“I love ‘Bleach!’ ‘Bleach’ is awesome,” laughed Mazeau. “It’s been a long process getting to write the script. Getting the rights from the Japanese company that owned them was a complicated process. But early on we set down with Tite Kubo the creator and the publisher of the series, and we had a long meeting, making sure we’re respectful to the property. Nobody wants to, well… Let’s just say that if you enjoyed [the live-action] ‘Dragonball Z’ movie, that’s great, but I thought it was a noble effort that ultimately didn’t succeed. That’s what we’re trying to avoid. We want to make sure this movie lives up to what the manga is.”

“I’m currently working on ‘Bleach’ and the idea is to set it in Japan and really be respectful to the source material,” he added. “It’s an amazing story. I’ve been shorthanding it as an ‘action-adventure Sixth Sense,’ but obviously on a bigger canvas than that. So I’m incredibly excited about that. It’s a good one.”

+1 for keeping it in Japan....Dont give us any reason to dock any points off WB lol.

wow i hope they give some great Japanese American actors some love. Can't wait to see to see the first set of trailers. Glad he said he didn't want it to be like that garbage Dragon Ball evolution movie.

I refuse to believe if it actually gets made it would be set in Japan.

I also think an "Action-Adventure" Sixth Sense is a good way to think of it...

Thank you for sharing.

I hope they omit several elements from the manga, cause they work in anime, but hardly fit for live action. $#%^ they should never add to the movie:
  1. Rukia sleeping in Ichigo's closet without him knowing it: A guy who can feel spirits with all his senses doesn't know of her sneaking in and out of his closet? Not good, this one is ok for manga comedy, not going to be fine at all in a live action movie, it will be terrible
  2. You have to see inside your soul to know your spirit sword and wait for him to tell you his name: No, just no, I know a lot of manga fans allow themselves to suspend their disbelief watching an anime or reading a manga, the GA though is another story
  3. Looking inside your spirit: The way Ichigo goes to train with his sword or white form self, or just have a chat
  4. Quick Bankai achievement training: I like the manga, but that concept of having Ichigo fighting the living form of his sword, and to beat him he needs to find the real sword fast from hundreds of scattered swords, and he has to do it in 3 days, or train on it for 10 years? It feels

These are prime examples I can think of right now

Seems good new, i wonder if they'll cast Ishigo as a japanese that paints his hair or go the Karate Kid reboot route by making him an American with his family having moved to Japan. For the first film they should keep it simple, by only having hollows as enemies, gran fisher would be a good final boss.

Quincies, the soul Society arc and Aizen should be left for sequels if the first film is successful enough to guarantee a franchise

I guess Akira has taught them all a valuable lesson about adapting anime...we hope.
