BvS Larry Fong is the cinematographer!

You aren't wrong!

Less pale and more like they are from the Schumacher Batman films. It's all so artificial looking. The setting should be something that resembles the real world.

Everything with Fong looks very "contained" but I kind of loved that about Watchmen. Visually it's very dream like and ethereal and I love that about his work. He does use a lot of matte backgrounds for his scenery shots but it works for this film.
Those backgrounds are what shrink the scale of this film. It's why people are underwhelmed. Re-watch the Dark Knight trailer and look at how big the world looks compared to this. This is a return to the almost stage play feel to Batman Returns or the stylized, claustrophobic falseness of Schumacher's films.

Compare the cinematography to MOS. Why are you going back to TDK?

Gotham is not New York neither Chicago :funny: Neither Metropolis. If I wanted those I would watch Discovery Channel. I want something different and Fong delivered.

Also loved the new aestethic and liked what was done in MOS too. This LOOKS LIKE GOTHAM!!!

Underwhelmed? who? All twitter exploded with the majority overly great comments eventhought it was first leaked in Lq. The only ones were the ones that jump into conclussions with a leaked cellphone quality video or the marvel fanboys that want it to look TV-show like or Guardians of the Galaxy like.... No thanks :word:

And his neck is too small, hair line is trying to run away.
I faced palm too much about the previous comment above yours that you responded. :funny:

Doesn't know that Cavill's hair made the head bigger, and now compared to buzz cut with Zod. I mean that's just extreme and silly complain and no I don't see it the way he sees it. That shoot looked really good to me, I don't need to scrutinize everything and pause it looking for mistakes. And in motion looked glorious with all the fight. But ya know different tastes and a little of just complaining for the sake of it. You know it's Snyder... they have to. :funny:

I don't think anyone can imagine on how happy I really am over this improvement.lol

Needless to say, my distaste for Man of Steel's color filters has been a well documented issue within these boards.

Heck, I had pretty much given up all hope that we'd be getting normal/bright colors when every picture (sans Wonder Woman's and Batman's profile shot) were so bleak and nearly (or entirely) colorless.

It's funny how some just that know that the things around the statue were CGI due to set pics, and then compairing it to a videogame  just because they already have the mind pointed in believe in that, no matter if those shots looked REAL, even if some just can't deal with it. That's a shame.

By the way NICE CINEMATOGRAPHY LARRY!! HANDS DOWN!!!

I didn't dislike the MOS look, but Fong's involvement gives all this a decidedly large step up.

I mentioned this in the General Board as well, but I wonder what Fong was exactly talking about when he said on Twitter awhile back that they wouldn't abandon the visual style that "Man of Steel" had incorporated.

I mean from the looks of the trailer, it looks like they completely pulled a 180 since I saw nothing that reminded me about how Man of Steel was shot and presented (shaky cameras, colors severely drained).

Prepare for the rest of the movie to be devoid of color and be shot with handheld cameras.

Wow seeing thsi gif on loop they did a pretty bad job of compositing those heads. Cavill's in particular is way too big for most of that shot.

The only reason it looks "bad" is that it is on a loop and slowed and each frame is being scrutinized. At normal speed and seeing it as intended, it looks great.
In the theater it was awesome.

If you take "real" slow motion footage of say, cheetahs running and view it in a loop it will also look "fake"because of the frame rate and speed of the action.

In MOS I think they also exaggerated/enhanced the images so we could see what was happening. I don't mind it at all.

Larry Fong confirm here's a 300 easter egg (003 inverted) in the "rocket". Highlighting how Leonidas make Jerges bleed. Nice!!! :D

You thought that was a glimpse of what the movie would look like? Wrong!
They're the only scenes they shot like that, exclusively for the trailer. :o

I thought the trailer was visually arresting. Find it interesting that MOS took it's setting and cues from Nolan's more expansive real world take in TDK trilogy ...

But Batman v Superman visually seems to be more in tune with the more stylized theatrical settings of Batman 89, Batman Returns, 300, Watchmen, and Cap FA. Yet unlike those films that felt more self contained in their surroundings, this still keeps elements of a living breathing world around them.

Evident in beautiful shots like Batman perched on a tower with a sniper rifle. The world still feels real and expansive. Unlike say a Batman Returns.

The shot of night time Metropolis with the Superman statue is gorgeous. It looks like a utopia, and I even spy memorial building lights ala 9/11 WTC, probably to honor the fallen buildings and loss of lives from the Kryptonian Attack led by Zod in MOS. Great details of continuity.

I'd like to see in greater detail panoramic shots of Snyder's dark, gritty, rainy, polluted dystopia Gotham City. Can't wait to see more of the cruel, excessively violent Miller esque take from Snyder's Batman.

Some of those stills in the teaser trailer alone are so iconic. Both in homage to source material and originality. Puts the cinematography from the Marvel Studio films to shame.

Superman shouldering the nuke / satellite
Armed militia bowing to Kal El
Reaching up to God like Superman in the sun
Crowd engulfing Superman, the savior
Bruce raging staring at The Bat
Batman perched with rifle
Batman walking toward camera

The whole point of view shots between the two icons before face off.

Truly epic stuff. And we are just scratching the surface. I haven't been this pumped for a comic book movie since TDK's amazing teaser in winter 2007.

Well said. I agree with literally everything.

How big is the budget for BvS? 200 mil. tops? And they have all the time in the world to get things right in the editing room... I cannot imagine this looking anything other than outstanding.

I find it funny that some jumped into conclussions specially on twitter when the trailer leaked and then backtracked when it was posted in HD. Glad to see overly possitive reaction and liking BvS cinematography, well except some wanting to look like a Marvel Studios movie :funny:

Can't get enough of those epic shoots the TEASER has :wow:

Tell me, now when some time has passed, what is the overall reaction to the trailer? Is it really positive?

I do not dare to read comments again, as they really pissed me off the last time.
