Krrish (the first big budget indian superhero film)

Alot of overeaction going on in here.

They movie isn't made for your modern, western sensibilities. It's made for the common indian man who earns less in a month than you do in day. He who goes to the cinema to escape his reality and be entertained. Sure Bollywood movies defy logic - come on, a movie where the break out into a song anytime/anyplace? You want reality go watch a dimunitive superspy battle baddies and outrun missile stikes or a group of American cruise passenger fight for their survival with only the non-caucasians being the casualties. Yes my friends, that is reality. :P

I was hearing the same sort of remarks about Hong Kong movies ten years ago...back when one could still see flicks like SWORDSMAN 2 and FONG SAI-YUK in film festivals.

Narnia and Lord of the Rings aren't "reality", but they don't have mullets and Golden Girls-style shoulder pads and sequins.

Admittedly as much as bollywood movies suck... that's what so much of the public wants over there so that's how it functions... much like how crappy WB or american soap ops continue to keep going on because of stupid teen and emo people who love them so much. different strokes for different folks, get with the program.

And people on here who say Indian movies are ridiculous, Bollywood is not fully representative of Indian cinema... sadly these guys though have the big money and shell out this sort of crap to overseas Indians... bollywood represents about 60%, which is barely a majority of Indian cinema.

There is damn good Indian cinema, like absolutely terrific stuff that beats the living **** out of any other form of cinema out there... sadly it's long gone but there are still solid films made to this date which represent the remaining 40% and this proportion is changing... back in the 80s and 90s, all it was consistently was bollywood representing about 90% of what's out there... the proportion thankfully is going down with respectable and great filmmakers coming in.

Check out the cinema of Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Shekar Kapur, early Kehtan Mehta (Sardar and Holi), Dev Benegal, Shyam Benegal, Govind Nihalani (one of my favorite filmmakers ever), early Vidhu Vinod Chopra with Parinda, early RGV cinema with Satya (which is just a master classic)... there are plenty of solid directors out there.

The other problem in India is that so many good films that do come out are FORCED to have songs... think of it this way, half the financiers in India are like Jon Peters, so they put in certain requirements and filmmakers have to abide by them or else they get screwed... it's the reason why solid films like Satya and Hera Pheri had to have lame ass songs.

bollywood filmmakers who've been trying to change the system for decades are still stuck with these same financiers who call for songs in their films, hence the recent industralized status of Indian Cinema is helping big time... ala Fox coming in, Sony, WB now... Marvel studios gave off a flagship cartoon of the future the WOLVERINE cartoon series to a bollywood animation company because it's finally reached industry/studio backing... so things are definitely getting better, it's just going to be a slow and painful process but thankfully it is happening.

That said, real and true Indian cinema will never get exposure to the world because the greatest films made in this country don't get screened due to government censorship and of course Corruption and Bribes given to film committees to send other **** films instead to festivals.

That is so true. I was on vacation a few weeks ago and I saw a soap opera and holy crap. It was like, why not just pull out the video tape, wipe your ass with it and then broadcast it.

Ironically, I can only see this as a bad thing, after witnessing Hollywood's pasteurization of local industries in Hong Kong and Korea.

As for the songs, you must be aware that Bollywood's music and film industry are joined like Siamese twins...just try to find a pop concert or music video from India that doesn't consist of lip-syncing stars or film clips?

Oh I know that completely... but there have been several films out of late that have no songs... where directors who want nothing to do with songs are doing things finally their way

and even when the film industry is so connected to music... often times in several films (even in arthouse-commercial middle of the road films) the songs will play in the background

it is a step thankfully

LOL! Inian movies are so ridicolous!
I could conclude the same about Hollywood productions by watching movies like "Freddy Got Fingered", "White Chicks", "From Justin to Kelly", "Battlefield Earth" etc

cinemaman you really have no idea of what you're talking about do you?

sure many of them are crap... i'd say even a majority of them bordering on say what 60-65%... till you actually see some of the stuff that counts and beats the living **** out of several other international productions... keep a lid on it

WRONG!!!

Seriously cinemaman , don't draw conclusions on things you don't know.
Not all bollywood movies are song and dance and love numbers. There are also great indian movies out so to generalise them as crap is something that is really lame and stupid.

I know you come from russia and i could very well say the same thing about russian movies.
That all russian movies are crap. But you kno why i don't say it.Cause i know that there are also good russian movies out there , such as Nightwatch and Russian Ark.
These movies are what the international public sees .

What the international public sees about Bollywood movies are those love and dance songs. But there are also far greater movies , such as the APU trilogy.
Don't act like the world revolves just around hollywood or for that matter western movies.

ANyways back to the topic.
Has anyone here seen Koi Mil Gaya ? I'm very skeptical about watching VFX movies of India ever since i watched that movie with Anil Kapoor where he bullet time kicks some thugs. It was a political movie. So inappropriate
Are those VFX good in Koi Mil Gaya ? Or for that matter is Koi Mil Gaya Good
I mean are we talking high quality VFX such as SW , Matrix or LOTR of more stylised like Casshern ?

But the fact remains, there are good movies and bad movies. This one looks bad.
