Lee Bermejo and Brian Azzarello's Joker Graphic Novel

I'm curious what were some people's expectations from this comic? I had very low expectations and was pleased what were some other people's expectations, specifically with people who felt disappointed with this book.

Well, Joker is such an off the wall character, who's to say what's Joker-like? We all have different ideas. This wasn't in continuity anyway, so it didn't really have to go by what we know/think/assume.

QFT. I mean, why isn't rape Joker like? I would imagen Joker would do absolutely anything to cause someone pain, and he would do anything for a twisted joke. Why is that hard to understand? And don't say "well rape is below the Joker" this is a guy who poisoned a load of kids with dodgy cotton candy and gassed a kindergarten, rape is definitely not below him.

Even Heath Ledger said that his Joker would find aids funny, so imagen Joker spreading aids by raping people's loved ones with aids. :P

LOL. Yea!!

I've just remember something else, in NML Joker was going to massacre a load of orphan babies. So he can kill children and babies but oh no, rape is too low for him! :whatever:

I don't know where people get these ideas that the Joker is "above" or "too good" for anything.

He's not "above" or "too good" for something. That's why we're all obsessed with the character for almost 70 years and that why he's possibly the most dangerous and unpredictable villain of all time. He'll do anything to make a point. ANYTHING.

does anyone have a link to where I could read this online? I want to read it before I decide to buy it or not

From actual comics. Duh. Joker in past times has been portrayed often as loving a sick joke, murdering hundreds of people regardless of age. However, he is almost always vain and egotistic (this trait is still present though unfortunately diluted) to the point where he considers himself the equivelant of an artist. I can see the Laughing Fish Joker killing whoever he damn well pleases, but the point isn't that he has any morality. No, the point is that he considers the usual petty criminals far below him. He is after all the Clown Prince of Crime, and why indulge in raping someone like a mere gutter crim when he could be sparring with Batsy on far more grander terms.

For many this is the ultimate interpretation and people should accept there are different opinions. I accept that people love the skinning raping suicidal Joker, more power to you when reading this book then. But I'll always find that route very forced and two dimensional. Killing babies souynds like a bad joke, which is why the finale of NML (apart from the crippled joke) was a bit of a letdown for me. That and the fact that it just HAD to be the Joker, give another villain the damn spotlight for once DC!

Also no way did he rapes Babs. The fact that no one has mentioned it in the comics is near proof.

You make some good points man, perhaps some interps of the Joker would find rape below him. But that is why, for me at least, the Joker is the greatest villain in any medium. There is NO set mould for Joker, one interp he could be a murdering artiste, another a nihilistic murdering scum bag. And for the context of this particular Joker and story raping Jonnys wife was necessary, he raped her because he felt Jonny raped his trust. But the things that ALL Jokers have in common is this, if he has a way of causing someone pain and he finds it funny he will do it, no matter what it is.

Thanks man, I agree. The reason why the Joker's great is his many interpretations and just how different he can be in each story. And I'm really glad in Joker he retains his humour and is still very funny.

I too believe that Joker think sas himself as above your average criminal. Hell, look at TDK. If you've seen the BTAS episode called "Joker's Favor" he looks in the man's wallet and the man says, "Please, take what you want!"

And Joker merely resonds, "Please. Don't insult me!"

That right there all in one line is how I believe why the Joker think he's above everyone else. He doesn't care about money. Money is for the common thief.

it wasn't long enough, in the end i just wanted to read more but it was still good
i just wish it were at least a good 170 pages

got it yesterday and i like it a lot. but i still dont get the rabbit joke

Look at Joker's hand and see what his holding, then imagen a rabbit in the pants and think what Joker is holding.

Thanks. We share the same views on comics. Everyone has a view of what the Joker can or can't do. That's why people should read my post more clearly.

In context it fits perfectly, but I don't think it's very Joker like.

In my classic (call it conservative) view of the Joker, it's not something he'd do. Some people in the newer pill popping Joker crowd might feel different. I don't care. That's your opinion.

There is no definitive Joker-like actions. Only in the fan's minds.

Your right Bubba, there is no definitive Joker like actions. But answer me this, you didn't like TDKR or NML Joker then? Because they are much, much worse or "less conservative" than this Joker.

It took me my third read to figure it out. Look closely towards his mid-section and he's holding the bottoms of his pockets out and then... I think you'll get it.
