Live-action Dragonball movie

thats how it was in the cartoons:huh:

What are you talking about?
Vegeta was a villain from when he came to Earth until his death (then again when he became Majin Vegeta).
How exactly would you stretch that out in 3 movies while still being faithful?

It wasn't like that in the manga or anime.

Never heard of Hadokens, as I'm not a Street Fighter fan, but thanks for clearing that up!

^Vegeta wouldn't even be a villain the the third movie, if the Ginyu Force is in the 2nd movie.

But you don't seriously expect 3 movies to be only from Saiyan saga to Frieza saga? Goku being dead, going to Snake Way, training with King Kai, then coming back to face Vegeta by the end of the 1st movie, as well as being injured for a good part of the 2nd movie to go all the way to Namek in the 2nd half of the 2nd movie fighting the Ginyu force, then being injured for half of the 3rd movie to come back to fight Frieza?

This is why the movie don't need to and won't be 100% faithfully adapted, IMO.

It's just me, but I just prefer 3 movies revolving around Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu, respectively.

u say vegeta raditz napa and freiza is too much...... yet you want cell majin and frieza?!...lol

the goku being dead part could be changed completely.... a bit ridiculous if u ask me.

its possible to have what i said... all you need is some good writers to adapt as much possible while being able to make a stable trilogy.

Yep.
A good writer(s) and a good director can easily make a film with those three, with Frieza being the hardest due to things needing to be compact, Goku's history, being an origin film, etc. Like I said, I'm not gunning for a 100% faithful adaptation since it's highly unlikely for it to happen.

100% faithful will be always impossible. I at least want 70-80%.

How do you turn these into live action characters without making them look ridiculous?

i will make it easier as possible:
transformers. :woot:

you change it so that it works :cwink:

and if this means that bu is green..........so be it :o
ass long as you make the look of goku and vegetta right. if you make those two right than you won IMO.

fact is that you would have to change stuff. i rather have a transformers movie than no movie.

I wouldn't mind Buu. We'd just need to skip a few of his stages.

I want both Dragonball and DBZ adapted. I say make seven (7 movies, 7 dragonballs, could do some fun stuff with marketing)

1. mix together Pilaf and World Tournament sagas
2. Red Ribbon Army
3. combine Tienshinhan, King Piccolo, and Piccolo Jr. sagas
4. Saiyan
5. Freiza
6. Cell
7. Buu

at first it does look like a lot to put into movies, but if you look at the anime, it is dragged out a lot (it took six episodes for Raditiz to kidnap Gohan). And there's some side story stuff that isn't needed ( I don't think there is a high demand to see the giant rabbit or princess snake.)

Dragon Ball is just too hard to adapt to the big screen, and anyone who says otherwise doesn't know their Dragon Ball mythos.

I disagree! There IS a way to make a movie. Hollywood just hasn't figured out how to do it based on their guidelines.

First, Dragonball AND Dragonball Z have to be adapted. I hate how most people want to skip DB and go straight to DBZ. You just can't do that, people! DB is just as important as DBZ. Secondly, you have to take your time! In Hollywood, they just want trilogies. You can't have a DB Trilogy. You need a series. I'd say somewhere between 7-10 movies. I think seven movies would be fine. And, thats how you do a DB movie.

They should strictly stick to the mangas only.

Exactly. If DB ever makes it to the big screen I want it based on the manga and not the TV series.

In the realm of cinema, good luck wishing for that.
You better pray to God, Buddha, Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu, and Allah.

James Bond = 21 movies and counting
Star Trek = 10+ movies
Harry Potter = Reaching their 7th and final movie
Star Wars = 6 movies

I'm with RoadWarrior on this one, Warhammer. As long as the box office is big they can make as many Dragonball movies as they want.

:csad:

I guess I am just overly negative.

I think it would it be awesome if they made a movie. They'd have to change quite a bit though...:csad:

I'd be fine with it as long as Stephen Chow is directing. Over the top action at it's best. Very kid friendly as well like Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle.

The only issue I think is the hair but even that's simple. Keep it simple but recognizable I say. Goku has a cowlick, Vegeta has short, wet looking, spikey hair, etc. Very common hairstyles among asians really. Simple and realistic but recognizable.

If this movie is ever made I can't wait to see people nitpicking about the hair.

You read my mind. Whenever I watch those two, I always think THIS is how DB should be done. I dunno if he could really get the passion and rage needed for the more intense moments though...

Casting wise, the sidekick from Ong Bak IS Krillin.

i think the the tone should be more serious.

i have a big problem with those japanese directors. they have to campy movies. they are really dumb.

Akira Kurosawa is rolling in his grave.

I also think that the movie would benefit from a western production, but is that wrong? A major eastern product being made over here? I dunno.

I think that a serious tone should be taken as well. I'd get rid of the talking animals, and change the focus on Gohan from toddler hero to a worryingly powerful powder keg waiting to explode. However if you make it more serious, you slightly alienate the key demographic outside people like us; Children.

they should make an american version of DB. :)
