The nurse teaching her is a good explanation but a throwaway line wouldn't have hurt. It's just very jarring to see a child drive a car suddenly with no explanation (she even parked good at the urgent care, even though there was an obvious chance to show the car parked terribly to make it clear that she drove).

Does anyone else think Rice creating a virus that prevented people from developing mutant genes could be the reason for why Francis was creating mutants in Deadpool?

That'd be an interesting way of tying him back in, but I don't think that was the intention. The Deadpool crew seems more interested in fleshing out connections than Hugh and Jim though, so I could definitely see them tying that plot point in retroactively.

One thing that I think would be cool is to bring back the Hellfire Club as some sorta Spectre-like organization. Shaw is dead, but it'd be kinda interesting if Rice, Pierce and Francis knew each other or something.

Do you not think that fact she thought of him as her father from the very start and the fact Logan didn't really seem to care about more was more impactful than developing a relationship?

Obviously Laura's carer told her that Logan was her father before they had even met. She stares at him when she's driving away from him at the Funeral as that was the first time she sees her Dad?

Logan saying 'So this is what it feels like' just before he dies wouldn't have worked if he had already 'felt' that relationship with Laura.

Exactly.

It's kind of funny when you realize that we've gotten two films from James where Wolverine's healing factor and abilities weren't at their best for most of the film, with the character struggling to find his purpose in life for both films.lol

I basically look at this one as "TW done right". I think Mangold coming in relatively last minute, combined with the studio obviously forcing themselves onto the movie compromised it and watered it down heavily. This time, Mangold and Jackman were allowed to tell that story as they always wanted. They literally improved upon every aspect of the thing.

Except unlike TDKR, they actually had the balls to kill off the main protagonist

Balls is telling the story you want to tell. Which both those movies did.

Most poignant part of the film for me was when Laura called Logan "Daddy" as he was dying. That was a twist for me because it never occurred to me that she was looking at him like that, like her father. My favorite part of the entire movie that and her eulogy.

Didn't like the ending at all. To me the movie built up the fact that he could have a renewed purpose as a father. A reason to live. But they decided to end it on a really somber note. She's alone with a group of kids and maybe some adults idk but to me a more satisfying ending would have been him getting wounded,being saved by Laura, getting more of the green serum to heal and him going off to Eden to almost become like Professor X. Or at the very least a protector for Laura and the kids.

We already had a major death. To me Logan didn't need to die and that would have give a little bit more hope. The ending is to somber.

Well that was thoroughly depressing. It was really good, but the one thing that bothered me is that Xavier killed a good chunk of the xmen. I figured Jean would have been able to fight off his seizure mind ****.

I am so emotionally drained.

This is to Fox's X-Men franchise was The Dark Knight was to WB and DC (and Man of Steel to the DCEU), and what the Winter Soldier was to Marvel. All of these companies, whatever they put out next, have a lot to live up to in the future.

The only thing I would have changed is extend the final fight between Logan and X-24. Have a moment where Logan shanks him and X-24 returns the favor with the tree, and while they're locked in a final "embrace" Laura shoots him.

A minor change that would have kept us on our toes just a bit longer.

Just got back from my second viewing and enjoyed it even more. Picked up on a LOT I missed the first time. One remarkable thing about my viewing experience from yesterday and today is how much my theater audience affected my perception of the film in terms of tone. When I saw it yesterday, it was in a big theater in NY, with a large crowd, and that crowd was laughing and hollering at every bit of humor, curse word and awkward facial expression from Hugh Jackman and Stewart. It made the film feel a lot more comedic.

Tonight's audience was in my hometown in Jersey with a much smaller audience and his audience was mostly silent throughout the film but definitely laughed and chuckled at the appropriate funny parts of the film. With this audience the film FELT a LOT more dark and serious than with yesterday's crowd where it felt like a dark comedy.

Its remarkable how your audience can sometimes warp your perception of a film sometimes, did this happen to anyone else?

People tend to laugh more in groups. I found myself laughing quite a lot (Charles' senility, Laura suddenly ranting at Logan in the car). The film definitely revels in dark humor.

I heard audible crying from my theater in addition to laughter (and gasps during particularly gory fight scenes) so I found my audience well-balanced.

I have a feeling i know where I want this story to go.

Laura will get a chance to save mutantkind when she meets Cable, who will be introduced in Deadpool 2. He will take her and the other new mutants back in time with him and help stop the mutant genocide once again.

I still believe things can work out. I still have hope.

I was annoyed by the guy sitting in front of me sitting tall during tense scenes and blocking 1/3 of my screen.

The biggest reaction in my theater was when there was no post credit scene after waiting for the credit to roll for 5 minutes.

There were two old ladies behind me. Almost anytime there was a bit of violence (so y'know, a lot) one of them would go "Ooooh!". The as the credits were rolling--

"Why did she turn the cross into an X?"
"X-Men."
"Ooooh!"

I could be wrong, but that same guy who was fishing was in the hospital reading a paper. He was wearing the same hat.

Maybe I just misunderstood something. I need to see this movie again.

That's what I thought, a good Samaritan from the friendly small town.

But I do agree with those who wish there was someone on the other end for the kids. Like who was gonna train them?

Yeah the car was halfway on the curb, Logan even looks at funny before getting in. The movie is a lot to take in in just one viewing though. I probably missed stuff you caught and vice Versa.

It's hard to "love" this film, as watching a dying Logan was truly painful, but it is a great film. Any film that pays homage to "Shane" is alright by me.
One thought for me, and admittedly somewhat trivial; given that this film is set in 2029 the not so distant future, the cars seem to be locked in the not so distant past.

Laying in bed last night, still thinking about this movie, something occurred to me that kinda blew my mind...

In The Wolverine, Yukio predicts Logan's death. She says:

"I see you on your back. There's blood everywhere. You're holding your own heart in your hand..."

She wasn't necessarily wrong.

Logan died on his back. Covered in blood. Holding the only piece of his heart that he had left... Laura.

Now, granted, Yukio was talking literally about his actual non-beating heart, but still. I thought it was a pretty cool connection.

It WAS depressing. Not enough hope. I loved the acting and the relationships but I think it's a little to bleak. He died a hero however......he DID not need to die and I think it would have still had the same impact.
