, I hope Spidey will come to his senses and realize why he wore the mask in the first place. At least give the fans that much back. But with the way Spidey has been written for awhile, even if he decides he wants his identity a secret, I don't think we'll get the old Spidey back.

Sorry if this came off as some sort of rant, I needed to write to clear my head.

Spidey didn't just sell out. he became Tony Stark's little b!tch.
