Lee Bermejo and Brian Azzarello's Joker Graphic Novel

For the third time reading it, I finally got the "Who wants some rabbit?" joke.

Yea I didn't get that untill the second time. I might have to do that one next time I owe someone money! :D

ok, the rabbit joke was f***ing Hilarious! i first saw it when ign did those preview pages, but i didn't get it, it wasn't till i actually got the book and took a longer look at it that it made sense. i was reading it in the car and started laughing and my friend was like wtf?

i love croc's reaction to the rabbit. he wants to be pissed but he can't. he is the one guy who seems to find the joker genuinely funny most of the time.

I wasn't all that impressed. It was okay, I guess. The art is nice enough, but the story is very standard stuff, and there's just nothing new or terribly interesting here. I don't care about Jonny Frost, so it's hard to see him as an interesting character.

I think maybe people are misinterpreting the rape sequence, or at least, I think there's another possible meaning. It's possible that he didn't rape Jonny's wife to hurt Jonny. It's possible that he did it as a favor to Jonny because of what she tried to do to him. He was trying to make them even for when Jonny saved his life. Jonny obviously didn't feel the same, but...

I just finished this, and I have to say I agree with the Guard's assesment. Okay read but nothing groundbreaking. The only exception I can think of is that this is the first time Joker outright rapes someone (Killing Joke has been pretty debated over whether he raped Babs or not). But there was no new great insights in the Joker's character. We get it, he's violent and thinks death is a punch line yada yada yada. I also found the narrative style a little confusing at times.

I did love the art though. Especially the last few panels when Bats shows up. Very dark and moody.

First time a saw it, didn't understand it; half a minute later, I understood and pissed my pants laughing so hard. :lmao:

Yeah, the third time reading it, I just stared at that panel for a while until I looked closer... (no homo) Then I got it.

I don't think Jonny ever told him about his wife and their problems. I thought Joker raped her and told Jonny "That makes us even, no?" due to the fact that Joker finds out that Two Face had talked to Jonny, and Jonny never told Joker about it.

Overall, it reads like fanfiction. Someone who knows the basics about The Joker, who's always wanted to write about The Joker, but who doesn't have much to say or show beyond how evil he is, which...we already knew. If Jonny Frost was more interesting, fleshed out, and relatable at all, this would have been an appropriate graphic novel. As it is, it feels like a "dream project" that's not terribly satisying.

^ I gotta agree with Guard and Dr. Watson. I can't quite point the finger as to why but so much of this story seemed familiar to me that it ultimately bothered me. Too much of it felt "been there done that" the art was cool though but to be honest I wish I hadn't bought this. Lex Luthor: Man of Steel was a better read.

I was really apalled by what Joker did to the old couple. It was so random, with no motive except for his amusement. And Johny just sat there and let it happen.

I just bought this, and I feel it's a nice addition to my limited collection. It definetely has reread value.

When the Joker was talking to thin air, I wondered if maybe he was talking to god or satan- but of course he was talking to batman.

Also, anything think that Johnny looked a bit like Christian Slater? Especially the closeup when Johnny says "I do. Jonny does."

Coudln't agree with you more. It was cheaper, too. :yay:

I thought Jonny looked a bit like The Joker. Figured they'd do something with that...and then they didn't.

Yea when all them pages were released early I thought I figured it. I noticed Jonny was really praising Joker at the start, saying he wanted to be like him. So I thought at the end Joker would die and Jonny would take over his mantle sorta thing. Like it would show Joker as a force, not a person. Or maybe even like a disease as he was alluded to on the very first page.

can you please point me in the direction of some batman/joker fanfiction that is this good?

Wasn't that good and thats about all there is to it.

Oh so there was nothing innovative about Joker and Batmans relationship? When was the last time you see Joker talking to himself as though Batman was watching him, then he claims Batman hasn't stopped him because he is doing his "dirty work". Then to try and get his attention his plays russian roulette. Na nothing innovative about that. :whatever:

Sigh...

"It reads like fanfiction" means that it reads like someone who just wanted to write a story about Joker and Batman and didn't particularly have the most interesting take on the characters, but stuck to something very classic for the most part.

Read some more Batman comics. The "Batman is watching me" element has been done before. The Joker's been talking to himself for years, and obsessed with Batman and Batman's awareness of his activities for years. Nor is the idea that Batman wants the freaks (in particular) Joker to do his dirty work for him a new idea. And the russian roulette, thing? I've seen Two-Face do that basic move about twelve times (this is hyperbole) over the years. Was this a slightly new twist on it? I suppose, but it's not an innovative concept for The Joker himself.

so....

i heard Joker rapes is this?

is this accurate?

still havent bought it yet,

but if that little tidbit is right, it turned me off to it even more....

Joker raping is a total writing/character FAIL.

The art was alot better too. Same with Deathblow.
