Let's not ride the bandwagon

Logic FTW!

How in the world are we supposed to individually discern who's bandwagoning or not? It's nearly impossible...

Bandwagoning exsts. It can't be stopped, it can't be tracked, it's rarely proven. Deal with it. Worry about your own opinions.
All of the things that you mention are possible. If you notice, no one is saying that they are not. We are complaining about people who we know are bandwagoning for whatever reason.

Obviously there are people who genuinely don't like something. Again, no one said that there weren't. I don't like Twilight myself, but when someone asks me why I can give them a reason. That's because I watched the first movie and slogged through the first book (no easy feat for a woman like me). You can't, however, deny that a lot of people out there do not think for themselves where trends are concerned. They believe that there is something wrong with them if they don't like what is popular. That is how fads work, for example. And THAT is what we are talking about.

Lemme guess... not a fan of the Maimi Heats?

It's fine to like the Miami Heat-as long as you've liked them for more than 2 weeks.

Eh, the only superhero films that rival TDK are Spider-Man 2, Superman: The Movie, and X2. I feel TDK deserves much of the praise it gets, really, much like Spider-Man 2 did when it came out. At this point, Whats more annoying are the people who chirp "its not as good as everyone thinks it is". Anti-Conforming is just as bad as conforming.

X-Men 3 is bad. Wolverine might be worse. If Fox didnt suck as a studio, no one would bash them so much.

A type of bandwagoning I hate comes from the Superman boards, where everyones convinced that since Superman Returns failed, any version of Superman before 1990 sucks.

I like to make up my own mind on things. I could care less if fanboys on a message board think X3 or Spider-man 3 or Fox sucks.

That is exactly what they are trying to do with X-men. I can feel it.

Yeah, they're going to reboot X-Men so that we'll never see Gambit again! It's all a part of my evil plan.:awesome:

I will always have an intense hatred for the Miami Heat due to the way they were gifted a title by the corrupt NBA officials back in 2006. They robbed us of a championship dammit!:cmad:

Just wondering, since this is a bandwagon thread....am I the only poster here who hands down *loves* the star wars prequels? (although I admit AOTC has problems...)

I like the prequel trilogy. Not as much as the OT, but I still think they are good movies. Especially Ep3, but I don't really find much wrong with 1 or 2 either, outside of Jar Jar.

What about those of us who think that TDK "isn't as good", because we legitimately don't think so?

I've seen TDK once, in theatres, and have had absolutely zero desire to ever watch the movie again.

X3 and Wolverine, however? I watch on a semi-regular basis, and start jonesing for them when I haven't seen them in awhile.

When you get old and decrepid like me...you don't ride the bandwagon because you can't climb up on the damn thing anyway......plus you don't have to worry about falling off if it hits a bump in the road....so my advice to everyone....walk along at your own pace, follow your own path, and like what you want to like because you like it...not because others do.

I agree that TDK doesn't have that repeat performance value for me that other films have. But I sure as hell never jones to watch X3 or Wolverine.

In my opinion, the only noteworthy superhero based films worth bragging about are:

Superman
Batman
Blade
X2
Spider-Man 2
Batman Begins
Iron Man
The Dark Knight

Special kudos to non-superhero based original movies; The Incredibles and Kick Ass.

All other superhero movies are, in my opinion of course, worth forgetting.

Now these are some words of wisdom.

Back when I was in high school, back between 1995 and 1999, I used to wear Spider-Man and Batman t-shirts to school. I'd get crap from a bunch of dudes in school. Get called "******" and "Queer". Then you would get the ever so popular "Nerd!". I wore those t-shirts because I loved comics and thought Spider-Man and Batman were the shiznit, and I still do to this day.

Kids in high school today wear a Spider-Man or Batman t-shirt and it's the in thing to do. That's just life. I was ten years too early, I suppose.

C. Lee is giving some great advice. If you like something then go ahead and like it if that's what brings you joy. However, don't do drugs because no matter how popular you think that may be drugs suck. :oldrazz:

lol I hate seeing all the wanna-be thugs who couldn't even identify Tony Starks wearing their Marvel t-shirts.

It's all one big mindscrew. If you choose not to be cool, you're technically trying to be cool with the crowd that thinks it's cool to not be cool.

Since we're talking about bandwagoning, I'd like to question the world's fascination with the book "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and its sequels. I didn't read the book but I saw the film. It was nothing more than a mediocre mystery story. What's the big f'in deal?

I know you know that I know that you know that I know what you're talking about.

The only thing I ever officially bandwagoned on was Harry Potter. I hated it because my church hated it. Then after several years I finally said screw it and started reading the books. I ended up loving them and then watched the movies. Now I'm a huge Potter fan. Since then I opt to read things before judging. This has turned me into a Twilight fan and I'll be reading Divinci Code eventually. I bought it, just need to read it.

I also am a fan of just about every comicbook movie I've watched since X-Men came out save Catwoman and Hulk (Bana). Spider-Man 3 was mediocre for me. I think I've liked everything else. I thought Wolverine was fantastic.

I can't really decide if I"m a bandwagoner when it comes to sports. If it is then it's unintentional. I didn't like football ever but my wife got into it and made me watch it. I watched it and became an instant fan. Chance would have it that it was during the Bangel's best year in a couple decades. Then while I was a baseball fan as a little kid, I stopped caring about it. Now this year it's caught my eye again, and again, it's the best the Reds have done in decades. Again, I didn't know that coming in, but now I'm a fan.

Is it drawing my attention because they were having good years? I guess a good sign is that the Bangels had a bad year after that I stuck with them then, so maybe that's my saving grace.

Lumping people into the "bandwagon fan" category is going into some dark territory. Personally, I think it's irritatingly elitist and it is one of the most obvious examples of fandumb there is. Just because a recent upsurge in public interest over something inderectly causes someone to become a fan of it, that does not make them a "bandwagoner."

For example: I did not become a fan of Avatar until I saw a trailer for The Last Airbender. The movie looked awesome so I decided to check out the show. Now I love the show, even though I thought the movie was a big disappointment. Some people would say I was a "bandwagoner" because I was not a fan of ATLA before it was popular, but to those people I just say ****. I love Avatar, and I don't care about how much earlier you were a fan of it than me. You don't have the right to tell me what I can and can't be a fan of.

The outpouring of love for Michael Jackson that came in the wake of his death, much of it from the very same people who couldn't stand him two weeks earlier.

Good thing I wasn't one of them.

^ OK, that one is a legit example of "bandwagoning." If you love making fun of Michael Jackson don't pretend that you suddenly think he's amazing just because he's dead.
