What exactly should the 6 year old have done though? Refuse?
At that age I doubt he knew the validity of the punishment or the proper consequences. He was probably trying to avoid some sort of punishment that would get leaked back to his parents. He gets home and he's crying because he feels guilty and his parents ask him what happened... Then he spills it.
I doubt the kid even realized how far out of bounds this guy was until AFTER he'd told his parents.
I totally agree. I thought about it myself. The principal likely used fear tactics ("I'll call your parents!"; "Do you want a suspension?!") and most kids wouldn't question the guy in charge.
