Live-Action DBZ Set to Shoot in Montreal

Wesley Snipes would make a HORRIBLE Piccolo, not to mention he's going to jail so he wouldn't even be approached for this film in the first place. Someone like Michael Clarke Duncan would make a much better Piccolo.

I'm all for Tyler Mane as Broly if he can bulk up about 100 lbs.

Broly will NEVER be in the a live action DBZ film. He isn't even Canon and Duncan is waaaaay too big to play Piccolo. They should go with someone who has a deep voice and powerful presence, but not HULKING in physique. Well muscled is more like Piccolo.

Just a few screens to show that DBZ could actually be done in Live Action. :woot:

Who thinks Paul Levesque/Triple H could pull off base form & SSJ Broly? I think he could, he'd just have to deepen his voice a bit. I think the only way to go for LSSJ Broly is to make him CGI, he's too tall & too muscular to be played by a real human.

Why would Broly ever be in a movie?

This Just in from the Montreal Gazette (http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/arts/story.html?id=5d8321ec-4d55-40bd-ae6c-742949303ea9):

Montreal gets a big-budget boom with three movie shoots
BRENDAN KELLY, The Gazette
Published: Saturday, September 01
The 20th Century Fox studio is expected to shoot three big-budget movies in Montreal over the next year; each has a budget of at least $100 million. The films are the Night at the Museum sequel Another Night, Independence Day director Roland Emmerich's remake of the sci-fi flick Fantastic Voyage and a big-screen adaptation of the Japanese manga Dragonball Z.

Another Night is the follow-up to the family film directed by former Montrealer Shawn Levy, which grossed $250 million at the North American box office last year. Like the first film, the sequel will once again be set at New York's Museum of Natural History and will feature many of the same characters, including the nigh****chman played by Ben Stiller. Robin Williams, who played Theodore Roosevelt, is also expected to be back.

It is not known if Levy will direct Another Night. The screenplay was penned by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, the creators of Reno 911! and the screenwriters behind Balls of Fury.

The ironic twist for Montreal is that the first Night at the Museum was set to shoot here, and local crews had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars building sets at Mel's Cité du Cinéma studios. But the shoot was moved to Vancouver at the last minute to accommodate Stiller's schedule.

Emmerich, who shot the 2004 weather-gone-wacko epic The Day After Tomorrow in Montreal, will be back in town for Fantastic Voyage, an update of the 1966 film that starred Raquel Welch. It is about a scientist who is dying of a blood disorder. A group of his colleagues attempt to save him by being shrunk down, put in a miniature ship and injected into his bloodstream.

Emmerich's own company, Centropolis Entertainment, will be producing in partnership with James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. Emmerich tried to make this film 10 years ago, but it didn't come to fruition.

Dragonball Z is adapted from the manga created by Akira Toriyama; the work was also turned into a Japanese anime series that played all over the world. It tells the story of an alien sent to destroy Earth, who has a change of heart and decides to join the humans in their fight against various aliens and bad guys.

There are no details yet as to when these three shoots will begin, but they are expected to wrap production by next July.

Why would Broly ever be in a movie?

I know what you're thinking: "Broly is too overrated & has horrible origins." I agree about him being overrated but his origins could actually be made better & I think that if he got his own movie, if his background was tweaked A LOT, the movie would be great.

I like Broly.

Well, I think he should have a movie but his origins should be changed slightly. He should hate Vegeta because his father tried to have him & his father assassinated.

And he's still overrated, I had one ass of a friend tell me he was stronger than Omega Shenron.

Uh, did you read the first post? This is what we are discussing.

Yes, I did. I just wanted to print the whole article for those who have trouble getting to the link.

Why would we cast Americans for leading roles in this movie? and Why would we cast people like Jackman or Welling for Goku? Are you guys being for real?

Besides, the best way to introduce Dragonball to mainstream America is to have a mixed cast... and Vegeta as the primary villain for the first movie...

i just wanna see a bad ass supersaiyan transformation

A live action dbz movie leaves me feeling very sceptical in terms of its execution. Should it be made, I'll go see it but trying to conceptualise a live action dbz movie just doesn't feel as though it'll be right.

Oh dear God, no. Just no. Espicially if you cast a bunch of white people as Chinesse inspired characters. And why start out with DBZ? Not only that, but this isn't a superhero show and yet SHH! is reporting this...

This should be done in the same style as FFVII: Advent Children, it's the only way it'll work, considering the wacky hair, characters, and action.

Oh, and let's hope to God they use the original Japanese script writers (it's VERY doubtful Toriyama would be involved) to write the script and use Shunsuke Kikuchi to score the film (with an theme by Hironobu Kageyama)!!!

1. It's Chinese
2. They're Japanese
3. The Saiyan race are based upon Americans, according to Akira Toriyama.
4. How is it not a superhero show? It's based off of a manga, the characters have superpowers and they fight bad guys to keep the world safe.

:huh::huh::huh:

this sounds... promising, to say the least...
but in order for it to work, they have got to get the story and action down perfectly.

if this does make it out of development hell, I'll definitely be watching it, even though I'm not that big of a fan anymore

wow just comes to show people who aernt even the biggest fans of dbz any more want to see it i realy do hope we get to see this happen

Wow. You definitely pwned him. :woot:

All that aside. Yeah, Toriyama based Saiyans on Americans. Because of this I think its okay to cast non asian actors at least where the Saiyans are concerned. It was rumored waaay back that Ray Park was offered the role of Vegeta. Since the movie is gearing back up for production I personally feel he should be given the part again.

Since age 7 Ray has been training in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, also known as Chin Woo Kung Fu. Seven years later he would also start training in wushu and gymnastics. He has since earned his 2nd degree black belt in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. He has competed many times in martial arts competitions and brought home many awards for them including, at the age of 16, Great Britain's Martial Arts National Championship for his group. He competed as part of the British wushu team at the 1993 World Wushu Games in Malaysia.

Not to mention he played DARTH MAUL! Plus I always thought he had a little Vegeta look going.

Can't you just hear him screaming "Kakarot! I am a super elite! I'll kill you!"

Totally! I mean do you think half the adults who went to see Transformers still played with their Optimus Prime figures? Of course not, but they still went out in droves to see giant freaking robots beat the s*** out of each other.

Dragonball Z would totally rule the Box Office. I know I'd go see it at least twice! :woot:

Why are some people saying that Americans shouldn't be in this?
Seriously, does Goku even look Asian to you? They don't look like any race or nationality [with exception to Oolong, Puar, the president, the dragons, Piccolo and other Namekians, Frieza, (etc.) being animals and aliens].

Very True. I think the supporting cast of earthlings should be asian, ya know, Tien, Yamcha, Krillen, etc. Because they're monks and stuff like that. It makes sense for them to be asian. Goku on the other hand fell from space and was merely raised along side them.

True, although, I don't think it'd matter in Tien's case.
He is a cyclops.

;)

who would yall cast as Goku?
