VO: Bald
@C. Lee with a weathered look on his face. He walks away as his wife and kids go shopping next door, he heads for the cheap bar next to the Old Navy. He sits at the bar looking moody and uninterested. A busty blonde interrupts his afternoon smoke.
Busty Blonde: May I have a light?
C.lee: Without even noticing her bussoms, he just flicks his lighter and she puffs away.
Busty Blonde: Thank you....I'm sorry... my friend down there "she points to her brunette friend sitting on the table across the way", we were wondering...Are you alone?
Voice Over: "Are you alone?" is asking two things. On the surface, it asks whether C.lee can sustain his fidelity, or will he lie and cheat with his consummate expertise, confirming the self-loathing he's mostly held at bay this entire time. . But at a deeper level, the question confirms what we've always known about C.lee, and perhaps fear of ourselves: that there is a space between people that can never be bridged, and that we are always alone. This is incredibly pointed with C.lee because he uses this knowledge and his masterful psychological insight to slide dreams into these empty spaces in the soul in his work as a detective. Perhaps the memory of childhood, where we were connected and were loved is the greatest example of this. C.lee takes the desire for love, the desire to escape loneliness, and unites it with the idea of self loathing.
C.lee takes a deep breathe and gives them both a smiling look....
You only live twice, or so it seems
One life for yourself, and one for your dreams
You drift through the years and life seems tame
Till one dream appears and love is its name
And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone
This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice
And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone
This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice
