Action-Adventure Legendary/Paramount/Capcoms’ Street Fighter film

While speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Cody Rhodes talked about his role as Guile in the upcoming Street Fightermovie, saying the physical side of the character came naturally to him.

Rhodes revealed that the film will feature classic moves from the games like the Sonic Boom and Flash Kick, and he was determined to perform as many of his own stunts as possible. Whether it meant being on wires or taking on risky spots, he wanted to be directly involved rather than leaving it all to a stunt double.

“The physicality part of Guile I felt was an easy pickup. Bit of a spoiler of what is gonna be, I hope, a monster movie. Guile does a few things in terms of the video game — Guile’s gonna do the Sonic Boom, the Flash Kick. I was adamant that anything that’s a stunt, I’m gonna do it. If that requires me being on these wires, I wanna do it. If you put another guy here in the corner who I know is gonna do the shot after, I still want a shot at it.”

Rhodes credited JV and his stunt team for putting together the fight sequences, showing how much care went into making them authentic to Street Fighter. According to Rhodes, the director delivered incredible fan service, especially for those who grew up with Street Fighter 2, ensuring iconic characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and the game’s final boss all played key roles in the film.

“His name is JV, his stunt squad who’s putting together fights because it’s Street Fighter. Unbelievable. He had a great team around that to let me get a go at a couple of things that I hope I get to see in the movie. That movie — if you ever played the game, especially Street Fighter 2 — what he’s done as the director is unbelievable. It’s fan service. You got Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, the real final boss in that game, it’s just a wonderful cast.”
Rhodes also praised his fellow cast members, including Noah, Kolina, and Koji, describing them as serious, hardworking actors who gave everything to their roles.

Alongside them, stars like 50 Cent and Roman Reigns are also part of the project. Rhodes hopes fans will appreciate his take on Guile, which he says offers something different than the typical straight-laced military man portrayal.

“I think one thing they did that was awesome in the movie was Noah, Kolina, and Koji — unbelievably great actors who are dead serious and worked every day. Then you got me, 50 Cent, Roman. I hope people enjoy how I approached Guile. It’s different, perhaps, than a straight military man I suppose.”

So basically confirmation that Akuma will be the main villain. Would not be surprised if he kills Bison like in Super SF II Turbo.

Hope they don’t waste Dastmalchian’s Bison.

Really liking what I’m reading about this so far. They really do seem to be fully committed to paying tribute to and re-creating the games in live action as much as possible. Hope it shows onscreen. At the very least, I’m expecting Fast and Furious levels of acting, camp and over-the-top action but applied to a martial arts-style film.

As for Bison, they’ll probably do something like in the games where he “dies“ only to later be revealed to be alive and have survived somehow. :hehe:

Is it weird that I’m looking forward to this more than MK2?

i’m starting to get cautiously optimistic now.

Pros:
Most of the cast (Koji, Centineo, Liang, Dastmalchian, Richters)
Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li as the leads
Being set in the early 90’s is a nice touch to the game.
The costumes and hairstyles all look faithful to the game and anime
I liked Sakurai’s work in Twisted Metal S1

Cons:
Dalan Musson being the writer. Brave New World sucked.
50 Cent, Reigns, Schulz
No Sagat (ties to Ryu and Dan)
RackaRacka not being involved anymore.

i read somewhere that sagat might appear at the end as a cameo but i dont know how true this is, and it was without any source.

Rhodes reference to the 'real final boss' - wasn't that originally Sagat?
Which game did Akuma come into it? Super Street Fighter 2, wasn't it?

I think a total of 8 people are looking forward to MK2

Thought this comment was interesting.

Guile’s supposed to be a no nonsense person, obsessed with revenge against Bison for the death of his friend.

Wonder if that means they’ll change his personality somewhat. Hopefully he won’t be cracking jokes.

Perhaps he'll be more antagonistic to the main 3? But also, isn't Ken his brother-in-law? Hard to know what they'll be doing with the established lore for the movie.

I think that one cameo he had in the recent “The Naked Gun” reboot/sequel is probably indication of what we’re going to get.

sagat was the boss for street fighter 1, but nobody really remembers that game haha.

akuma debuted in super street fighter 2 turbo as the secret boss.

i think rhodes is probably referring to akuma here.

Or the Rock.. haha

wonder if orville going to show his actual face in the movie?

those vega/claw body tats are looking videogame accurate.

He went maskless for Cabaret so he’s certainly open to it when the role calls for it. Either that or we’ll get a broken mask with some partial obscurity.

I hate that I’m still locked in on this movie. But the good casting is just too good for me that it sorta outweighs the other nonsense for now.

i feel the same haha.

the main cast of ryu, ken, chun li is what draws me in. plus dastmalchian as m. bison is a huge get.
i think he'll be great.

i dig orville peck's music, and lot of people saying he's great in cabaret, so i'm interested in what's he's going to cook up for vega.

Stumbled upon a NSFW interview with Andrew Schulz on YouTube, so can’t post it. Most of his story was his interactions with 50 Cent, filming the movie.

He mentioned that he would practically be Ken’s manager and shares most of his scenes with him. What? Sounds like they really changed Dan from what I read about the character. Unless he’s joking.

The interview is Street Fighter film thoughts, James Gunn DMing Us & Importance of Booty.

watched the schulz interview, he's really hyping up the movie.

him being changed to ken's manager really changes the character dynamic from what we know of the lore.

but i can see it maybe working?
maybe dan's a washed up fighter who was never good enough to make it - so now he lives vicariously through ken by being his business manager - booking him fights.

i can see the comedic potential in that. and dan's character is the comedy relief in the sf world.

Saw another interview where he said that he’d be doing ‘a bit of fighting’ in the film.

"a bit of fighting" meaning he will get his ass beat, because dan's the punching bag of the series.

yes, i would pay good $ to watch andrew schulz get beat the eff up.
