I hate bandwagon fans. Of anything. Seems more and more people are changing their opinions of music, movies, politics, etc. like the weather, and going with whatever seems to be the majority. Then when something new comes along, not only do they jump all over that, but they disown the old fad and claim to have never liked it. I find a lot of it on message boards in particular. Parrots, repeating whatever everyone else is saying. Bashing movies they haven't seen, singers they've never listened to, actors whose entire body of work is a mystery to them, just because they heard someone else say they didn't like it. It's getting old. Now it's one thing if you check something out because you've heard this or that about it. But to make up your mind based on what other people think? That's them making up your mind for you. Just because a point of view is popular doesn't make it right. Think your own thoughts, be your own person and form your own opinions! Think for yourself.

Let me guess. A movie you like didn't get raving reviews? :oldrazz:

You're asking the average American to think for itself?

BLASPHEMY!! :wow:

And what brought about that rant? Sounds like something triggered it pretty hardcore. Not that I don't agree with it.

No one thing. This was truly an off-shoot of a rant that started in the "Things you hate" thread and blossomed. But while my examples are many, some of my bigger ones would be:
The RELENTLESS Raimi bashing that started with "Spider-Man 3", (where people seemed to think he was a genius up until then) increased with the release of "The Dark Knight" (as its success seemed further proof of his incompetence) and magnified a trillion fold after the reboot was announced. (Because in order to get hyped about Webb without having any clue what he'll do, we must first disavow anything about the previous series.)
The outpouring of love for Michael Jackson that came in the wake of his death, much of it from the very same people who couldn't stand him two weeks earlier.
The opinion Nazis on these boards who attack you every time you say you like something that they like to criticize, who must bash you along with your opinion.
The list goes on and on. You'll see more as (and if) this thread picks up steam.

This reminds me of all the hype for "Inception". Granted, I am excited to see it and I'm hoping it'll be good, but most of the hype for this came from TDK fanboys riding Christopher Nolan's nuts into the sunset.

I'm going to second this tread...and man that type of bandwagon crap is ALL OVER the hype boards.

And I'd like to add:The ones who bash you IF you don't agree or like something. Ie:TDK, Green Lantern movie costume, etc etc

Tell me about it, I've been catching flak for years cuz I like X-Men 3 and Wolverine.

Everytime I say that I loved Riami's Spdiey films, people call me names. Simple as that. It's pathetic.

I've never been a bandwagoneer...but I see many examples of it from others on a daily basis. Some people are just afraid to not be part of the majority or current fad.

That's what annoys me the most-I feel it's driven by some desperate need to be liked.
@SH12-you've known exactly what I'm talking about for a while. You're not allowed to like Spider-Man 3. You're not allowed to like 1 & 2 anymore because of 3. You're not allowed to like Raimi because of the reboot. And you're not allowed to disagree with the idea that a reboot is necessary. Nell, same pretty much goes for X-Men.

Are you kidding? Where would the Catholic Church be if people did that?

I don't know, but it's a chance I'm willing to take.

*stands up tall*

I liked Wolverine. I was okay with Spider-Man 3 but I LOVED the first two films. Even if Webb's reboot is fantastic, it wouldn't erase my love for Raimi's films.

I'm not looking forward to the reboot. I think they'll **** it up.

I'm trying not to form an opinion either way yet.
I also get flak because I don't like things that I'm for some odd reason expected to like. I'm black and I don't listen to rap. I'm from Chicago and I can't stand R. Kelly. And many a black person from Chicago has treated me like I'd committed some act of high treason whenever I say this. I live in Kansas City and I don't give a damn about the Chiefs. So what? Why get offended as if I somehow insulted you?

Well, that is deserved, Nell. :hehe:

I kid. I personally didn't like X3, but didn't think it was nearly as awful as some made it out to be. But it's in style to think it is the worst movie ever made. Wolverine was a decent movie, in my opinion. I think it was bandwagon fever that made people hate it too:
(1) The dreaded FOX made it (as if Fox never makes good movies :whatever:)
(2) It had the misfortune of coming out after TDK. People were comparing the two and were angry because Wolverine wasn't dark, depressing and pretentious. TDK of course, is another example of bandwagon...ing IMO

There really are lots of others. One that's really annoying? People claiming to hate Twilight even though they know nothing about it. Interestingly enough, you get made fun of for liking Twilight but it's acceptable to like Transformers movies. Go figure.

I don't think it's acceptable to like Transformers movies, if that helps. :awesome:

It is and isn't acceptable to like Transformers movies. But I tend to think the people who bash Twilight the most haven't actually seen it. I've seen the first two, and I neither love nor hate them. I sometimes joke about Blade showing up in the next one and killing everybody because that's funny to me. But I don't treat it like it's just the most horrible thing to ever happen to cinema.
