I saw Hanna this weekend. Great film if you like girl assassin movies. It also had a surprising amount of humor which really worked to counter all the seriousness. I hope Snyder is taking notes. It was like Bourne but funnier and with a girl.
I agree with all of the ones DF mentioned. Those guys are stellar. And I'd add [...] Bruno Delbonnel (Amelie, Across the Universe, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince)
I totally agree with you about him clashing with Snyder's "realistic" intent, tbh. I just couldn't resist listing him because he's my #1 fave. And yes, he needs to do more big-budget Hollywood stuff. HBP was by far the most gorgeous-looking Potter flick, imo.As visually striking and layered a Delbonnel-shot Superman would be, it wouldn't be the kind of 'realistic' Superman Snyder would go for. But either way, it would look incredible. I'm shocked he's not getting more offers from U.S. productions.
Yeah, I just saw Hanna yesterday, and while there were several things I loved about it, the cinematography was actually my favorite part. I'd be psyched if he got this gig.PERFECT!!! i LOVED Sunshine and Hanna looks pretty awesome too.
Haha, I haven't thought of that show in quite some time. I used to LOVE it. Ah, memories.
Hanna seemed much more like Bourne than Dark Angel to me.
Hey, I've got one...Mauro Fiore (Avatar).t:
He's one that I listed as well. But as I said, he's the go-to DP for Terrence Malick and Alfonso Cuaron, and they both have projects set to come out next year, so I'm not sure he'll be available. I guess Malick's project is already in post-production so that shouldn't be a problem, but Cuaron's Gravity is currently in pre-production, so that could conflict. What about Emmanuel Lubezki, who did the cinematography for Children of Men?
That film was amazingly shot and had that very real look to it.
The cinematography of Children of Men was my favorite aspect of the film.
Yeah, but I personally HATED the look of the Star Wars Prequels. That look you call "surreal" is the same look I call "video game-y," and it's exactly what I hope we're avoiding with this change in DPs.
yeah...if this were a reboot after a successful run (ala how they'll undoubtedly reboot Batman after Nolan's run) then i wouldn't mind seeing a stylized Superman, but this one HAS to resonate with the general audience...so in that sense it HAS to look more realistic than any of Snyder's other movies, including Dawn of the Dead.I kinda agree that Zack and Fong's style are beautiful, but detached and 'video gamey'.
Because I don't think that's necessarily Snyder's "style," and as much as I'm not a fan of the guy, I think it's selling him short to suggest that his style can be summed up in that particular look. That's merely the look of his films when he works with Fong. Dawn of the Dead and that animated movie he did had very different looks from that. And I'm confident that Superman can look different as well, without sacrificing Snyder's personal touch.I understand pulling back a bit, but why would Nolan hire Snyder and not let him use his style? You might aswell find someone else.
