Sci-Fi Lilo & Stitch-The Live Action Remake

It's funny because it really looks like a 1:1 adaptation just like HTTYD. I think it simply comes down to this being an adaptation of an older 2D animated movie instead of a more recent 3D animated movie, so there's a little more novelty there seeing these characters in live action. It's also been about a decade or more since Stitch has been in anything significant as far as movies or shows go while it's only been six years since the last How to Train Your Dragon movie came out.

Yeah. I didn’t even think of that. Where the How to Train Your Dragon looks like they just put in live-action actors but kept the same animation, this at least looks more exciting in that we’ve only seen Stitch in traditionally drawn animation.

I'm noticing this movie seems to have a lot more people for it than against it in comparison to How To Train Your Dragon live action. That's interesting.
For my money, they're both obviously cash grabs (and in the case of HTTYD I'd wager theme park promotional tool because the franchise seemed to peter out and you need to remind people what they liked), but one director returning for Dragons and the talk of how little has changed and using the movie as a storyboard kinda just hits another level for me. I think Fleischer-Camp's sensibilities seem like a potentially compelling with the material here. I don't expect it'll be good, but I think because of that factor it might squeak out a few compelling moments in a sea of being just kinda okay.

Y’all are probably gonna kill me for this but…..HTTYD looks way better than this. I’m sorry, I’m just not feeling it here. The glimpse we hear of Jumba especially got me disappointed because it’s clear Zach Galifinakis isn’t even TRYING to do a Russian accent. Cmon, Disney, was David Harbor not available to VA for this?

But no, complain all you want about HTTYD and Snow White, at least those are either trying to be faithful to the original (re; the former) or trying to shake the story up a little (the latter). Effort is at least being made! This? I can tell this was originally for D+ because this is neither. It looks shockingly middle-of-the-road. And where’s Gantu? Are they just having Cobra Bubbles replace him via a bigger role?

Also, Disney needs to stop trying to release stuff on Memorial Day weekend. They’ve never had much success there and I don’t know why they keep trying.
Let's say hypothetically both of these movies end up being straight up copy-paste versions of the original animated movies, no matter which way you slice it How To Train Your Dragon is arguably a better movie than Lilo & Stitch.

But I don't understand your argument about this not looking faithful to the original. It's been a long time since I saw Lilo & Stitch but I recognize plenty of scenes in this trailer alone that were lifted directly from the original.

Personally, I'm more excited for HTTYD. Mainly because I'm pairing the movie with a visit to Epic Universe in June, and it just seems like more of a theatrical experience. L&S still looks fun to me, though. Definitely looking forward to both movies.

Just because they're copy-paste doesn't mean that they'll successfully translate the original movies' qualities.

Watchmen the comic is a masterpiece...

Snyder's Watchmen wasn't copy-paste though, also it's apples and oranges since that was a 12 issue comic whereas both of these are adaptations of ~90 minute movies.

Ummm this isn’t true. Before Top Gun Maverick Disney held the top debut weekend on Memorial Day with Pirates of the Caribbean: AWE 2007. They also occupy the fifth and seventh spots with The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Heck even Solo is in the 10th spot with over 100 mill.

Memorial Day weekend serves them well enough.

Movie looks cute. I’m just there for Stitch as L&S has never been my favorite Disney movie but he is everything.

Yet people said Solo flopped. And L&S is up against the last ride of Ethan Hunt.

Dead Reckoning was, to my understanding, considered a significant box office disappointment. M:I is zero threat to this movie, totally different audiences too.

Because it came out a week before the BarbieHeimer phenomenon happened. Not the case here.

Also, Paramount needs to better market their films.

The movie doesn't look very interesting based from the new trailer.

It looks adorable but yeah, definitely copying many of the iconic scenes in the 2002 original. Even Hannah Waddington’s Grand Councilwoman sounds very close to Zoe Caldwell’s original.

But there’s something about the remake that makes it more appealing than the regurgitations that were TLK 2019 and BATB 2017. Maybe because it’s not a musical?

Also, from what little I saw, why do I get a feeling they had to cut a lot of Jumba and Pleakly's scenes.
Judging from the trailer they're probably in it enough but their human disguises are just going to be them looking like Galifianakis and whatshisname from Aladdin instead of this:

The animated characters look a little off but Lilo looks really cute. I haven’t seen most of these remakes tbh so wasn’t planning on seeing this either but it looks pretty cute and chill. I might just check it out if the reviews are decent.

I'm just curious if Gantu is in it. As I recall he was pretty much the only villain in the original movie so it'd be weird if he's not included.

Based just on the trailer, I'd say they expanded Cobra's role into that of an antagonist and got rid of Gantu.
