Translating comic book character designs EXACTLY like they are in the comics may not always the best route. There may be instances in live action films and tv shows where character designs are actually an improvement from the comics.

What live action comic book characters do you think fall in that category?

MCU Captain America for sure, especially his TFA, Winter Soldier, AOU, Civil War, and Infinity War designs.

Doctor Strange (I prefer the film's more subtle look as opposed to the flashier comic design)
Cap (AOU and CW suits)
Falcon
Vulture
Pretty much all of the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Yondu (Vol. 2 head fin)
Colossus (the Deadpool version, just for the costume really since his appearance otherwise is basically straight out of the comics)

Batman ('89 through TDKR, more or less, but especially '89/Returns)
Catwoman (Returns)
Supergirl (TV, but also film if only considering old school Kara)
Green Arrow whenever he has sleeves
Thea Queen compared to Mia Dearden
Vixen, especially Vixen #2
ASM Spider-Man
Captain America (The First Avenger)
Blade, at least before he started taking cues from the movies
Wolverine
Rogue
Mystique
Yukio in The Wolverine

Not a complete list.

I preferred Wilson's Nite Owl look in the film Watchmen to his look in the original g/n.

Agree with all the above and would add

In fact I would have to say that almost every MCU adaptiation is superior to the comics -with the exception of Hela, which is a huge achievement as it brings the character's look, especially that unwieldy headdress to life as it appears in the comics.

If not superior then they are equally impressive in comparison to the very best versions of the comics.

People are basically listing everything LOL

Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Vulture

Some that are getting listed I thought were pretty much just faithful recreations of the comics, or those with merely subtle variations on their comic book counterpart: Iron Man, Hela, Doctor Strange. Another example, I thought the biggest change Gal's Wonder Woman has over her comic book counterpart is that she is a real woman and not designed like a 14-year-old boy's pinup fantasy...

Which come to think of it makes me say, yeah I get that one. :)

I'm sorry, but I still think Gal Gadot is miscast for Wonder Woman. I know I'm in the minority at this point but her acting in WW just wasn't very good compared to almost every other actor in the movie and she looks wayy too small and skinny compared to comic Diana who is almost as ripped as Batman and Superman. There are so many better choices for the role that Gadot's casting boggles my mind to this day.

The film may not have gone crazy on Wonder Woman's look, but the skirt is a major improvement on the spangled leotard, and overall it's a lot better. Similarly, all Watchmen did was change the color of Rorschach's clothes, but I like it much better that way.

More that I haven't mentioned:

Silk Spectre II
Nite Owl
Jean Grey (Apocalypse)
Doc Octopus
Electro

Brainiac (Krypton): The design for the character in the series takes everything great from the Johns/Frank run, and improves upon it, giving Brainiac an ancient and frail look, instead of being muscular and massive.

Now there's one I wasn't expecting to see in this thread. I actually wonder if the Electro design would have gone over better if he appeared in either one of the Raimi or MCU Spider-Man movies. He was more inspired by Ultimate Electro, but the original design for the character in general leaves a lot of room for improvement. Whether by default or otherwise, Electro was still probably the best looking villain in the Marc Webb movies.

Yes, unlike GG and the Lizard, Webb didn't make the character look worse. I actually kind of do like the Electro design. It's just the character is so poorly written and directed that it didn't matter.

The Iron Man suit and Strange outfits are very different. To the point, they started making the Iron Man comic suits look like the film ones. Strange wears robes in the MCU, not in the comics. They took the basic idea, and fleshed it out quite a bit. Wonder Woman's outfit is not a basic one piece bikini like the comic counterpart.
