The Dark Knight Ledger's 'possible' nomination clip...

Which Joker scene should be played in a possible posthumous nomination for Ledger?

  • The "Why So Serious" speech...

  • Arriving at the party and threatening the guests...

  • Walking around Rachel/Scarred wife story...

  • Interrogation scene: "They're only as good as the world allows them to be"...

  • Sitting in the interrogation room floor: "You can't savour all the... little emotions."...

  • The "This City deserves a better class of criminal" scene...

  • Conversation with Dent: "You know the thing about chaos... it's fair."...

  • His final speech while he's hanging up: "Madness, as you know, is like gravity..."

  • Other...

You know what would of been great if he had still been alive to "Hopefully" get a nomination and he did get nominated and Jack Nicholson would of presented the award to him. How Iconic and Awesome of a moment would that have been?

Ugh...don't. That would have been too awesome! :csad:

I disagree, I personally think that if Depp can get nominated for Sparrow, Ledger at least deserves a nomination as well.

What? Ledger was nominated for Sparrow, gotta check that out because I would remember something like that, but if he was, the Ledger of course has to receive a nomination BY LAW.

I'd like to see his daughter accept the award for him if he wins. I think that would be pretty powerful to see. Jack would be pretty cool though. I just think his daughter would be a better choice.

That's a nice idea actually.

Thinking about it, I realized the Academy won't use the hospital bedside scene because Two Face is too graphic.

i'd like to see (if it happens of course) the hospital conversation with dent...up to the point where he steadies the gun in harvey's hand to his forehead and goes "Ooooh now we're talking" that whole conversation was great. But...i don't think a near homicidal/suicidal maniac scene would be shown after all.
the Gordon and Joker interrogation scene before bats roughs him up.

Ledger's entrance in that scene is one of the best I have ever seen.

You are responsible for heinous terrorists acts which have had, among their consequences, the hideous and agonising disfigurement of the man before you, and the death of his lover. How do you approach him?

(Meekly) "Hiiiii..."

I could only hope that this is what happens!

I would pick the interrogation scene (the dialogue, not the beating) not just because it isn't (as people have pointed out re: other scenes) too potentially graphic or upsetting, or because it also has Batman in it so the nemesis relationship angle is in place, but because it's brilliantly written and interpreted, and demonstrates that this acting job has great depth and complexity, as it is perfect not only in the flamboyant but in the more controlled moments.

If the universe is just and Ledger wins, my bet would be that his father would collect the award (since he seemed to assume a sort of spokesman role in the aftermath of his death), or possibly Christopher Nolan on behalf of his family. Matilda's mom seems to be shielding her from the limelight and so I would doubt she'd even be at the ceremony.

I love the interrogation scene, and think that that would be the best representation of Heath's Joker, as we sort of get a real view into his head, not like the half-truths and lies he fed Dent in the hospital.

I agree: this is perhaps the only point in the movie where he is as sincere as he can be. He's leveling with Batman. In the hospital, to an extent he's giving Dent what Dent needs in order to despair: it's not, as many seem to think, the Joker's creed (he's more a nihilist than an anarchist, and frankly he's a pretty good schemer for a man without plans).

When he's telling gamble about his father. His eyes while he's thinking of a story are amazing.

Interrogation room. Easy. That is simply one of the best scenes I have seen in any film ever.

i agree because for an oscar nomination clip of the joker we need to see two face

id use the scene where he explains his scars to Rachel...the interrogation scene is solid but Bales batman voice detracts from the scene (to me it does a bit)....the beauty of the Rachel scene is that its all Joker dialog with some nice camerawork.

i think the rachel scene should be used. It's those things that Ledger did, like trying to get rachel's attention. those subtle "hey" or "look at me" are very disturbing, and it's not hyperbole. It was a well done scene all together.

I remember seeing that one and.. do you guys notice if Joker pricks himself with the knife while struggling a bit with Rachel..?

I say they use the mob scene or the burning money scene

Good thread. If I were to pick my favorite Joker bit, it would be his exit from Dent's room and, subsequently, the hospital. Just the little nuance of the hand soap dispenser and his walk gets me on every level. However, I have to vote based on what best suits an Oscar broadcast, and that would either be the interrogation or the upside down speech. I'm going with interrogation, but they're equally important in my view.

I love the hospital. There's a mall near where my mom lives that has these hand sanitizer dispensers all over the place (same ones, same brand) and when I visit I always want to use them, as a sort of homage. That whole scene is great for physical acting (playing with the detonator, the purring HIIIII, like some kind of sexy nurse in a James Bond movie: roll over now, Mr. Bond). And all that is improvised, all those little gestures, so it really is a good indication of the nuances of the performance. But the Oscar clip tends to involve a lot of talking; there still seems to be a belief that a character is largely established by what he or she says.

The best choice would be Batman beating down the Joker in the interrogation room, and the Joker just ****ing with Batman, first by taunting him, then by laughing. That final punch and the Joker's successive laugh is the best on-screen Joker moment ever, and one of the greatest on-screen villain moments of all time.
