Kingsman: The Secret Service

This looks really fun. And Sam Jackson swearing is always fun to watch.

Mark Hamil joins THE SECRET SERVICE
:whatever:

I watched all the trailers. I don't see no Mark Hamil..

Where the hell is my Mark Hamill? :cmad:

Haha yeah they show the whole plot pretty much, i'm lucky i've read the comic. :shr:
I recently bought it. I'll get to it during the holidays. :woot:

The photo is assuring.... however..

I hope that be not one of them Deleted Scenes that some here Coon-Dog directors like to do to make us here Mark Hamil (with one L) fans all upset and the like. I reckon it might bee.
:cmad:

One of my most anticipated movies of the year.

This looks completely and utterly insane, I LIKE IT!!

Saw the trailer on TV yesterday. This one looks really good!

Hoping for something fun that looks like the Man from U.N.C.L.E. or The Avengers.

Colin Firth would have made a good John Steed. And Michael Caine is always fun to watch.

I feel like Jackson is just on autopilot doing his patented shtick in this.

Firth looks cool though and Caine is always welcome.

The last time I saw Jackson as a villain was in The Spirit. So I'm a bit nervous about this. But it does look like a lot of fun.

I love Jackson's shtick so that's no skin off my back:woot:

His "patented shtick" is more "angry badass." This seems more like "quirky/darkly funny sociopath" to me.

Went and saw this last night at a early screening. I think I said in the anticipation thread I wasn't too interested in this one. Well, it doesn't matter now, because I loved the hell outta this movie. The opening credits had me hooked, as the text was blowing up out of a building getting hit with missiles. It looked fake as hell, as did a lot of the effects, but it was intentional. A lot of charm that way. Colin Firth was a badass gentleman spy, and Taran Egerton has a lot of potential. He fell flat in places, but there were moments of perfection from him giving depth to Eggsy. Sam was a lot of fun to watch as well. There's a scene where he and Galahad have dinner, and it was a joy to see them both play that. A lot of references to Bond throughout the film, with nods to Bourne and 24 in there as well. Really enjoyed this one, and recommend people getting out to the theaters to support and enjoy it.

8.5/10

My goodness, Colin Firth is kicking all kinds of butt, and the fight choreography is sick!

I posted this in the movie's other thread over in the Misc. Comic Book Movies forum...

I saw this at an advance screening last night.

It was really, really good. When I saw the first trailer for it, I was not impressed, but I figured I would give it a go (especially since it's Matthew Vaughn and it was a free screening). This was the most fun I've had at a movie theater since Guardians of the Galaxy. It's funny. It's over the top with it's violence. It's just a good time.

I wasn't sold on Colin Firth going into it, but I know he's a good actor, so I figured I would see how he does in the role. He was totally believable as the badass he played. The whole cast was really good, including Mark Hamill (who uses a slight variation of his Joker voice, it seems).

If you are on the fence about going to see this movie, I hope this post pushes you in the right direction. Seriously, go see it.

Just saw this. Twice. My favorite Matthew Vaughn film and that is saying something. Everyone was brilliant, but my MVPs were Mark Strong, Firth, and Sam Jackson. Cool, suave and hilarious. The humor was equally on point. Reminded me of John Wick in that regard. The action was as glorious as always with Vaughn, as was the music. Heck, this might be the best use of Freebird ever. My only regret is that every time I saw Roxy, I was imagining Emma Watson in the role, which is of course unfair.

Everyone needs to go see this so the world can get the sequel it deserves.

I saw this last weekend and loved the hell out of it... I'm not really sure what I expected but it wasn't anything like that at all. It doesn't take itself seriously but doesn't come off as parody or anything either (similar to Kick Ass). Colin Firth and Sam Jackson are awesome.

It's gloriously violent but not gory, funny, has a decent plot, great leads, fantastic and stylish action (dem fight scenes) and is just a heck load of fun. Everyone should see it!

Absolutely not. This was one of Jackson's better performances in a long while, and that goes beyond simply speaking with a lisp (although that is hilarious).

That brilliance of Vaughn's tone. I am still not sure how he continues to pull it off. From Layer Cake to Kingsman, he nails it every time.

One of the best soundtracks since Guardians.

I caught this last night.

Overall, I will say that this is an entertaining and energetic movie. I enjoyed it.

It definitely has that Mark Millar stank in some areas though, for better or for worse.

The movie often chugs along and is quite fun only to be somewhat derailed by moments that don't really fit the tone or the intent behind them is kind of unclear or are somewhat misguided.

There are certain scenes in which while not filled with gore, push the violence to the point of being numbing and are just weird character and storywise. The movie clears up the reason why these scenes happen but overall it seems to try and have it both ways. As these scenes of ultra-violence take place they are presented in such a purposefully "cool" way that it seems that you should be rooting for it, but then just in case you didn't buy into it they handwave it away as mind control and such.

The movie also has a bit of identity crisis. It frequently and literally has characters say "This isn't that kind of movie" when referring to old spy films but at the same time desperately wants to be, borrowing and referencing stylistic cues. It also tends to play into some of the worst aspects of the early bond films, in terms of sexism and such in certain areas. Again, it really wants to have things both ways.

Overall, I liked the movie despite certain qualms. I recommend seeing it but warn that your mileage may vary.

I can't decide what my favorite action scene was. They do what they do, brilliantly. Also, loving Vaughn calling back to his Kick-Ass FPS sequences.
