Knight Rider 2008: The Thread

Oh, I didn't expect it to be the same. I just didn't really like what they did with it. I probably would've been disappointed regardless, though. I really, really love the Knight Rider theme. It's one of the few theme songs on my MP3 playlist that I'll just listen to for no particular reason.

I'm not saying the original theme was any less because it is fantastic, but its basically a synthesizer....How could anyone expect it NOT to be changed??

I think the issue is that the main melody isn't preserved. Having the beginning part is one thing, but the actual meat of the theme has been removed. The promos seemed to imply that there'd be some updated version of that main section, but there wasn't.

I liked the new theme, although I missed the main melody. But it didn't bug me. I just accepted it as a new theme built off the most recognizable part of the old one.

I wonder why they decided to go with Ford....did they shop the idea around to car companies and Ford offered the best deal?

I imagine that had a lot to do with it. The new Shelby just came out last year, I think, and it's a reasonably cool car (although, as others have pointed out, the fact that so many other new Mustangs are already on the road makes KITT seem less unique). I wouldn't be surprised if NBC/Universal went to Ford and asked for a deal, but I'm sure they would've retooled it and made KITT a different car if some other car company made a better offer. If only Chevrolet had any sort of money at this point... new Camaro...

and probably that Chevy(which is owned by GM and also own Pontiac (trans am) and Paramount are such good partners now after the success of Transformers, they wouldnt want to contribute to one of Paramounts competitors (Universal)

I heard the ratings for both hours were great. Something like 12.7 million, I think.

I'm assuming it'll get picked up.

with the writers' strike there probably won't be a lot of newer shows...so Id think the chances are pretty good it will probably get at least another tv movie or a half season order

You can modernize it ina subtle way that gives it new instrumentation, maybe a faster pace, but all the basic beats and harmonies are still recognizable. At first it does it well, but then it degenerates into a cacophony of generic "hip" stuff.

Wow. I just watched one of the commercials with Arnett's voice as KITT. After Kilmer, it sounds all wrong. I don't think I would have liked KITT nearly as much with Arnett's voice.

I also watched the new theme a couple of times. It's really starting to grow on me. I think if the beginning classic intro had gone on twice without the guitar, instead of just once, it feel more like classic KR and be easier to transition to the new theme.

10:00pm - Knight Rider

and another note, Knight Rider did make use of contemporary and popular music during its run in the eighties

I can't imagine KITT playing Kelly Clarkson, Souljaboy, Kanye West, that music is garbage.

Val Kilmer is perfect as KITT, hope they can keep him, it should be priority number one. Then a couple of changes to the mustang, to make it more stylish, there's plenty of potential and NBC has the means, hope they deliver next fall.
