moribito, the way they draw food on this show is amazing, it always make me hungry.

Yeah, One Piece is my current favorite anime. Where an anime like DBZ can push back story to focus on the fighting, or where others try to delve too deep and make meaning in a story where there is none and end up with a jumbled melodramatic mess, One Piece keeps it's focus and balance. It's about adventure pure and simple. The story and fighting both have their place and are well done, but it's that sense of the Straw Hat crew seeking adventure, and...well it's going to sound corny if I keep saying things like that lol. The good thing is that it keeps getting better and better. Where a lot of animes and mangas start out strong and run out of stamina over time, One Piece is 500+ manga's strong (and only half way over) and still getting better.

I'd recommend the series to anyone that likes animes in that action adventure vein. The only thing I won't recommend is the US dubs. I heard they redid them so I can't speak on the newer ones. However the older ones were among the worst bad dub offenders I've seen.

Like actually drawing over Sanji's cigarettes with lollipops, and then making it part of his personality that he's a candy freak. Editing out Crocodile's cigar and making it look like he just likes to have a huge ass teeth baring grin for no reason. Or cutting out a huge ass party showing what a fun loving guy Shanks is, and instead ending the episode with him staring Mihawk down like a villain. Stuff like that, plus the voice cast was awful, and the dialogue was butchered. It's actually what put me off of One Piece at first thinking it was a bad show, it wasn't until I saw ppl liking it on here that I gave it another chance and ended up loving it.

One Piece kind of reminds me of Dragon Ball, when it was about adventure and finding the balls, but then it became more about the fighting and battles. One Piece has a great balance and great character development. I have heard OP referred to as the spiritual successor to DB, but really it is it's superior in every way.

One Piece 462
Finally the war begins.. the flashbacks were getting annoying. Not that a little back story into characters is bad but still I thought the anime went a little too far in milking them.

Since we keep mentioning One Piece and DB together, the author's actually did a few tie ins inbetween the two as well. One where the Straw Hat crew and Dragon Ball crew are in an alternate reality, it's a quick and funny short the length of a regular manga. Then there's another that I haven't read yet, but it's supposed to be a Shounen Jump cross over special where Goku and Luffy fight the lightning bad guy from One Piece (if I remember right his name was En el or something like that). So the author's do have a lot of respect for eachother.

I agree tho, One Piece definitely has that sense of adventure that the original DB had (and again agree it's superior in every way to it as well). Where Naruto and Bleach seem to be eager to take up the mantle of DBZ.

Speaking of long time manga's, also still reading Detective Conan. It's odd how two of the longest running manga's that will still be going on long after some of the current popular favorites finish stay that damn entertaining. Tho I do wish Detective Conan would get back in focus and move it's story forward a bit again. It's been stuck in the independant storylines (and a new European arc coming up) for far too long. I mean they're good, but DC is at it's best when Conan's clashing heads with the Black Organization.

I finished Darker Than Black recently. I had been wanting more exploration of the world of the show, and last few episodes provided that for a good conclusion. Which is not to say the more self-contained stories weren't entertaining; the series was really good on the whole.

Also watched the first two episodes of Black Lagoon, which is cool so far.

Hunter x Hunter -- Like DBZ in a world more like ours but crap-saccharine.
Ikki Tousen--looking forward to watching the Koichi Ohata-directed third season.

Dragon Ball Z Season Four. Just finished the Mecha Frieza showdown ep.

Just started Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, the first season. Seems cookie-cutter (if fun) so far but shows a lot of promise.

Mnemosyne. So far I like it but for some reason it puts me in mind of a darker Read or Die and the latter anime has stronger storytelling.

Madlax. Better than El Cazador (sp?) thus far, really starts off with a bang.
