The Last Jedi Kelly Marie Tran as Rose

I thought she was terrific. I added a Rose Funko to my TLJ collection tonight.

I liked her, or at least wanted to as the portrayal was good. I can't really say that her story and that love aspect that came out of nowhere was very well made.

I guess she's like Finn. I thought I'd dislike Finn based on the TFA trailers but he ended up a good character, but he hasn't been used very well.

The movie would have been better without her through no fault of the actress playing her.

Nothing against the actress, but her character and plot line added nothing to the movie and wasted 30 minutes of storytelling.

Her acting was fine, but character was very disposable - and I don't buy the sacrifice + coma at the end (that whole sequence was just crap)

Agree that the whole casino, rose and Benicio plot could have been wiped from the movie

I was gonna jump to defend her plotline, but i'm biased.

I mean, I liked her as a character, and I have a weakness toward both her character and the actress because they seem so nice and adorable, so I have a hard time conceding that the casino bit was a bit of a drag.

I'd totally would like to see more of Kelly Marie tho. She seems like a good actress and a down to earth person. (and so cute OMG!)

Seems to be a common opinion that people thought the actress was fine but the role/storyline given to her not that good.
I would have liked to see her get another shot so it's disappointing that she's out and I wasn't a fan of the way she went out either.

I hope she’s written out of episode 9 like how jar jar was written out of episode 3.

I may be misinterpreting-- Are you implying Rose is dead? Because she's not...

Yeah...

She's still alive. I think she's supposed to be this generation's Lando counterpart, and to give us a sorta potential love triangle option depending on how JJ Abrams approaches things in IX.

Couldnt stand her. Was hoping she had died at the end and Im not here for this forced romance with Finn

Lando? Nothing about her screams Lando

I love this comment on Twitter:

My fav from #TheLastJedi; Rose Tico wasn’t a martial artist or fetishized, but she was an everyday fan that aspired to be more. Not chosen nor magical- just grit, heart and courage. She is all of us.

I liked her a lot. Very charming with a lot of spirit.

Just read my post back and I must have been drunk when I wrote that. :funny: I guess it was late. :O I'll give it another go lol.
That scene where she takes out Finn, the resolution to that didn't work at all for me. Felt half-hearted and over with in a flash. And as he was speeding directly forward she would have had to have a way faster ship to have crashed into him from the side without him being able to see in advance, given that she didn't start ahead of him. And the main point is that it would have been a beautiful death scene for Finn (not Rose!) but they copped out at the last minute. With Finn's character not really getting much improvement for me in TLJ it will be fine if he gets another shot in TLJ but otherwise I think they've missed a good opportunity here.

Her character and her feelings towards Finn to me, were just Misery as played out in a Star Wars film, none of it worked for me.

That kiss felt forced and out of left field. Wasn't earned as there was no build up.

I'm kinda with the masses here.

Tran was far from horrible but she was not quite charismatic or memorable either. The dialog and the arc she was involved with didn't help matters as it's the weakest part of the film and this is from someone that ADORES TLJ.

Part of it was the build up we had for the character. But Rose, like Del Toro's DJ were just kinda... There. The kiss in my view is the least of the issues with Rose. At the same time she wasn't particularly offensive either. I think Johnson with the Rose and Finn stuff went both too subtle, in terms of characterization and too broad in terms of the setting and tone of those scenes. Also...
Why does Finn need Rose to open his eyes about the state of the Galaxy?
Uh... He's a man who was captured as a child and forced to be a faceless LITERAL Stormtrooper for the First Order. I think he gets how messed up the Galaxy can be. I get that she was supposed to be part of the arc for Finn where he commits to the Resistance. But it wasn't quite as successful as it needed to be.

Zero chemistry. They should have hired a different actress if this was the route they were going or just leave them as friends, which is the only thing their scenes earned

This character did nothing for me and the romance angle felt tacked on (if anything it weirded me out as I was under the impression that the character was being portrayed as a teenager).

In fact, if I have any major complaints about this movie, it is the Finn/Rose plot generally. Casino planet could be completely cut out without missing a beat. I honestly think Finn would've been better served just staying in a coma throughout the movie rather than forcing him into a subplot that ultimately goes no where and serves no real purpose.

Wow.

For everyone that's claiming that the whole casino thing could have been thrown out:

Rose and the casino were the connective tissue to the "everyman" subplot this movie had. Where not everyone has to be from some royal bloodline to be Force-sensitive and eventually a Jedi.

She helped exposition the plot (or was the voice) of the downtrodden in the galaxy vis-a-vis the ones who profit from the raging wars.

Her story allowed the ending with the "new Luke/Anakin", with the Force-sensitive kid being shown as the future of the Jedi and the Rebellion.

Point 1 - I think Rey illustrates that point far better than anyone and rather than waste time on the casino subplot, such time could've been spent fleshing out Snoke and establishing that like Rey, he is really no one special: just someone who had aptitude in the force and used the power vacuum to seize control for himself. That demonstrates it on both sides of the aisle.

Point 2 - But that theme ultimately went no where. Its not plot exposition if it is just a throw away monologue that never comes up again. Plot exposition, by nature, needs to move the plot forward. Establishing that there are rich people who profit off of wars did not do that as it held no relevance in the grand scheme of things.

Point 3 - Was that scene really so crucial that it required a thirty minute detour? Hell, I'd argue that scene works as a stand alone scene, without the subplot. Just have some kid getting pushed around by a First Order Stormtrooper or something and you have the same exact result when he looks up at the stars hopefully.
