Action-Adventure Legendary/Paramount/Capcoms’ Street Fighter film

like it seems like they might actually care about fidelity to the source material and character lore this time??

like are they going to show akuma selling fruit, which he does for a living?
since this is canon. :tearsofjoy:

Man, the cast unveiling with the character select screen and the Guile theme shows me that they definitely respect the source material, but why cast the way they did?

But hell yeah. Have Gouki Reigns selling the fruit.

Yeah some of the casting decisions (mainly the MAGAts) make me want to just avoid the movie. Especially since those guys aren’t even GOOD actors. If they were I might be able to overlook it but it’s just like, why bring in these losers to taint your movie?

Still… there are some people here that I do really like and are well cast (Koji, Centeneo, Momoa, Liang, Richters and Dastmalchian. The latter particularly excites me because he always delivers interesting performances and it will be cool to finally see him in a central villain role.

So I guess we’ll see. Right now I think I have more faith in this than the MK sequel, since we already have one awful movie in that series and they are just trying to course correct after making a mess. At least this one is starting fresh. I just hope this movie takes advantage of the talent it has on hand and doesn’t waste too much time on the mediocre actors they put in a few other key roles. Hopefully those people just show up, fight a bit and leave while allowing the others to do the real work.

Okay, I have to admit, despite some of the casting, I do have just the tiniest twinge of what you would probably call excitement for this film based on what’s come out so far. Just a twinge.
Ken and Chun-Li look good there! Chun-Li here is already miles past whatever Legend of Chun-Li tried. If you've never seen that movie...don't.

Just to really hammer home how bad this movie is, my brother, who is a little more chill when it comes to the media he consumes and isn’t as picky, he watched it and thought it was absolutely terrible. If even someone who doesn’t have super high film standards dislikes your movie, you’ve really messed up.

Another example of how lax his film tastes are and how not very keyed into the dudebro, incel, alt-right, manosphere MAGA culture he is, we went to see Captain Marvel when it came out and he loved it, especially Carol as a character and the arc she goes through in the film, and had no idea about any of the anti-Brie Larson drama going on at that time. During the entire ending part where she is just wrecking shop on all of the Kree and did something cool, he hollered and cheered. I think he probably saw some aspects in character traits in her character in himself. That’s such a great theater memory for me and why I actually like the film more than most and can never hate it.

He’s such a big people person and can make friends with just about anyone, which automatically extends to just about anyone in the LGBTQIA+ community. He might be an even bigger feminist than I am, if that’s even possible. :hehe:

Sorry for the tangent. Basically, I just wanted to gush about my brother and how awesome a person he is.
Hm, if those long blonde wigs are what I think they are, could we be getting some Street Fighter Alpha era young Ryu and Ken scenes in this film?

I guess since Akuma is supposed to be in this film, that would make sense. Maybe he just appears in the flashbacks? Hopefully, without any dialogue. And, heavy makeup so that when they make the role bigger they just cast someone else later on.

If they are doing that, maybe this film really might be taking a lot from the games and better than we thought, some questionable casting choices aside.

I’ve been going back and forth on whether those wigs are for Ken or Vega.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we got some Alpha/Assassin’s Fist style flashbacks backs because you can see Gouken below Don Sauvage and Dan.

There’s no way that’s a mistake, wonder who will play him.

lot of the good stuff in comics, movies, games and music i like started because my brother got me into them.

yay for cool brothers!

lot of the little reveals they dropped for the movie so far do seem to point to some street fighter alpha elements.

i think that's great - since the alpha / zero series is where they really fleshed out everyone's backstory and the broader sf lore.

i played the hell out of sf alpha 2, and that may be still my favorite of all the street fighter games to this day.

You and I both my friend.

Everyone praises Alpha 3, but Alpha 2 is the one. I had it for the Sega Saturn and PS1 and wore them both out.

The intro is still my sh**

the best SF intro!

yea man, alpha 3 did way too much.

but alpha 2 was the exact right amount of everything we love about sf.

it had the best presentation of all the sf games imo.
the best selection of characters and super moves, and the music!

the sakura and adon themes are top tier sf themes!

^ glorious! it's an anime song but in video game form!

^ the definition of badass! this is the music that plays when you battle a wild muy thai fighter!

If I had to guess, they’ll probably go with the go-to choice and cast Hiroyuki Sanada, which I wouldn’t hate. They cast Andrew Koji and he was in Bullet Train alongside Sanada-san, so I imagine the director probably at least has him in mind.

He’s actually my younger brother, but with our dynamic, he might as well be my older brother. I definitely tend look up to him a lot.

There are definitely some media I was first introduced to I probably wouldn’t have gotten into or known about if not for my brother. Halo, nu-metal and alternative rock (a lot of Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin), the Fast and Furious films, etc.

I’ll be honest, pretty much all of my Street Fighter knowledge comes from watching a bunch of Maximilian Dood videos of him talking about or playing various fighting games. For example, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you what an “I-frame” was before then. :hehe:

Even though I’ve never really been into fighting games myself, seeing those who are into it and the passion they have for it has given me a lot of appreciation for the fighting game community. It’s always cool to see when those who are fans of a certain fighting game series that hasn’t been acknowledged for years finally have a bone thrown to them or get a win.

For example, the Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite mod that Maximilian Dood is personally involved in with some other people. That kind of dedication just blows me away.

He’s going to be awesome as Zangief, great on Reacher.

Even if his range isn’t the biggest, he definitely had some charisma and presence in the short amount of screen time he had in season three of that show. Cool to see him going on to do bigger and better things.

The music has always been one of the best parts of this series. I hope that trend continues with the film.

I was thinking Sanada as well. They already have an actor from MK 2021 in Mel Jarnson.

Most of my knowledge of Street Fighter comes from playing II, the various anime, Assassin’s Fist, Marvel vs Capcom. Have to play the other games, also plan on checking out the Udon comics.

Also, loved that story about you and your brother. He sounds awesome!

Assassin’s Fist rules! It’s one of the first instances where I went, “Oh, you can totally make a movie or TV show out of this series and not only have it work but also be good”.
Also, loved that story about you and your brother. He sounds awesome!
Just another of how awesome he is, he is one of the first people I came out to, because I knew the kind of person he was, and he was totally accepting. Not only that, he helped arrange a short little meeting with my entire family and his wife there to have some support and make it easier for me to come out to my parents. I was still terrified, but, man, did having other others in my corner help a ton!

Looking back, I’ve realized a lot of my decisions in the past decade or so and more recently I framed in, “What would my brother do?” He’s probably the closest to a real-life example of what Jesus would be I can think of within my entire family. And I’m including all of my relatives on both my mom’s and dad’s sides.

I’m gonna throw out Takehiro Hira as another option for Gouken.
Actually, I think I like this option better. Not only is he younger so he can do much more of the physical stuff (not saying Sanada-san can’t do physical stuff, but he’s not a spring chicken anymore), but he also kind of looks like the actor who played him in Assassin’s Fist. Plus, it would be nice to give some other Japanese actors a chance and not give them all to Hiroyuki Sanada

But, if Hiroyuki Sanada get it, I won’t complain.

i hope she gets to do more as cammy here!

in mk 2021 she just flew around for a few seconds only to get murked by kung lao :weary:

Bro I still laugh to myself about this post years later.

her purpose in the movie was just so kung lao can do his crazy ass fatality.

should of at least have her get in some hits.

shang tsung was talking her up like she one of his top warriors but kung lao flipped onto her back and rode her like a surfboard into his hat. lol
