Wow. I'm especially happy for the cinematography award. It deserved it.

I tried doing a search for this topic, but I failed because the words in the title are too common. So if this has been made before, I apologize, and a mod should feel free to merge.

But I really want to discuss this film. It comes dangerously close to topping The Dark Knight for my favorite film of the year, and this comes from someone with an established fanbase behind Batman. Even still, this is easily my favorite vampire movie to date.

So please, feel free to discuss this movie. What did you like? What did you dislike? What are your opinions on Eli's gender? Whatever comes to mind.

Great ****ing movie.

And for those who don't know much about this movie, I've included a link to it's IMDb page, and to it's trailer.

Bumping this thread since another thread was started.

I need to remember to order the DVD. I'll be really busy next month.

I seen this at a friends place a while back. It was cool for what it was, but I don't see what was so innovative about it to the vampire genre, other than having the characters be pre-teens. But it resembled a couple different things already done. I even think I seen a Tales from the Darkside or Tales from the Crypt type TV show a while ago that had a very similar plot line.

I am just not a fan of "Near dark" style normal looking Vampires. I like my Monsters to look monstrous. I did like the swimming pool shot at the end.

In the vein of gore, I think the Hellsing anime made the new benchmark. 30 Days of Night was good, but send over Blade and they're all dead Euro trash.

OH GOD. This is how vampires should be portrayed. Exceptional film, they literally do everything right.

This flick doesn't beat us over the head like so many other Vampire movies tend to do. It just gives enough to make your mind go wild. The director is a god-like being. The movie is so reserved and intimate, which is refreshing because its subject matter is crazy twisted, brutal, and even perverse at times.

If you stop and think about why they chose to show Eli's crotch, it's pretty f***ed up. They handled Eli's "gender" delicately, most people don't even realize it's an issue.

I love this movie! It does the mythology of the vampire justice. Sweet child romance tale, with a hell of a violent approach. 5/5
Oh yes, and the scene near the end, at the pool? One of the coolest, slickest moments I've ever seen in a movie.

That's why this film is the Vampire Sleeper Hit of 2008!

The American remake will be retitled as "Let Me In".

How about "Go Get Bent" instead?

I'm ordering the original DVD before Easter.

Sounds hostile. :/

'Not by the hair of little chin chin'.

The title of the film was originally from the song "Let the Right One Slip In". Not it's "Let Me In". Totally missed the mark there.

Just saw it last night. Fantastic film. Just one quick question for people who have seen it or read the book.
Is the old man taking care of Eli really also a vampire ?
At first, I thought he was but then he is shown eating an apple (and his hospital room has no shutters or curtains) and vampires can't eat human food (as shown in the scene where Eli throws up the chocolate that the little boy gives her.) So maybe he is just her handler ?
role that is apparently now assumed by the little boy at the end of the film
Thank you.

I just saw this movie yesterday and loved it. My friend asked me what its about and isaid "It's what i think twilight would be like if it was swedish, and not written for pre teen girls." I havn't (or won't) see twilight, so i have no idea if that description is acurate.

Anywho, I assumed the guy was like a grown up version of Oskar. He fell in love with her when he was a kid, but he got older, and she didn't.

I bought the book today, and its supposed to have more of his back story in it. So, we'll see.

That's what I thought too. Thanks for answering my question:up:.

Similar, but not really. He was a teacher before he met her, with paedophile tendencies. He left his old life to be her guardian.

Thanks.
Do you know why he asks her not to see Oskar on the night he gets caught. And also what's up with Eli's scarred genitalia ?

Thanks.

i believe in the book, it's explained that Eli was actually a castrated boy. The film eludes to this, rather ambiguously. I actually interpreted her line "I'm not a girl" as Eli denying herself the label of "human", rather than assuming Eli was actually a boy.

By the way, the book as released in America is called "Let Me In". Apparently the American publishers thought the title was too long. But i believe the movie-tie in uses the original title.

Interesting. Thank you. I am going to look for the book.
Instead of an american remake, I'd like to see a sequel by the same swedish team (what happens to Oskar and Eli), even though a gem like the original one is probably best left alone.

The studios had corrected the title announcement. It will remain "Let the Right One In".

While not a sequel to Let the Right One In the director and writer of that movie/novel is planning to adapt another one of the writers novels

Handling the Undead?

Just picked the book up.

No, it's not Handling the Undead. This one is called Människohamn in Swedish (I made a thread about it). It hasn't been translated to English yet.
