March has big competition so im thinking maybe 300-350mil zone. I think calling it logan might be another bad idea because there are people out there that do not know that this is a wolverine movie.

There may be a few, but for most general audience movie goers, just one shot of Logan with his claws out makes them aware it's a Wolverine movie. Case in point, yesterday at work, an older guy I work with (in his 70's) saw one of the tv spots, and said "Wow, Wolverine has a bad@ss daughter!" This guy has never seen an X-men movie. He's just aware that a dude with claws is Wolverine.

There were similar fears back when The Dark Knight was coming out, that it would confuse the general audience because it didn't have Batman in the title. Really with these movies it's more about visual iconography than titles, and when people see Hugh Jackman with claws they'll know what it is.

Well I thought March would be a good month for a X-Men movie since summer is always so crowded. But hell, in my calendar, I have 1 new movie that I am gonna watch every weekend of March. Power Rangers has a lot of buzz, people can't wait for Beauty and the Beast, while there are also buzz for Kong and Ghost and imagine if those movies turned out to be really good. Thing is there are a lot of movies in March that could easily stole Logan's thunder even if its Hugh Jackman's last time playing Logan. They are not even using that fact for advertising.

Logan will make a profit.it has 127 million budget.no question it can do twice that WW.Quite honestly fox is showing no change from it's franchise plans
from when apocalypse was opening.They are more consent than say WB which changes planes monthly.Fox could have tried to force deadpool or more X-Men
into logan but it sounds like they let mangold do film he wanted.which by the way is what he said in 2013 about the wolverine.

They are, although very subtle. In one of the tv spots, he says to himself, "It's your last ride old man." (or something like that.)

No, he's definitely speaking to himself in the mirror and calling himself an old man.

I'm perhaps underestimating it's potential, but given it's bleak nature and hard R, I think it will do similarly to Fury Road. 300-400.

It would be higher than fury road for sure.
Let me tell the difference.
Logan is coming from an ongoing series and it's audience are not lost as compared to fury road.
Fury road had different max and it was after many delays and all and there seemed not much confidence prior to release.
Moreover Logan is Hugh Jackman's last movie and it surely is enough buzz !!!
So, Higher !!!

I am a bit doubtful of the current long range forecast of an $80 mil opening, and doing just over $200 domestic.

But then again, I doubted the projections for Deadpool as well, and even then, they still undersold it...

I think Lego Batman was in the 80 m forecast range at one point and then fell to an unimpressive/mediocre 50 + m opening. It could go either way but I think people are genuinely excited for this.

People who think the last of us is an original story makes me laugh. The Last of Us itself was inspired by many other different movies.

I highly doubt Mangold even knows what the Last of Us is, probably never owned a ps3 before.

Jim and Hugh haven't even shied away from telling us what inspired them too. Dunno why people keep bringing up Last of Us. Talk more about Little Miss Sunshine or Shane or something.

This film doesn't seem dark or depressing at all. Somber, violent and intensely heartfelt is what I would call it. It's about whether love and family can still exist and endure in the world. Don't think it'll get the same complaints lodged against that the DCEU films do.

Mangold has already mentioned this isn't a film for all ages and I think Fox has adjusted their expectations accordingly.

God, no. The DCEU isn't even that dark or depressing. The characters mope and the visuals are dark, but I don't think that makes the films substantially dark or serious. This film looks like a western, with realistic violence and a tone to match. It's going to attract a different kind of crowd for sure. It's also probably getting good reviews unlike the DCEU films, so that might be another helpful factor. Still, it wont get anywhere near BvS money, but will definitely break even.

I know what the term means. Just wondering what the poster meant in their usage. I just found it weird that that's all it's going to do (ie. make it's money back).

Though rereading it, I suppose they meant it's guaranteed to make that money back and depending on quality, more on top of.
