Kneel before your Queen... Amber Heard IS Mera!

Jessica Chastain is amazing - in talent and looks. I think there's a good chance she'll end up in a superhero movie sooner or later, but she's highly sought after and will have her pick of any number of roles. I'm not sure she'd choose to play Mera.

A good choice if they go a non-traditional casting route: Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The almost sure "Jeff Nichols" director of Aquaman could be a factor.

Another possibility to play Mera is the appropriately-named Laura Haddock. She's in Da Vinci's Demons and had the very small role of Peter Quill's mother in Guardians of the Galaxy. She's talented, gorgeous, and looks good with her hair in a variety of colors. I'd like to see her in a DC movie at some point. She'd fit the bill as Mera, but would suit a number of other parts, too.

She's a fair bit older than Aquamoa. I'm not sure whether that matters.

I'm sure it's been stated numerous times but....JESSICA CHASTAIN. End of casting choices. She's the only one.

I just hope that they cast an actress that has a credible acting background and somewhat of an fondness for the character. This film will definitely benefit from having some legit stars in supporting roles alongside Jason's character.

I think it will be hard to find a lot of actresses that have any fondness for Mera lee, or even were aware of her existence.

True; maybe not so much a fondness for Mera's character per say, but just comic book mythology. As we've seen with past comic book films, it's not exactly easy getting the best performances from any actor if they don't care about something else other than their paychecks or the exposure that they'll be getting from doing that given film...and it certainly doesn't help the process when it comes to securing them again for future installments.

I actually wouldn't mind if they were to have Mera in the JL film in some capacity. A scene with her an Diana together would be interesting.

Since the decision appears to have been made to link the Atlanteans to Momoa's Polynesian heritage, I think Mera should be cast with that in mind.

Yes, but I expect there will be a prevailing submarine culture, and that tattoos, dreadlocks and the like are supposed to be its traits. I would prefer Mera to be changed in the same way that Aquaman has been, at least for consistency.

Mera isn't Atlantean.

Correct me if I am wrong but... Aren't the Xebeleans just the descendants of Atlanteans that were cast out by previous regimes? SO... Doesn't that make them Atlanteans?

Agreed.

I'd keep the red hair though. :woot:

I can't really see that working. It seems to sit at odds with the distinctly non-European pseudo-culture that inspires Aquamoa's design.

On the other hand, Momoa does have blondish hair as Aquaman, so...

Besides, it is not entirely impossible. There are African tribes that have red hair (I can't recall their names, but I will find them) and it is assumed that Cleopatra actually had it too.

yeah, but I don't know if I want them to go full on Keira Knightley in King Arthur either.

This is a made up culture so Aquaman and Mera could look different to show they aren't uniform in appearance. Different subcultures.

I'm not a fan of the idea, either, but I think that it is probably necessary given the approach they have taken with Aquamoa, if he is to appear as a hero within a coherent culture, rather than Khal Drogo in the DCU.
