Logan Logan spoiler thread discussion

Rice is using agriculture to slow the creation of mutants. Logan's conversation with the Munson's hints at that prior to this reveal.

OHHHH DAMN! That's actually pretty rad. I missed that.

Definitely need to see X-23 take out the rest of their organization now.

Black kid (Bobby) has Bedlam's powers. If so, not sure if I like the fact Mangold changed Bedlam and Rictor's background story.

Christopher Bradley (X-Men: Origins) file was showed in the footage from the phone so I guess that boy is his clone.

Fantastic film. A 9, not quite a 10. A few complaints:

-The mooks in this movie seem dumb even by action movie standards. So many opportunities to shoot a flesh wound in the good guys but they stand around like idiots, or let Laura lead them into an obvious trap in Mexico.
-Lots of spotty CGI, especially the obvious greenscreen on Logan being roped up the mountain.
-Logan dies and then...that's it? Movie's over? Just seems too simple. Even a montage of his scenes in the previous movies would have added something.

It's not a gamechanger, but it's a wonderful swan song nonetheless.

Did anyone feel like the opening Marvel title logo seemed to pull from all the X-Men comics? Usually it'd be like for the one that the film is specifically adapting, but I feel like this one pulled from a variety of them as if to tribute Hugh's entire history with the franchise.

It's not revolutionary, so no, not a gamechanger. It is evolutionary. It builds on what came before it in an exciting way. Onwards to Infinity War, hoping that too is an evolutionary film.

Man that was some depressing ****! I heard sniffles in the theater too.

I definitely heard someone blow into a tissue. They came prepared.

This movie was so good. I know you shouldn't say it after 1 viewing, but I think it's definitely up there for me, even higher than The Dark Knight or Avengers. It's gonna come down to your personal preferences I think, but for me there's something really interesting about this world where mutants are broken and defeated, and I guess the first time (?) we really see an old hero on the brink of death where the powers are not what they used to be. It had a great Last of Us-vibe and emotionally I was engaged through all of it.

It's amazing how up and down Fox are quality-wise. You get movies like Deadpool and Logan mixed with Fantastic Four or Wolverine Origins.

Did anyone notice what Charles was saying when Logan carries him to his truck and puts him in the back after being stabbed? I'm sure he says something "You got the sunseeker(boat)" while looking at the stars, he smiles then dies peacefully, as if he had been wanting to die at Sea? A lot people think the sea is tranquil so maybe Charles was one of those people? Plus the fact Charles wouldn't have to be sedated as much if they sailed far enough away from land.

It had me thinking that the boat was Charles idea all along and Logan really wanted to do one last thing for Charles.

Also, I don't find it a coincidence that one of the ways Logan can die is by being submerged in water... I think the bullet was a last resort as he makes it clear in the film he doesn't like using guns.

Maybe I'm looking into it too much but It's what I got off that scene.

I felt the moment where X-23 starts crying daddy was very sad and touching, but the movie just ending after his burial just felt abrupt and hollow to me. I would have like to see X-23 and the other kids meet whoever they were going to meet in Canada.

Wolverine's last ever line - "So, that's what it feels like". :(

Also, did anyone have a weird audience during this movie? Some people were laughing during the emotional bits.

Yes! there were a group of girls sitting next to me who had to ruin it for everyone in the small cinema, where there weren't many people, by giggling at everything. That scene where Logan is smashing up the car after burying Xavier, the girls were laughing and it pissed me off, I didn't even cry at the end because they kept being so obnoxious. If you're gonna go to a cinema, shut the f**k up and let people enjoy the film, otherwise you deserve to wait 5 months for the DVD to be released so you can watch it at home instead of ruining it for others.

Logan hitting the car actually got quite a few laughs when I was watching the movie and I honestly didn't really understand that. I thought it was really sad.

I don't wanna make any complaints because this was a sensational movie.
But I do agree with those who wish there was someone on the other end for the kids. Like who was gonna train them?

I'd like to imagine that Eden actually exists and that Cable is there. There is zero reason to believe that in the context of the movie, but imma do it anyway! :woot:

I'd love for that too. Great tip. But I thought Eden was the treehouse in ND.

Btw the Eden idea birthed from the Xmen comic was a gripping concept for me. The Xmen were a family and that's what these kids were to each other. And X23 considered Logan family by the time he got there. But like you said maybe there are Xmen out there. It would be wonderful to see Cable operate in his world. It's his environment.

I like the ambiguity. Logan guaranteed them a future, but he, nor we, will ever know (ahem, until the inevitable X-23 spinoff) what that future entails. It is uncertain but certainly there. That will have to be enough. The young inherit the earth, the old men die and pass the torch.

It also reminds me of classic westerns, noirs, and gritty crime films where the protagonist dies and that's all they wrote folks. Movies like Bonnie & Clyde, Get Carter, Out of the Past, and The Wild Bunch. There is nothing left to say.

I think I missed the part about he treehouse?

Yeah I think Charles sums it up perfectly when Logan confronts him and tells him Eden isn't real. "It is for Laura."

I think that fits in with DACrowe's post as well. Right now there is a certain ambiguity that allows things go other way. That sense of mystery is something that seems to be missing from most movies for quite a while. I personally really like it. We could stil get answer of course, but sometimes the possibilities in your head can be more exciting than the real thing.

The treehouse was the camp in NOrth Dakota. It was Eden. Unless I'm mistaken.

I actually never really made sense of what was actually in North Dakota. I kinda thought she randomly picked the coordinates that are in the X-Men comics and it just happens to be in North Dakota. Then again I think this movie was quite a bit to take in. I'll try and pay attention to that during my second viewing. :woot:

It is quite a lot to take in. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't random. When the big company decided to off the kids, the nurses joined together in saving the kids and I wanna say each took on a responsibility for an individual child to bring them to Dakota and figure things out from there.

I got the impression the Camp was Eden?

She wanted to go to North Dakota which is where Logan took her?

Going to Canada was never mentioned until Logan actually got there with Laura.
