Kong: Skull Island - Part 2

No one was that interested in another King Kong remake. More effort should've been spent on capitalizing on Godzilla's momentum and not waiting five years to do a sequel.

Not everyone was impressed with Godzilla's 2014 offering either. Judging by the footage we have seen so far at least Kong will have plenty of screen time.

I'm not going to say you are wrong. The 2014 movie actually sold less tickets than GINO.

But apparently it did well enough to get a sequel greenlit, and it got pretty decent reviews. It was fairly well received so they could've capitalized on that, but they stumbled IMHO by setting it FIVE YEARS later.

We saw how the long waits hurt the new Star Trek sequels.

But if Skull Island opens loser than $35 million off a $200 million budget...that's going to be bad.

I feel like WB is really overestimating interest in a Godzilla/Kong shared universe. I just don't think the demand is there.

Despite the seeming resurgence of the genre, none of these recent his t monster movies have been complete slam dunks. They basically exist because That's Tull likes playing fast and loose with other people's money. It hasade for several very cool projects but it is finally catching.up with him.

From a business perspective, 190 million on this is downright irresponsible. I just hope it is an enjoyable film.

I think because Marvel did it and now Star Wars is kind of doing it, everyone wants their own shared universe.

I definitely agree with you. A 5 year wait between sequels is far too long.

Coming to a concession stand near you. Those Kong cup toppers are reminiscent of the ones they sold for Godzilla in Japan.

Especially when there are so many huge movies being released from year to year. I think it's a big mistake to wait that long, unless the product they deliver is nothing short of astounding.

But if KSI has a weak opening, it's going to pretty much kill their shared universe idea.

Indeed.

Edwards.kind of screwed them on waiting around to just drop working on a sequel after they expected his return following Star Wars.

That's true, too. They counted on waiting for him per his SW work and that ended up being a bust. As much as I love his installment, they shouldn't have ever settled for that alternative. And now it's come back to bite them in the ass.

I wish they made a new King Kong game. That would be awesome.

We're not too sure of that as of yet. Better see the actual reception Kong gets first before determining the future of the Monsterverse.

The 2005 one was one of the few great movie videogame adaptations.

I have a feeling Zilla v Kong will be pushed up to 2019. 2020 seems so far away.

You mean pushed back. Not sure why they'd do that given King Of The Monsters is coming out that same year.

here a Video who introduce the Giant Spider better known as Mother Longlegs

Okay, fair enough. It could hypothetically come back to bite them. I hope it doesn't, but even if this gets critical acclaim, that won't save it if it opens at $34 million. Again, though, that could always end up being wrong if the proper interest is generated between now and next month.

Skull Island poster by famed Kaiju illustrator Yuji Kaida. I'm not much for it personally.

Vogt-Roberts with Kaida in Japan.

Any update on those weak tracking numbers for opening weekend? I hope this movie does good business as I'm, for one, really looking forward to a Monster universe.
If it repeats Godzilla (2014) business - $500m-ish without looking it up - would that be enough for it to be deemed a success?
