Les Miserables: One Thread More!

If they do make another phantom movie i feel they should bring him back to his horror routes. Keep it a musical but bring in other elements from the Novella and the original silent film as well.

I'd say just adapt it from just the novel and not a musical and keep the horror tragedy aspect. That hasn't been done in a long time and it would be a great welcome.

I'd rather see a film version of the musical of Sunset Boulevard.

Still crossing my fingers for In The Heights, which was pretty much canned in favor of Les Mis at Universal. :(

Personally, I'd be game for a live action Beauty and the Beast based on the show.

I love Sunset Blvd. - it was rumored to become a film as far back as 2005 (yes, Hugh was mentioned as Joe Gillis, as he played the role in Australia) with names likes Glenn Close/Barbra Streisand being tossed around but nothing became of it.

Meawhile, this is great - fifteen pages of photos of much of the supporting cast explaining who they are and what roles they have played (Aaron Tveit, Daniel Huddlestone, Bertie Carvel, Fra Fee, Michael Jibson, Frances Ruffelle, Killian Donnelly, Alistair Brammer, etc.). Fauchlevent has played Thenardier!

Saw it for the second time today. I think at this point, two things are certain: that I will be grinning like an idiot when those first two notes hit, and that I will be sobbing like an infant at the ending. God, I love this movie.

Show was totally sold out too. Our audience was pretty lively, very unpleasant reactions to Fantine's teeth extractions and Gavroche sneaking out to collect the ammunition (I got the impression quite a few people hadn't seen the show with that one). Big applause at the end, and of course...the theater sounded like a TB ward by the final scenes with all the sniffling and throat clearing.

Big line waiting to get in to the next show after we left, too.

Can't wait to see it again.

That's another one for the marketing campaign.

** Made my theatre seem like a tuberculosis ward! **

That's EXACTLY my reaction - as soon as those opening notes play, my gosh! And I sobbed at the end this time, not really the first time. I dunno, really didn't do too much the first time, more the second time, perhaps because I could relax more and let the emotions flow and wash over me, and I wasn't looking for things because I knew what was coming. Also noticed more on the second viewing.

I really hope my cousin comes over this weekend so I can see it again.

** The movie turned the theatre into a tuberculosis ward! **

It's right up there with "We've been to funerals for family members and cried less!"

My friend also saw it again this weekend and said it sounded "like everyone forgot their tissues and they were all holding in their snot!" :funny:

I just heard one woman as we were leaving just saying "Poor Eponine!" :csad:

The session I attended was like this big time. I honestly haven't been to a movie with people responding to the material like this before. I don't usually get emotional during films and I was right there with them. The movie is an experience - I was a different person walking out than I was walking in. Cinema is about reaching the audience, having an experience and getting something out of it - and Les Mis provided that in spades.

The first time we saw it, my mom looked over at me when those first two notes hit, she couldn't stop laughing. :funny:

This time I lost it at I Dreamed a Dream, and thought I got away with my mom not noticing (although she brought tissues for both of us), but by the end I was either going to have go for the tissues or sniffle. I went for the latter and my mom turned to me and I just threw my hands in the air.

I didn't do to well during Come To Me, One Day More, Little Fall of Rain, Bring Him Home, Gavroche's end, and the fall of the barricade. And by the ending, forget it, my mom and I were a wreck.

And we totally want to see it again. My sister hasn't seen it yet, so we're going to try and take her.

This is strictly my opinion, I'm not writing it to annoy or convince anyone to agree with me.

I pretty much hated the film. The direction is beyond atrocious, it's tedious and feels like it was 6 hours long and most of the songs were mediocre. Plus the two leads are not good enough singers. Jackman's acting performance is fine but his voice leaves a lot to be desired, it is flat out not strong enough to endure the songs or live singing. Russell Crowe's singing is ear bleedingly awful. I could not believe my ears, especially durring his two big solo performances. I shudder even thinking about it.

The good things about the movie are few. Hathaway is ridiculously brilliant, her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" is one of my favorite things of 2012. Redmayne sings beautifully and Seyfried's voice is nice, it's thin but pleasant enough. I was fine with everyone's singing expect Baron Cohen, Bonham Carter, Jackman and especially Crowe's.
I was pretty meserable but the audience applauded it.

Rating 4/10

Happy New Year everybody. Good wishes and all that.

Sorry you didn't like it, you're perfectly entitled not too. Haha. :yay:

The only thing I want to comment on are Sacha and Helena, only because I'm not sure why you had a problem with their singing. The Thénardier's have never been singing roles. . .

I fought with even putting their names on the list because they do fine with the material that they are given to be fair but no one would claim that they are amazing or anything...I wasn't a huge fan of the characters and Cohen's morphing accent but they probably don't deserve to be on my singing miss list.

I think Jackman has a good voice, but he does strain himself during his big final solo ("Bring Him Home"). I agree Hathaway is brilliant and Redmayne, as well as Samantha Barks (Eponine), are very good.

Sorry you did not care for the movie.

Outside of Bring Him Home, Jackman was pretty flawless.

I can't wait to see it again, because on the first time I was just worrying about so many things - I didn't need to read subtitles, but every once for a while I checked them and they just made me feel sorry for everyone else in the cinema who can't speak English, and I was looking for the close-ups, because there had been so much talk, but in the end I didn't even notice them, because it just felt so natural that we were so close to the actors ... I can't even remember "I dreamed a dream", it seemed I was up to something else at the time (what, possibly?!). Maybe I was so mesmerized I couldn't take it all in ... Anyway, I'm waiting for a more relaxed viewing now ..

As for The Phantom film, I remember it was on TV a year ago and I was eagerly watching it, the first ten minutes or so. It felt just about the most boring film ever made.

We all know what Andrew Lloyd's solo would be:

I had a dream my film would be,
so different from this **** I'm seeing!
So different from Les Miserables!
No Oscars for the dream I dreamed...

I liked Cohen's performance, but I'll agree with you on the accent. He should have gone with either the French accent or the Cockney accent instead of blending the two.

If there was a Tony Awards for the Hype, you'd be a shoo-in.

One of my friends just posted this on Facebook. It's the 2002 Broadway cast (with some special guests) celebrating Les Mis passing A Chorus Line's number of performances on Broadway. It's awesome:

Seriously, the movie should have also ended that way. :awesome:
