Kong: Skull Island - Part 4

No. That is Godzilla vs Kong. I'm talking about a full Kong sequel.

Godzilla is getting one, why not Kong?

Godzilla vs. Kong counts as a sequel, just as Batman v. Superman counts as a sequel to Man of Steel. It's still a continuation of Kong's story.

They're probably waiting to see how Godzilla vs. Kong does before greenlighting another Kong solo movie. Beyond that, it would probably make more sense story-wise for another Kong sequel to happen after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong. Between 1973 and Godzilla vs. Kong, what else could Kong fight on the island that's bigger than the Skullcrawlers? Since Kong and Skull Island were kept under wraps, it would be easier for him to leave the island after the events of Godzilla vs. Kong anyway.

Solid points there, can’t argue with that.

It actually didn’t.

Make sure your information is accurate before making bold claims.

Kong
Domestic: $168,052,812
Opening Weekend: $61,025,472
Foregin: $398,600,000

Godzilla:
Domestic: $200,676,069
Opening Weekend: $93,188,384
Foreign: $328,400,000

And you need to look at things from multiple angles...only Sith's deal in absolutes.

Godzilla beat Kong Domestically and had a better opening weekend. Yes Kong beat Big G in the foreign market but that was before Legendary got bought out.

And if we wanna get to the nitty gritty, the Godzilla franchise is way more lucrative than the Kong franchise.

I mean there are 34 Godzilla films that have been produced with more in production both in Japan and the US.

Your a Big G fan and I'm a Kong fan. I don't want to fight.

Kong: Skull Island, 566.7 million USD
Godzilla, 529.1 million USD

You can't change the facts.

King Kong isn't really a series the same way Godzilla is. Godzilla is the James Bond of Kaiju franchises.

Thank You.

Speaking of which...look at this new statue they just revealed in Tokyo

I watched the 1976 remake on Blu-Ray recently. One of my favorite movies and a lot better than Kong: Skull Island. I'm just sad that Kong didn't fight fighter jets like in the poster

Godzilla is a better more popular character. That’s why:cwink: as others have stated. Kong is only popular for one story and one story alone, him climbing the building to get shot. Godzilla has plenty of stories. The reason skull Island was made was to build up the gvk remake. Still a great movie tho

I’d argue that the 1933 King Kong film is better than any Godzilla film. It’s a masterpiece.

My favorite monster film of all-time still is the original Gojira. King Kong has great movies, but none have touched that movie's greatness IMO.

King Kong '33 is one of my top 5 favorite movies. It's a masterclass of entertainment.

Godzilla 54 definitly beats Kong. The underlying message and the destruction godzilla causes is definitly amazing. I love Kong but his movie is just a beauty and the beast type story that ends with him getting shot. It's tragic which is great

But that’s it. The human characters are nowhere near as compelling as the Kong characters. There’s aren’t any memorable ones on the level of Anne Darrow or Carl Denham. Kong is also more sympathetic which makes him more than just a “monster”. Godzilla has no personality, he is literally there to destroy.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Godzilla 1954 a lot, but it’s nowhere close to King Kong 1933 in terms of an overall film.

Godzilla is not supposed to do more than destroy. Godzilla is a symbol and message. He's not supposed to be layered in the way Kong is. Godzilla is nature's revenge for the suffering caused by war and atomic weapons, and a warning of our eventual destruction if we don't change course. Like an above post says, Kong is supposed to be tragic in a beauty and the beast kind of way. So he needs to be more sympathetic as an individual character. But I find the subtext and overall message of Gojira to be stronger. The film just resonates with me a lot more.

Nah buddy. Godzilla has a personality. He is meant to be the mistakes of man and an unstoppable force. Sometimes he destroys the world ending threat and other times he destroys cities to remind the world he is in charge . He is far from just a city destroying monster. Also no one cares about human characters in a big monster movie. It’s sll about the monster and the message it sends the viewer and Godzilla’s message is better than probably any monster movie ever.

Well you’re wrong about people not caring. The very best movies make you care about both characters and monster. You think Alien or Aliens would be half as good if we only cared to watch the xenonorph and didn’t care about Ripley? Come on.

The reason people still remember the characters from Kong is because we care. One of the reasons why the first Jurassic Park is still the best is because we love those characters.

Godzilla 1954 is a better movie in the sense that it made a giant monster symbolize Japan's fear of the atomic bomb and treated it as an actual tragic disaster.

Character wise, yeah sure, Kong may have the stronger characters, but just because it's better in one aspect, doesnt mean it's better than all of them.

I very much cared about the human characters in Gojira.

I loved Serizawa and the professor, but I guess it's a matter of opinion.

Gojira is still a very strong movie regardless of the characters, which I think is what DarkKnight is failing to understand.

I’m not failing to understand anything, and I’ve mentioned that I like the film a lot. But my opinion is that King Kong 1933 is stronger because of those added aspects I mentioned. Godzilla works very well but is mostly remembered solely for Godzilla and his attack at the end of the film. Most don’t remember the actual plot of the film. King Kong is iconic in all aspects including its plot and characters. Let’s just agree to disagree at this point.
