I sure think so. All others kind of pale in compairison. All their songs are great and each of them are different from the next. They're certainly in my top 5 bands of all time.

Naah, they're good and have some good songs, but not even in my top 10.

The Beatles.

I think I respect Zeppelin, more than I really like them. They've got talent, and a few great songs, but somehow I just don't like em that much. Some of the songs kinda drag on, and Plant's vocals can be kinda annoying sometimes.

I'd take Plants whining and moaning over the s*** on the radio today, like Fall Out Boy.

I really don't like Zepplin.
I mean, I gave them an honest try, more than once, at more than one point in my life but I just never really got into them, or even liked them.

Zeppelin used to be my favorite band. I've reverted back to The Rolling Stones, but Zeppelin are undoubtedly still among my favorites. They are legends who broke new ground and whose influence still resonates today.
They are awesome.

Zeppelin's up there, but for my money it's Metallica and The Who.

Led Zeppelin is the best band that ever was and the best band that will ever be.

It's not even fair to include them in lists of great bands because they transcend normal music.
There's everyone else, and then them.
As Robert Plant said,
"It's not that we're number one, it's that we're sO much better than number two."

No band can even come close to comparing to the mind-boggling, impossible Black Magic genius of their energy, songs, musicianship, chemistry as a group and mainly, their production.

The only thing that has approached their genius production is the genius of George Martin with the Beatles, but it's hindered by the fact that none of the Beatles could play as well as anyone in Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin is not a neat band on your iPOD that you groove out to sometimes, Led Zeppelin is a way of life, my religion.

I could write 20 phone books worth of pages of analysis on why, I'm obviously not going to do that.

I will say in closing that there is a weakness, and it is Robert Plant. Admittedly he does some "out there" faerie crap that is definitely an acquired taste, and I would not expect a novice to take to it easily, and, if lyrics are your thing, he has written some laughable lyrics.

But the music, as far as the music, John Bonham is the best drummer that ever lived. It isn't possible to replicate the explosive sex power of his drumming, coupled with Jimmy's genius production.

John Paul Jones does what's perfect for the songs, in an often interesting way, but he is a mortal...his note choices are sometimes magical, but there's nothing there that others haven't done as well.

But Jimmy Page, Jimmy Page is God. I think of his solos as a separate member of the band, like, the second, superior singer in the group.
His guitar speaks in ways more expressive than any human voice could, every note a word.....snarling, lilting, sexy, scary, slimy, goofy, nefarious, innocent, destructive, life-affirming, enlightened, transcendent, Earthy, wicked, erotic, Satanic, happy, Holy, shimmering, scratching, whimpering, squealing, howling,.....he is not human and no guitarist, from the soulful old Blues giants to the lightning fast technique monsters of the 80's/present, has ever come close to creating what he has shaped with his fingers.

The scrambling, rambling madness and blinding siren call of his gold, copper, silver, turquoise, red, green, laser-white and hell-black notes is where I want to live.

As much as I love them, the honor goes to The Beatles and then The Rolling Stones since they were even more influential. however, Zeppelin is definatly in the top five for me (and probally a majority of other people). I mean, wo hasn't heard at least on of their songs before?

Being influential has nothing to do with being the best band.
Blink 182 has probably had more of an influence on music today than Led Zeppelin. :o

Led Zeppelin is an astonishing band, with songs that, like Scream mentioned, transcends music itself.

But, personally, even though I can full appreciate their music as art, preference states The Beatles at the forefront, along with The Kinks and even The Animals.

And of course, The Small Faces, which, without Steve Marriot, there possibly wouldn't have been a Robert Plant, who was heavily influenced by Marriot's bluesy vocals.

No...All Zepplins songs sound the same. They're like Godsmack, but from the 70's.

Explosive, iron-clad proof that you don't know what you're talking about.
That was one of the gripes of the idiotic music press back in the day, that they never delivered the same sound.

In fact, to say that their songs all sound the same is simply preposterous as they, like the Beatles, and Queen, are one of the few bands that can play anything

"Hot Dog" is honky-tonk electric country
"The Rain Song" actually sounds just like elevator Muzak until the guitars kick in big at the end.
"Carouselambra" is techno -Disco
"The Crunge" is James Brown Funk with mellow synth added in.
"Darlene" is like Avant Southern Rock
The overplayed "D'yer Mak'r" is reggae-tinged
From pounding cave man 4/4 beats to crazy-ass time signatures that musical wizards have to study to get right.

They had mountain-shearing straight forward, Blues-oriented Power Rock, like a thinking man's Black Sabbath, and delicate acoustic instrumentals.
They did Proto-Punk, New Wave, mild, cheezy crooning stuff like "I'm Gonna Crawl".
They did Folk, Folk-Rock, elaborate guitar orchestral compositions...Boogie Woogie, Rock-a-Billy, plain old Blues, and even noise/experimental music as well as all of the Moroccan-influenced stuff.

Their influences were as disparate as Elvis, the Damned, Bert Jansch, Wagner, Joni Mitchel, Joan Baez, B.B. King, The Rolling Stones and the Who, classicla music, ethnic musics, ancient Celtic stuff and Glen Miller.

Mandolins, theremins, hurdy gurdys, moog synthesizers, steel drum sounds in electronically modified drums, kettle drums, violin bows, pedal steel guitar, mellotrons, violin bows, standard tunings, open tunings, invented tunings

Say whatever you want about 'em, but as for "all their songs sound alike", that's like saying 2+2=13. It can only mean that you're not familiar with their albums.

"Rock and Roll" sounds nothing, NOTHING like Kashmir sounds nothing like "Dancin' Days" sounds nothing like "Southbound Suarez" sounds nothing like "Since I've Been Loving You" sounds nothing like "Bron-Yr-Aur" sounds ABsolutely nothing like "Communication Breakdown".

Absurd.

Damn Wilhelm, DAMN!

Granted that I just started listening to the Zep, I adore them.

I find listening to Zeppelin to be a much more enjoyable experience when I listen to the entire album at once... I and II are my favs.

I love Zeppelin, beautiful music, awesome sound, I loved the band. They are really an amazing band, in alot of ways. BUT I don't think they can be considered "the best band ever". To be honest I don't think that any band can be labeled "the best band ever" and one never will be. But I still totally love Led Zeppelin, and I would definetely say one of my favorite bands of all time.
