Lee Bermejo and Brian Azzarello's Joker Graphic Novel

I've read it.

I like it for the most part.

I wish there was more to it, I guess. I love the art however.

I felt the same way.

When Joker was crying, was that Quinn he ways crying into? And what was the deal with him crying?

Joker is mentally unstable but alot of writers don't like to go to such emotions such as *gasp* The fearsome Joker himself crying *gasp*. Quinn was the blonde he was crying to, and he was crying partly because poor Two-face didn't pick up the phone. :P Among other things.

Bermejo:
The crying scene is one of my favorites. Basically, the Joker is just all over the map emotionally. He has CRAZY swings and that scene was just a way to show that he doesn't always swing one way. It wasn't necessarily to show any vulnerability but if that's what people take away, cool. I've known a few manic people in my life, both depressant and other forms, and they all seem to be very unpredictable with the way their emotions will manifest. Joker's the extreme of this in my opinion.

When Joker was crying it really reminded me of Frank Booth who would break down into a child and cry uncontrollably.

What was in the suitcase?

When he opened it, his face was glowing (like in Pulp Fiction)

I agree with both of you, this book is subtlety deep. It is innovative in the way that it shows that Joker ISN'T a fun character, a likeable villain. Yea he is a murderer and sick, but in 99% of his stories he comes across as likeable. In this he isn't, it shows that he is truly a despicable person who in reality, no one would want nothing to do with.

Can't agree more.
This is the first time I hated the Joker.

I like The Joker in The Dark Knight, Batman 89, The Killing Joker, The Dark Knight Returns, The Animated Series...you named it...

But in this book, he is just a dick (I like it...sort of...but not really, he should be the Joker for a reason, you like him just a bit even though you hate him, where as in this book I just hated him...but he was funny at times like when he was talking to Dent)

I love Bermejo's idea of Joker being all over the place like that.

I think the broken glass was from the car incident which he kept in his hand to slash two-face.

all is indeed well

oh indeed, the car accident...cool idea.

And glad all is well.

AS for this book:

I just read it tonight and over all liked it.
My favourite part BY FAR!!!! Was Batman's response to why he left his mouth showing:

"TO MOCK YOU"

I love that.

I think Batman is awesome, and Joker is awesome.

When books are mainly based on Batman they are cool, and mainly based on Joker (like this one) cool.

BUT, when the 2 titans clash, man ...stuff just gets epic, seriously.

BATMAN (YING) JOKER (YANG)

Can't have one without the other, and that's what this book made me realize.

^I like how they turned the tables and showed Bats pushing Joker's buttons for once...they are the only two that understand eachother

BTW...It's pretty much confirmed that Batman was letting Joker kill off criminals: when Joker realizes that Bats has broken into his apartment (after he crashes through the window at Harley) he has Jonny drive him away and says "that bastard...he let me." Jonny doesen't know what he's talking about, but we are supposed to. The Clown Prince has been doing Bats and Gordon's dirty work, but now hes used up his usefulness

When I read it, I got the impression he was letting him aswell.

Ya, because we all know if Batman wanted to he could have busted him :)

How do you think Joker threatened Dent?

What do you think he said to him?

I apologize for all the short excited posts.

I litterally just finished reading it lol, and got it on the brain

I thought to myself, maybe Joker would destroy the good side of his face, but he threatened him with that already. So it would have to have been something different.

He would kill one of Two-face's wives internally killing one of them through a severe depression.

Probably the biggest problem I have with this novel right there: The Joker's not half as charming as the Joker should be. Sure, he should maim, murder, steal, destroy...but the reader should love him while doing it. I've always seen it as an artistic statement on the human condition in itself that a character as despicable as the Joker is adored the world over by the masses. Taking that away from the character - or rather, being incapable of putting it in - was a major fail.

I have to strongly strongly strongly disagree. I believe that this was the ***** slap to knock fans of the Joker down a peg or two. It is like someone telling all those people who love Che Guevera that he was a disgusting murderer as well. It is an almost reality check that tells someone, this is a disgusting individual and you shouldn't admire him. It is made clear with Johnny's admiration of the Joker. He wanted to be like him but in the end is back stabbed by the Joker. It is like all the kids in Batman Beyond who wanted to be the Joker but when the real thing came into town they realized he was insane and deeply regreted it.

This book I believe is a great response for all those Joker fans out there who believe that if Joker was real he would be buddy buddy with them. No, the Joker would use them and kill them any chance he got. I see it also as making fun of those people who like to think they are evil but when it really comes down to it they are just cowards in the true face of evil.
