Knight Rider 2008: The Thread

The old theme works well..why couldn't have they just stuck to that theme..it starts so well.

:(

They should have kept going with what they did at the start, just a slight reinstrumentation of the theme, instead they try too hard to make it "hip" and it ends up being generic and unrecognizable.

This show need a new direction. It wont last the way it is.

The original series had Hasselhoff chasing jewel thieves and extortionists for the most part...it was hardly Hamlet. I'm sure a new series would be able to have deeper story.

What bugs me is that KITT's voice is different. I dont know, i grew up with Knight Rider and i cant watch a different KITT.

Oh and yes they should have kept the original theme.

Same here but things change and you get over it....GROW UP

Yeah but come on! You cant change a classic.

the show had 3 quality seasons out of 4 and its not like Hasselhoff is the great thespian of our time. it was a decent show when it was on...but I'm not going to cover a turd in gold spray paint and call it a nugget simply because it was around a long time ago. Things change because you need to appeal to the largest audience possible.

Exactly, looking back with rose-tinted glasses.

I LOVED the show back in the day, but it was just for entertainment value - it was by no means brilliantly written or acted.

I think it's idiotic how some people want the new show to have the same car, same theme tune, etc. Move with the times! Otherwise lets just rerun the original series - it would be cheaper ffs.

Gaz

The theme song was classic, one of the more memorable and better theme songs of all-time. Certainly recognizable. Why they had to change it with a remake is beyond me. I know the show was hardly M*A*S*H or Cheers, but it was popular at the time and there are certain elements that should have remained.

Yes, at the time.....20 years ago.

I watched this last night, and I LOVED it!

New theme song, I liked the first half it but the second half went somewhere else and sounded nothing like the original theme.

I really hope this gets picked up!

I don´t want the theme to be EXACTLY the same, but I think you can update it without ruining what´s cool about it, there have been many examples of classic themes - James Bond, Mission Impossible, etc. - where there was a new instrumentation, some added undertones, a slightly different pace, but all the basic elements of the theme are recognizable. The new theme starts doing that well, but then it becomes this cacophony that´s neither recognizable as the classic theme nor that cool in itself. It´s just generic "hip" sounds that you can hear anywhere.

I understand a lot of people here have this disdain for anything "hip" or "popular"...but what you don't understand is that "hip" and "popular" things is what get most people watching your show.....which means ratings. That is why you see a lot of shows using popular music. It's about catering to the largest audience possible, not the 40 people on an internet message board who want everything a specific way

Any change automatically warrants a

"they raped my childhood!"

They should have added flames to KITT >_>

Updated classic themes that have only been slightly tweaked for a modern audience have proven to still be popular, as the aforementioned Bond, Mission Impossible, etc. They have a timeless quality, and so does the KR theme, which is still regarded as one of the coolest TV show themes, as this "update" is bond to be forgotten as soon as you finish listening to it.

Bond and Mission: Impossible are franchises that have endured for three decades....well 4 decades for Bond....and sorry...the theme from a TV show that lasted 4 seasons is not in the same league....no matter what TV Guide or Entertainment weekly says.

Mission Impossible was a TV show that lasted some seasons and had an update (in the eighties, I think) that wasn´t nearly as popular as the original and then there was the movie three decades after the original. I´m not comparing the shows, I´m comparing the themes, and KR theme is regarded by many TV fans as one of the best show themes ever. Most of all, it´s one of the most beloved elements of the old show for KR fans, and if you´re going to update it, you need to appeal to the fanbase, and the theme is one of the few things that most fans agree didn´t need a radical "reinvention".

i tivo'd this when it came on the other night, and finally got around to watching it.

long story short: it blew.... a lot.

I think it's better off having the occasional TV movie of the week during sweep months, maybe an updated version of KARR and Goliath.

Lets face it I think Michael Knight took out all the jewel thieves and slimeball businessmen during his tenure. :)

and who steals jewels anymore?....maybe the new guy can chase evil computer hackers and celebrity stalkers...

Now that they're working with the FBI, they could just go after drug kingpins and serial killers and stuff. You know, the types of people the FBI go after.

As much as I loved the original Knightrider...I just couldn't bring myself to watch the "reincarnation."

It cou;d work,... if they reduce the BS and just run with it.

I Watched the return,.... SO MUCH BETTER than team KR,... No issues with KITT or Mikey Jr.

And the Female cop who likes girls wasn't bad either,... :word:

the fact is that the producers are clearly going for a homo / lesbo erotic route with this new series.

the lesbian fbi chick, a homosexual KITT, and a new gay lead character called Mike Traceur.

They are going straight for the MTV style audiences brought up on the Real World and P Diddy and whatever crap people watch these days.
